Book excerpt: Lucky Traveler is about Leo McGregor, a twenty-year-old surfer dude living in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. He and his Irish pal Jimmy Flynn were surfing and made a bet to see who could catch the best wave that day. Leo won the bet, and the payoff was one Powerball Lottery ticket. Leo was the single winner of the $156 million pot. After a couple of months of getting badgered by the locals for money and handouts, Leo decided he needed to get out of town, so she hatched a plan to hitchhike across America to Santa Monica, California, via Route 66. Even though most of the Mother Road was long gone, he planned to veer off the main roads as much as possible to catch some of the famous roadside attractions. Leo left Kitty Hawk and his girlfriend behind and began hitchhiking barefoot with only the clothes on his back and a customized backpack full of items he might need along the way. On his journey, he met numerous interesting people and saw a lot of interesting sights. At each town and with each person who give him a ride, Leo experienced a unique adventure. Some of the things Leo experienced included getting kidnapped by a bungling thief at a 7-Eleven convenience store, accidentally burning down a Mexican restaurant, and being in a van that flipped over the guardrail into a ravine and the driver turned out to be a drug dealer. Leo documented his journey in a journal on his tablet. He hoped to someday write a book about his journey and give the profits to charity. He reached Santa Monica in thirty-nine days and had grown in so many ways. Once he reached the West Coast, Leo had a decision to make. Should he spend a few days at the beach then head back to Kitty Hawk, or continue his soul-searching? His story continues in the sequel.

Book excerpt: This is what I want, she thought. This night with you. This impossible dream. “It’s just that we’re not supposed to be . . .” “Doing this? Because a psychopath warned us not to?” Yes, Lucas realized. That was her worry. Her fear. The killer. Not him. His entire being filled with relief. “This is about us, Galen. You and me. No one else. Nothing else. Just us. Okay?” “Okay.” “And Galen, if you tell me to stop, I will stop. No matter when.” “I won’t tell you to stop.” Not ever. He chases killers . . . Homicide lieutenant Lucas Hunter has a sixth sense for evil and a fierce and relentless passion for putting criminals behind bars. Now his quarry is the cunning madman known as "The Lady Killer", the monster whose victims are glamorous, beautiful women who were at one time close to the sexy lieutenant himself. She chases dreams . . . Galen Chandler's career is on the edge—again. Indeed, the disastrous and soon to be ex-anchorwoman is on the verge of leaving Manhattan when the madman calls her, to use her to lure Lucas Hunter out to play. Theirs is an unlikely alliance, the icy-eyed hunter and the woman on the run. And it’s an even unlikelier love. But in the midst of the dangerous game of life and death, they discover something fragile and precious—and precarious—that feels very much like home. Book Imagine Love

Book excerpt: Imagine moonlight and roses. And London and Paris. And the intoxicating magic of a Louisiana bayou. Then join New York Times bestselling author Katherine Stone on this enthralling journey of passion, courage, danger, and love . . . They met beside a brilliant blue bayou. She was an innocent girl, and he was a reckless and angry boy. Claire Chamberlain believed in dreams, and Cole Taylor believed in nothing at all. Cole had no reason to believe—until her. They pledged their love beneath the silver winter moon, but their bold dreams were shattered. Now, twelve years later, Cole Taylor, singer of love songs, returns to the bayou. So much—for Claire—has changed. Yet she has found a private peace, such a fragile one that Cole's very presence threatens her serenity. And now Cole is asking her to do the impossible, to come away with him to London. Claire knows he will break her heart again, but she will be with him, she has to be, for as long as she can. Claire's is not the only endangered heart in London. A murderer has sent Lady Sarah Pembroke an engraved Valentine invitation—to her own death. And is Claire's girlhood friend afraid of the knife-wielding monster? Hardly. The Global News' star correspondent, the woman who feels oddly sane amid the madness of war, has her own private demons, memories far more fearsome than a murderer who chooses the most romantic day of the year to inflict his lethal terror. But neither Sarah's past nor the killer stalking her are as terrifying as Jack Dalton, the FBI consultant determined to save Sarah's life. Jack needs Sarah's help in his exhaustive, careful search for clues, but remarkably and infuriatingly, Sarah resists. Sarah will not tell Jack the intimate information he needs to know, and yet it's as if he already knows her anguished secrets, cares for her more than he should, and wants far more from her than she can ever give. Imagine Love is an enthralling read, a beautifully crafted tapestry of suspense and love, of surprises you won't imagine, and of men and women you will never forget. Book A Midnight Clear

Download or read book A Midnight Clear written by Katherine Stone and published by Katherine Stone. This book was released on 2022-03-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Katherine Stone's magical touch makes A Midnight Clear a story for all seasons.”—Book Page Thunder sounded anew, closer now, an ominous rumbling, a ferocious growl. Both of them greeted the sound with gentle smiles. Then Jace spoke without smiling, but with such gentleness still, as lightning illuminated the night gray sky. “I think, Julia, that you are absolutely fearless.” “No, Jace. I’m not. On paper maybe I might seem that way. On plans conjured months in advance and an ocean away. But now that I’m here . . .” “I would be very happy to prove my point. By accompanying you to Canterfields.” “Really?” “Of course.” “I . . . yes. Thank you. That makes me feel safe.” Oh, Julia Anne Hayley, he thought, you are not safe with me. For him, love was a nightmare . . . Haunted by memories of a Christmas Eve inferno, trauma surgeon Jace Colton guards his solitude as fiercely and as passionately as he tends to the desperately injured who need his care. For her, love is an awakening . . . Julia Anne Hayley's memories are lovely, not haunting, a billowy cocoon in which she has hidden from life, from living, far too long. But she knows it is time to leave the solitary sanctuary that is her home, and, if she dares, to fly. Jace and Julia have six magical days—and nights—in London at Christmas. But their Christmastime enchantment is like a snowflake, delicate, perfect, and destined to die. The magic cannot possibly last . . . can it? Praise for the novels of Katherine Stone: “Katherine Stone’s unique voice is clearly evident in this newest lyrical tale . . . an almost mystical quality that is distinctly her own.”—Romantic Times on A Midnight Clear “A shimmering, hypnotic story of two wounded souls who heal each other. An addictive and indulgent treat.”—Bookbug on A Midnight Clear “Remarkably romantic and thoroughly enchanting.”—Rendezvous on Pearl Moon “Poignant . . . Book Terrors of Childhood in Grimms Fairy Tales

Download or read book Terrors of Childhood in Grimms Fairy Tales written by Winfried Kudszus and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2005 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Questioning culturally predetermined consolidations of childhood experience, this study focuses on memory and affect on the verge of linguistic formulation. Fairy tale plots frequently function as cover-ups of a deeply rooted violence that expresses itself through sensibilities of the skin and in presymbolically charged cataclysms. In a narrative border zone, early linguistic and psychic events reemerge with primordial force. Split into seemingly irreconcilable opposites, good and evil engage in warfare with each other; cannibalism and infanticide take hold of family life. Four tales are presented here as related in 1857 by the Brothers Grimm, along with new translations. Through in-depth readings of these intricately interpersonal texts, this inquiry explores a frightful silence.
