Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We have studied 24 cases of secondarily leukemic (stage V) lymphosarcoma (LS), 31 cases of "d'emblee" leukemic LS, and ten cases of lymphoid leukemic neoplasias transitional between "d'emblee" leukemic LS and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (eLL). These cases only concern the common types ofthe WHO classification ofLS, i.e., the prolymphocytic, the lymphoblastic, and the immunoblastic. Some cases have also been classified by cell surface markers. The secondarily leukemic conversion occurred in 40% of the lymphoblastic types, in 14% of the prolymphocytic types, and in 17% of the immunoblastic types. It never occurred at stage I but could occur after any other stage. The mediastinal involvement was observed in three types, but most often in the lymphoblastic type. The prognosis after an acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL) treatment comprising active immunotherapy following chemo(radio)therapy is better for the leukemic prolymphocytic and lymphoblastic LS than for the immunoblastic type. Two patients (one of the lymphoblastic type) are in complete remission after 8 and 5 years, respectively. We have described ten cases of "d'emblee" leukemic LS with either large lymphoid or extra lymphoid masses, bone marrow leukemic cell involvement, and LS aspects of neoplastic cells. Mediastinal, abdominal, or other tumor masses are frequent.

Book Practical Lymph Node and Bone Marrow Pathology

Download or read book Practical Lymph Node and Bone Marrow Pathology written by Endi Wang and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-03-28 with total page 750 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a step-by-step and practically applicable approach for the accurate and clinically relevant diagnosis of lymph node (LN) and bone marrow (BM) biopsies. Clinicians expect pathological guidance not only with accurate diagnosis, but also about disease progression, minimal residual disease, disease susceptibility to a particular therapy, effects of prior therapy on prognosis and subsequent therapy etc. This book provides brief but to the point guidance about the prognostic and therapeutic implications of key ancillary studies so that the pathologist is comfortable to answer clinician’s questions over the entire arc of manifestations and management of the disease. The text follows the WHO (2016) classification in essence but the material is organized in a fashion most useful to a practicing surgical pathologist. This is achieved by focusing on the morphological findings as the starting point. Using this morphological “backbone” and several frequently asked questions (FAQs) the reader is guided to a rational list of differential diagnoses leading to a definitive diagnosis. The contents of each chapter are carefully selected so that the practically important and directly applicable information is available in an easy-to-find and easy-to-grasp format. Practical Lymph Node and Bone Marrow Pathology serves as a practical introduction and handbook for pathology trainees and hematopathology fellows and will remain a useful reference to practicing pathologists when they are signing out lymph nodes or bone marrow specimens.

Download or read book Pathology and Genetics of Tumours of Haematopoietic and Lymphoid Tissues written by World Health Organization and published by IARC. This book was released on 2001 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This was a collaborative project of the European Association for Haematolpathology and the Society for Haematopathology and others. The WHO classification is based on the principles defined in the Revised European-American Classification of Lymphoid Neoplasms (REAL) classification. Over 50 pathologists from around the world were involved in the project and proponents of all major lymphoma and leukaemia classifications have agreed to accept the WHO as the standard classification of haematological malignancies. So this classification represents the first true world wide concensus of haematologic malignancies. Colour photographs, magnetic resonance and ultrasound images and CT scans are included.

Book Lymph Node Pathology for Clinicians

Download or read book Lymph Node Pathology for Clinicians written by Michel R. Nasr and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-23 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lymph node pathology is a complex and rapidly evolving field that requires integration of morphologic findings with a number of ancillary studies, as well as clinical information, to diagnose neoplastic and non-neoplastic hematopoietic disorders. Lymphomas are currently classified according to the 2016 Revision of the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification, which emphasizes, and for some diagnoses mandates, the integration of clinical information in diagnostic decision making. Successful collaboration and teamwork between pathology and clinical specialties (especially hematology/oncology) are paramount for excellent patient care. In addition to diagnosis, pathology plays a significant role in lymphoma prognostication and therefore contributes to patient’s management and follow-up. Lymph Node Pathology for Clinicians provides a concise overview of different entities in lymph node pathology with the primary audience being clinicians. Not all entities are covered, but, rather, the most common and/or clinically most relevant ones were included. This text is intended as a quick reference for a clinician to become familiar with pathologic aspects of lymphomas and the thought process of a pathologist. Particular consideration is given to relevant diagnostic and prognostic ancillary studies. Organized with an interdisciplinary approach for effective management of lymph node disorders, this text aims to educate our clinical colleagues on the most important aspects of lymph node pathology.
