This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This comprehensive treatise on the reticuloendothelial system is a project jointly shared by individual members of the Reticuloendothelial (RE) Society and bio medical scientists in general who are interested in the intricate system of cells and molecular moieties derived from those cells which constitute the RES. It may now be more fashionable in some quarters to consider these cells as part of what is called the mononuclear phagocytic system or the lymphoreticular sys tem. Nevertheless, because of historical developments and current interest in the subject by investigators from many diverse areas, it seems advantageous to present in one comprehensive treatise current information and knowledge con cerning basic aspects of the RES, such as morphology, biochemistry, phylogeny and ontogeny, physiology, and pharmacology as well as clinical areas including immunopathology, cancer, infectious diseases, allergy, and hypersensitivity. It is anticipated that by presenting information concerning these apparently het erogeneous topics under the unifying umbrella of the RES attention will be focused on the similarities as well as interactions among the cell types constitut ing the RES from the viewpoint of various disciplines. The treatise editors and their editorial board, consisting predominantly of the editors of individual vol umes, are extremely grateful for the enthusiastic cooperation and enormous task undertaken by members of the biomedical community in general and especially by members of the American as well as European and Japanese Reticuloen dothelial Societies.

Book Antigens Lymphoid Cells and the Immune Response

Download or read book Antigens Lymphoid Cells and the Immune Response written by G. J. V. Nossal and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antigens, Lymphoid Cells, and the Immune Response deals with the nature and properties of antigens and with the functional anatomy and cell physiology of the mammalian lymphoid system which responds to antigens. The book discusses the central questions in cellular immunology; the antigens and the afferent limb of the immune response; and antibodies and the afferent limb of the immune response. The text also describes the organ distribution of antigens; the functional anatomy of the lymphoid system; and the behavior patterns of lymphoid cells. The microscopic and electron microscopic distribution of antigen in lymphoid organs; the interaction of antigens with cells of the reticuloendothelial system; and the interaction of antigen with lymphoid cells are also considered. The book further tackles the role of antigen in immunological tolerance; antibody production and tolerance dissociated; and antigen and lymphoid cells.

Book Lymphatics and Lymph Circulation

Download or read book Lymphatics and Lymph Circulation written by István Rusznyák and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-03 with total page 973 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lymphatics and Lymph Circulation: Physiology and Pathology is a comprehensive account of the physiology and pathology of lymphatics and lymph circulation, with emphasis on the question of lymph flow as well as the problems of capillary filtration and diffusion in the connective tissue. These intricate processes are explained from a uniform point of view. Comprised of 27 chapters, this book begins with a discussion on the origin and architecture of the lymphatic system, paying particular attention to the discovery of lymphatics and lymph circulation; the phylogenesis and ontogenesis of lymphatics; and general and special anatomy of the lymphatic system. The second part explores the general physiology and pathology of the lymphatic system and includes chapters dealing with the role of the connective tissue in lymph formation; absorption into lymph capillaries; filtration and absorption through serous membranes; and lymph flow and composition. The remaining chapters consider the central nervous system and other organs such as the heart, lung, liver, kidney, and pancreas. This monograph will be useful for students, practitioners, and researchers in physiology and pathology.

Download or read book Interventional Radiology written by Bradley B. Pua and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2018-12-03 with total page 737 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 2012, the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) approved Interventional Radiology (IR) as its own specialty. Born out of the field of Diagnostic Radiology, IR requires a more clinical focus on initial consultation and post-procedural management, rather than its previous role of performing image-guided procedures. Interventional Radiology: Fundamentals of Clinical Practice is written with this new focus in mind to help readers incorporate their procedural knowledge into a holistic approach of patient management. Chapters explore topics across a broad spectrum of IR, with a focus on etiology and pathophysiology of disease, followed by discussions on intra-procedural and post-procedural management. Numerous tables and boxes, and over 420 total figures complement chapter content. This comprehensive text is a must-have text for IR residents and reference for all practicing interventional radiologists.
