Download or read book The Lupin Genome written by Karam B. Singh and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book on lupin genomics primarily focuses on the narrow-leafed lupin (NLL), and details the genomic resources that have been developed and how they are currently being used to help advance both fundamental and applied research on NLL in areas ranging from its domestication to plant–microbe interactions and syntenic relationships between NLL and other legume crops. It also reports on genomic efforts being pursued with regard to other lupin crops. Lupins are important ecological ‘engineers’: they can colonise and thrive in low-nutrient soils due to their ability to fix atmospheric nitrogen in symbiosis with bacteria and efficiently take up phosphorous. Recently, lupins have attracted considerable interest, not only because of their value for sustainable farming as a break crop, but also as a potential ‘super food’ for fighting major health issues in connection with diabetes and obesity. Narrow-leafed lupin is the main grain legume crop, grown primarily in Australia, and was therefore selected for the development of a reference lupin genome and associated genomic resources. Its genome has recently been sequenced with a focus on the gene-rich space, which has advanced the development of new breeding tools for the improvement of NLL and related lupin crops.

Book Lupin Development Guide

Download or read book Lupin Development Guide written by Miles Dracup and published by ISBS. This book was released on 1996 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A wealth of information on lupins as a crop plant is brought together in this attractive and accessible guide to aid growers, agronomists, researchers and students. Lupin Development Guide describes fully the development of Narrow-leafed Lupin (Lupinus angustifolius) and has much information on Albus Lupin (L. albus) and Yellow Lupin (L. luteus). The guide details thoroughly each of the developmental phases in the life cycle and shows how to identify and assess them. Technical terms are kept to a minimum and the text is supported throughout by clear illustrations and photographs.

Book Sustainable Swine Nutrition

Download or read book Sustainable Swine Nutrition written by Lee I. Chiba and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2022-10-26 with total page 757 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Sustainable Swine Nutrition As climate change continues to have a significant impact on the modern world, it is crucial to find alternative sources of energy and nutrients for swine production. The development of optimal feeding revolves around a multitude of considerations—genetic variations in the pig, variability, availability, and stability of nutrients in feed ingredients, interactions among nutrients and non-nutritive factors, voluntary feed intake, physical (& social) environment of pigs, and more. Establishing the ideal network of factors will only grow in importance as humans assess the methods for our own food networks. Sustainable Swine Nutrition is a comprehensive book on swine nutrition, covering some fundamental aspects of nutrition—namely digestive physiology, water, protein or amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, energy metabolism, vitamins, minerals, and nutrition and immunology. Providing the most up-to-date information on each of these areas, a major emphasis of this second edition is on recent developments and current advances in the field, with a focus on pertinent issues linked with energy and nutrients. In doing so, the book highlights topics and issues that can contribute to the ultimate goal of successful and sustainable swine production. Sustainable Swine Nutrition readers will also find: Environmentally friendly, optimal feeding strategies for successful and sustainable swine production Recent developments, such as alternative feedstuffs, feed additives, and bioavailability Expanded treatment and new chapters on swine physiology, energy and protein, technology, and more Sustainable Swine Nutrition, Second Edition, is an ideal resource for livestock scientists and industry professionals involved in all aspects of pork production.

Book Non Traditional Feeds for Use in Swine Production 1992

Download or read book Non Traditional Feeds for Use in Swine Production 1992 written by Phillip Thacker and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 745 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Feed represents the single greatest expense associated with bringing pigs to market weight. Therefore, if you can reduce the cost of feeding without detriment to pig performance, the economics of swine production will improve. The ingredient list for swine rations has become fairly limited, and the majority of diets fed to pigs consist of a few staples, such as corn, wheat, barley, and soybean meal. Non-Traditional Feeds for Use in Swine Production explores over fifty non-traditional feedstuffs in terms of their nutritional content and their viability as alternative, cost effective food sources
