Book Kant s Philosophy of the Unconscious

Download or read book Kant s Philosophy of the Unconscious written by Piero Giordanetti and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The unconscious raises relevant problems in the theory of knowledge as regards non-conceptual contents and obscure representations. In the philosophy of mind, it bears on the topic of the unity of consciousness and the notion of the transcendental Self. It is a key-topic of logic with respect to the distinction between determinate-indeterminate judgments and prejudices, and in aesthetics it appears in connection with the problems of reflective judgments and of the genius. Finally, it is a relevant issue also in moral philosophy in defining the irrational aspects of the human being. The purpose of the present volume is to fill a substantial gap in Kant research while offering a comprehensive survey of the topic in different areas of research, such as history of philosophy, philosophy of mind, aesthetics, moral philosophy, and anthropology.

Download or read book At the Intersection of the Worlds written by Peter Weiner and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2016-08-25 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When things in our life take a turn for the worse, and our circumstances, which were far from perfect to begin with, suddenly deteriorate, most of us are inclined to lose faith in anybody or anything. This probably happens because many are convinced that the External world around us, filled with people and events, where everything is tangible, is far more real than our Inner world, the world of our thoughts, ideas, emotions, and everything else that takes place in our Soul. How true is it? Could it be...? Perhaps, it is we who don't know, or fail to understand something, and this explains our attitudes. This book offers a thoughtful, reflective analysis of the wealth of knowledge accumulated by previous generations and passed on to us, analyzing and comparing it with the results and conclusions of abundant contemporary research in different parts of the globe. It gives a logically substantiated conception of a Universe with a fundamentally different structure and reveals the true purpose of our existence within it. The episodes, circumstances and turnarounds in life described here are very real, and they are organically interspersed with the book's narrative. This invites readers to engage, identify with, evaluate and compare, which contributes to a transformative sense of awareness about the essence and meaning of life, fulfillment and personal destiny.

Book Kant and Non Conceptual Content

Download or read book Kant and Non Conceptual Content written by Dietmar H. Heidemann and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-06-11 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conceptualism is the view that cognizers can have mental representations of the world only if they possess the adequate concepts by means of which they can specify what they represent. By contrast, non-conceptualism is the view that mental representations of the world do not necessarily presuppose concepts by means of which the content of these representations can be specified, thus cognizers can have mental representations of the world that are non-conceptual. Consequently, if conceptualism is true then non-conceptualism must be false, and vice versa. This incompatibility makes the current debate over conceptualism and non-conceptualism a fundamental controversy since the range of conceptual capacities that cognizers have certainly has an impact on their mental representations of the world, on how sense perception is structured, and how external world beliefs are justified. Conceptualists and non-conceptualists alike refer to Kant as the major authoritative reference point from which they start and develop their arguments. The appeal to Kant attempts to pave the way for a robust answer to the question of whether or not there is non-conceptual content. Since the incompatibility of the conceptualist and non-conceptualist readings of Kant indicate a paradigm case, hopes have risen that the answer to the question of whether Kant is a conceptualist or a non-conceptualist might settle the contemporary controversy across the board. This volume searches for that answer. This book is based on a special issue of the International Journal of Philosophical Studies.

Book Thinking the Unconscious

  • Publisher : Cambridge University Press

  • ISBN : 1139489674
  • Pages : 341 pages

Download or read book Thinking the Unconscious written by Angus Nicholls and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-06-24 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since Freud's earliest psychoanalytic theorization around the beginning of the twentieth century, the concept of the unconscious has exerted an enormous influence upon psychoanalysis and psychology, and literary, critical and social theory. Yet, prior to Freud, the concept of the unconscious already possessed a complex genealogy in nineteenth-century German philosophy and literature, beginning with the aftermath of Kant's critical philosophy and the origins of German idealism, and extending into the discourses of romanticism and beyond. Despite the many key thinkers who contributed to the Germanic discourses on the unconscious, the English-speaking world remains comparatively unaware of this heritage and its influence upon the origins of psychoanalysis. Bringing together a collection of experts in the fields of German Studies, Continental Philosophy, the History and Philosophy of Science, and the History of Psychoanalysis, this volume examines the various theorizations, representations, and transformations undergone by the concept of the unconscious in nineteenth-century German thought.

Book Call Light

Download or read book Call Light written by J. M. Frollo and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2021-05-13 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Call Light By: J.M. Frollo “What is the craziest thing that’s happened to you while working on an airplane?” is, hands down, the most popular question asked of flight attendants. Strange and entertaining scenarios are to be expected while millions of people fly through the sky or sit around waiting in airports each day, but the stories in Call Light bring to mind a couple of burning questions: What in the world happens to people when they pass through the sliding glass doors of an airport, and what is it about air travel that inhibits common sense, common courtesies, and basic problem-solving skills? We may never know why some passengers behave so outlandishly, but when they do, it’s only natural to laugh. From Mr. Fabulous’ awkward advances to Mr. Gray’s lavatory misadventures to the secondhand sandwich fiasco for The Couple in Row Five, Call Light is full of lighthearted and playful tales of life aboard an airliner. Told with wit and humility, these stories from an observant flight attendant feature a variety of lively personalities in colorful scenarios that share a positive message for any traveler: Be on the lookout for humor, and always choose kindness.

Download or read book PARIAH written by Bob Fingerman and published by Virus. This book was released on 2021-10-26 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a modest Manhattan walk-up, a group of survivors are on their last legs. As the end seems nigh, a teenage girl is spotted on the avenue, not only alive but repelling the undead like Moses parting the Red Sea. When she comes to their aid questions of who, what and why she’s immune to attack arise. Almost like a play, this single location-centric story features a strong cast of archetypal, yet fully fleshed-out, distinct, characters. The artist; the young widow; the elderly couple; the bros living a new normal, for one of whom it’s also finally living his truth; the country boy who’s turned his back on his faith only to have it return in earnest. And the mysterious stranger that arrives as their savior, only to confound them, even as she complies with their ever-increasing impositions. PARIAH sets the classic zombie tropes on their ear as the element of immunity to attack is introduced into the mix. Very contemporary, but also taking cues from the classic New York cinema of Martin Scorcese, Neil Simon, Woody Allen and other gritty cinema and literature, PARIAH thrusts the reader into a truly dire survivors’ tale, capturing the desperation and resolve of its disparate cast.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some people keep diaries that merely record the forgettable tidbits of their daily life. Dorothy Rose Nolte Hughes had one of those. But after her passing, her cherished granddaughter Cherry found another one that proved to be the tell-it-like-it-really-is version. It revealed family secrets that may have otherwise been buried forever; the romantic conspiracies of two generations. Granny's spunk shined radiantly through each page. She'd turned some colorful phrases; earthy to be sure, and perhaps for some, even blushworthy. For Cherry and husband Gene, who with their six Doxie kids had spent their every day with Granny during her physically- challenging last months, this newfound treasure was delightfully funny. And deeply endearing. They discovered the true power of fairy tales; like those that had transported her to happier places and happier times during her somber last days. But the fairy tale that was Cherry's last gift to her grandmother, was the best one yet.
