Book excerpt: In the early stages of planning the Third International Conference in System Science in Health Care, the steering committee members, most of whom had participated in the first conference in Paris (1976) and the second in Montreal (1980), made some basic decisions about organization of subject matter. The earlier meetings had been very successful in bringing together specialists from the health professions and the traditional sciences. In addition to physicians and nurses, these were representatives of the disciplines of the behavioral sciences, system theory, economics, engineering, and the emergency fields of management science and informatics -all concerned with the development of health resources in a broad system context. The reported research and experience of the many disciplines represented had dealt with one or more of three concerns: 1) a major health problem, such as cardiovascular disease, or an important popUlation at risk, such as the elderly or children or workers; 2) some generic aspect of organization and decision making, including trial and evaluation ofinnovative health strategies; and 3) the methodology of research and analysis in system of health service. The challenge to the conference organizers lay in the eliciting and arranging of experiences in such a way that the health services could be seen as purposeful,living, evolving systems.

Book excerpt: Introduction : Il est prouvé que pour garantir des résultats en soins de santé et pour optimiser les ressources d'un système prestataire de services de santé, il est essentiel d'améliorer la qualité des soins. Pour ce faire, il faut en faire l'évaluation (Health Council of Canada, 2013). L'évaluation par les patients est une dimension essentielle pour une évaluation adéquate de la qualité des soins (Vilcot et Leclet, 2006). Objectifs : L'objectif principal du projet est de développer un outil d'évaluation de la qualité des soins infirmiers par le patient dans le suivi de maladies chroniques en soins de première ligne. Méthode : Plusieurs lignes directrices portant sur les maladies chroniques ont été consultées pour rédiger les items constituant l'outil. Des entrevues cognitives ont été menées jusqu'à saturation des données avec des patients et des experts du domaine afin d'évaluer la validité de contenu. La corrélation item-total a été calculée avec l'analyse de réduction des items. La cohérence interne a été évaluée à l'aide du alpha de Cronbach. L'extraction des facteurs a été faite afin de déterminer le nombre optimal de facteurs nécessaires pour mesurer adéquatement le construit. La validité de critère a été faite à l'aide de la validité concomitante. Résultats : Globalement, l'EAPI-VP (Échelle d'application de la pratique infirmière-version patient) a une valeur alpha de Cronbach de 0,912, ce qui confirme une cohérence interne adéquate (Emerson, 2019).
