Book O negro no futebol brasileiro

Download or read book O negro no futebol brasileiro written by Mário Rodrigues and published by Mauad Editora Ltda. This book was released on 2003 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book O Negro no Futebol Brasileiro

Download or read book O Negro no Futebol Brasileiro written by Mario Filho and published by Mauad Editora Ltda. This book was released on 2010-06-23 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book The Country of Football

Download or read book The Country of Football written by Paulo Fontes and published by Hurst. This book was released on 2014-06-15 with total page 293 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Brazil has done much to shape football/soccer, but how has soccer shaped Brazil? Despite the political and social importance of the beautiful game to the country, the subject has hitherto received little attention. This book presents groundbreaking work by historians and researchers from Brazil, the United States, Britain and France, who examine the political significance, in the broadest sense, of the sport in which Brazil has long been a world leader. The authors consider questions such as the relationship between soccer, the workplace and working class culture; the formation of Brazilian national identity; race relations; political and social movements; and the impact of the sport on social mobility. Contributions to the book range in time from the late nineteenth century, when the British first introduced the sport to Brazil, to the present day, as the 'country of soccer' prepares itself to host the 2014 World Cup, painting a vivid picture of the many ways in which soccer exists and functions in Brazil, both on and off the pitch.

Book Football and Social Sciences in Brazil

Download or read book Football and Social Sciences in Brazil written by Sérgio Settani Giglio and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-11-02 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a kaleidoscopic view of the multidisciplinary field of research developed within Brazilian social sciences to study football as a major cultural and social phenomenon in the country. As a contributed volume, it brings together chapters authored by researchers from different disciplines, such as sociology, anthropology, political science, history, geography, economy, communication studies and physical education, who contributed to make Brazilian football a multifaceted object of study for the human and social sciences. The book is divided in four parts. The first two parts are dedicated to the "classic" areas, in which the best known research lines are concentrated: part one focuses on politics and history, while part two is dedicated to sociology and anthropology. The third part brings together studies from other four different areas: communication studies, geography, economy and physical education. The fourth part is organized not by disciplines, but around transversal themes, such as gender, violence, fans and racism. The varied approaches and different interpretations brought together in this book seek to provide an overview of the fertile academic debate that has stimulated the renewal of scientific research on football in Brazil, which makes Football and Social Sciences in Brazil a useful resource for researchers from different disciplines within the human and social sciences interested in the study of football as major cultural and social phenomenon all over the world.

Book Soccer in Brazil

Download or read book Soccer in Brazil written by Martin Curi and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-14 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No other national stereotype in the world is so closely tied with a sport, as Brazil is with football. The five-time world champions have constructed their national identity around this sport. Perhaps for this reason it’s no wonder that there are many Brazilian social scientists doing research on this theme. The first part of this volume is dedicated to the history of Brazilian football. The main question is how did football become so popular in the country? It also looks at other interesting historical developments in Brazilian football history up to this day. The second part considers current phenomena, especially the place of Brazilian football in a globalized world: What are the consequences of an extremely commercialized and mediatized sport on a developing country? How does Brazil figure as the main supplying country of football talents? How does the population feel about seeing their players in Europe instead of their own country? Finally, the book will conclude with a critique of a documentary film about a Brazilian national team game in Haiti which was part of the Brazilian army’s blue helmet mission. The game was used as a political instrument, revealing the importance of this sport in attaining a political position for Brazil in the world. This book was previously published as a special issue of Soccer and Society.

Download or read book F tbol written by Ilan Stavans and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2011-09-22 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This insightful compilation offers interdisciplinary views on soccer among Latinos. In contrast with its relative lack of popularity in the United States, elsewhere, professional soccer is a hugely popular sport whose key players rival movie stars in popularity and influence. For many Latinos, especially those who emigrated to the United States, it is the game of choice. While Latino players are still not a major force in U.S. soccer, Latino fans certainly are, comprising, by one estimate, 45 percent of Major League Soccer attendees. Seeking to explain the allure and the influence of soccer among Latinos, particularly those living in the United States, Fútbol offers a collection of essays that treat the game from a wide variety of perspectives. These essays—including reminiscences and impressionistic assessments—touch on topics as diverse as politics, religion, sociology, marketing, athletics, and gender relations as they attempt to contextualize soccer in the Latino community.

Book Futebol Nation

Download or read book Futebol Nation written by David Goldblatt and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2014-05-01 with total page 265 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Futebol Nation by David Goldblatt - a thriling history of Brazil through its sporting passion From the genius of Pelé to corruption and civil unrest, no nation has so closely aligned its national identity with playing and watching football as Brazil. Football is regarded as a thing of joy, its yellow shirts a delightful amalgam of sport and art, entwined with its cultures of music and religion. This is true, but there is another side to the story too. The corruption of Brazil's football authorities is characteristic of its society as a whole; some of its biggest tournaments have recently been played amidst the largest protests Brazil has ever seen. From the acclaimed author of the classic football history The Ball is Round, this book is the whole story: the players, the fans, the corruption, the passion. It will be enjoyed by readers of I am the Secret Footballer, The Numbers Game, Why England Lose and fans of football around the world. David Goldblatt was born in London in 1965 and is a supporter of Tottenham Hotspurs and Bristol Rovers. He teaches sociology at Bristol University, reviews sports books for the TLS, and for some years wrote the Sporting Life column in Prospect magazine. Book The Human Tradition in Modern Brazil

Download or read book The Human Tradition in Modern Brazil written by Peter M. Beattie and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2004 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Human Tradition in Modern Brazil makes the last two centuries of Brazilian history come alive through the stories of mostly non-elite individuals. The pieces in this lively collection address how people experienced historical continuities and changes by exploring how they related to the rise of Brazilian national identity and the emergence of a national state. By including a broad array of historical actors from different regions, ethnicities, occupations, races, genders, and eras, The Human Tradition in Modern Brazil brings a human dimension to major economic, political, cultural, and social transitions. Because these perspectives do not always fit with the generalizations made about the predominant attitudes, values, and beliefs of different groups, they bring a welcome complexity to the understanding of Brazilian society and history.
