Book Photosynthesis

    Book Details:
  • Author : G. Garab
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 1998-12-15
  • ISBN : 9780792355458
  • Pages : 966 pages

Download or read book Photosynthesis written by G. Garab and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1998-12-15 with total page 966 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Photosynthesis is a process on which virtually all life on Earth depends. To answer the basic questions at all levels of complexity, from molecules to ecosystems, and to establish correlations and interactions between these levels, photosynthesis research - perhaps more than any other discipline in biology - requires a multidisciplinary approach. Congresses probably provide the only forums where progress throughout the whole field can be overviewed. The Congress proceedings give faithful pictures of recent advances in photosynthesis research and outline trends and perspectives in all areas, ranging from molecular events to aspects of photosynthesis on the global scale. The Proceedings Book, a set of 4 (or 5) volumes, is traditionally highly recognized and intensely quoted in the literature, and is found on the shelves of most senior scientists in the field and in all major libraries.

Book Drug Resistance in Leukemia and Lymphoma III

Download or read book Drug Resistance in Leukemia and Lymphoma III written by G.J.L. Kaspers and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 613 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cellular drug resistance is a major limitation to the success of chemotherapy of leu kemia and lymphoma. The importance of this has now been recognized by both clinicians and scientists. It is of utmost importance to bridge the gap between laboratory and clinic in this field of research. This is the main purpose of the series of International Symposia on Drug Resistance in Leukemia and Lymphoma. These are held every three years in Am sterdam, The Netherlands, since 1992. This book contains the proceedings of the third of these meetings, organised in 1998. The book covers all important aspects of drug resistance in leukemia and lymphoma, both in the form of extensive reviews as in manuscripts describing original data. General mechanisms of resistance are discussed, including the drug resistance related proteins p glycoprotein, MRP (multi-drug resistance protein) and LRP (lung resistance protein), and the role of glutathione and glutathione-S-transferases. Moreover, more drug type-specific mechanisms of resistance are a topic, such as for glucocorticoids and antifolates. Much in formation is provided on apoptosis and its regulators, and on the results of cell culture drug resistance assays. Several papers focus on the modulation or circumvention of drug resistance.

Book Bacterial Chromatin

    Book Details:
  • Author : Remus T. Dame
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2009-12-24
  • ISBN : 9048134730
  • Pages : 447 pages

Download or read book Bacterial Chromatin written by Remus T. Dame and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-24 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The birth and the development of molecular biology and, subsequently, of genetic engineering and biotechnology cannot be separated from the advancements in our knowledge of the genetics, biochemistry and physiology of bacteria and bacter- phages. Also most of the tools employed nowadays by biotechnologists are of bacterial (or bacteriophage) origin and the playground for most of the DNA manipulations still remains within bacteria. The relative simplicity of the bacterial cell, the short gene- tion times, the well defined and inexpensive culturing conditions which characterize bacteria and the auto-catalytic process whereby a wealth of in-depth information has been accumulated throughout the years have significantly contributed to generate a large number of knowledge-based, reliable and exploitable biological systems. The subtle relationships between phages and their hosts have produced a large amount of information and allowed the identification and characterization of a number of components which play essential roles in fundamental biological p- cesses such as DNA duplication, recombination, transcription and translation. For instance, to remain within the topic of this book, two important players in the or- nization of the nucleoid, FIS and IHF, have been discovered in this way. Indeed, it is difficult to find a single fundamental biological process whose structural and functional aspects are better known than in bacteria.

Book Multiple Drug Resistance in Cancer 2

Download or read book Multiple Drug Resistance in Cancer 2 written by Martin Clynes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 343 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resistance to chemotherapy, and especially multi-drug resistance, represents a significant barrier to the successful treatment of cancer. This multi-author volume brings together a wide range of up-to-date reviews on different aspects of our knowledge of drug-resistance mechanisms, written by experts in the different areas. Particular attention is paid to recently discovered mechanisms relating to oncogene expression and in particular to proteins involved in regulation and execution of apoptosis. Other important topics covered include DNA repair, topoisomerases, cell cycle control, oxygenation and vascularisation of tumours, LRP, intermediate filament proteins and low-level resistance. Recent developments in understanding the role of efflux pumps (P-170, MRP) in multi-drug resistance are also reviewed. This book will be useful to clinicians and scientists working in the areas of chemotherapy, drug resistance, DNA repair and apoptosis research.

Book Manual of Cable Osteosyntheses

Download or read book Manual of Cable Osteosyntheses written by Reiner Labitzke and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In bone surgery it is essential to compress fractures interfragmentarily in order to make them resistant to the tensile force of muscles and the force resulting from acceleration and deceleration. This can be best achieved by the use of cable tension bands as a traction mechanism. The cable tension band is - in terms of stability of fractures - far superior to the conventional rigid cerclage wire which has been widely used in osteosynthesis for over 100 years. The author explains the biomechanics of the tension band in detail. Theoretical findings are confirmed by clinical test results. All osteosynthetic techniques which can be carried out with cables are described giving details of operation instructions. Errors and risks are always pointed out. A reference book and operative manual at a time.
