Book Review and Evaluation of Hydrodynamic Modeling for the Lower St Johns River Estuary

Download or read book Review and Evaluation of Hydrodynamic Modeling for the Lower St Johns River Estuary written by Lisa Roig and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The St. Johns River Water Management District and the U.S. Army Engineer District, Jacksonville, desire to quantify the hydrodynamic, sediment transport, and water quality processes of the Lower St. Johns River Estuary (LSJRE). To this end, a comprehensive numerical model development program is planned. In support of this effort, this report reviews the basic equations of estuarine hydrodynamics. Major hydrodynamic modeling technologies are compared and contrasted. The data requirements for application of a hydrodynamic model to the LSJRE are outlined. An approach for developing a system of models and monitoring programs for the LSJRE is recommended. Computer hardware and software issues that will affect the productivity of the modeling system are discussed. Estuarine modeling, Hydrodynamic modeling, Lower St. Johns River Estuary.

Download or read book Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics 2003 written by K.J Bathe and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-06-02 with total page 2485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bringing together the world's leading researchers and practitioners of computational mechanics, these new volumes meet and build on the eight key challenges for research and development in computational mechanics. Researchers have recently identified eight critical research tasks facing the field of computational mechanics. These tasks have come about because it appears possible to reach a new level of mathematical modelling and numerical solution that will lead to a much deeper understanding of nature and to great improvements in engineering design. The eight tasks are: The automatic solution of mathematical models Effective numerical schemes for fluid flows The development of an effective mesh-free numerical solution method The development of numerical procedures for multiphysics problems The development of numerical procedures for multiscale problems The modelling of uncertainties The analysis of complete life cycles of systems Education - teaching sound engineering and scientific judgement Readers of Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics 2003 will be able to apply the combined experience of many of the world's leading researchers to their own research needs. Those in academic environments will gain a better insight into the needs and constraints of the industries they are involved with; those in industry will gain a competitive advantage by gaining insight into the cutting edge research being carried out by colleagues in academia. Features Bridges the gap between academic researchers and practitioners in industry Outlines the eight main challenges facing Research and Design in Computational mechanics and offers new insights into the shifting the research agenda Provides a vision of how strong, basic and exciting education at university can be harmonized with life-long learning to obtain maximum value from the new powerful tools of analysis

Book Estuarine Ecohydrology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Eric Wolanski
  • Publisher : Elsevier
  • Release : 2015-08-20
  • ISBN : 0444634142
  • Pages : 334 pages

Download or read book Estuarine Ecohydrology written by Eric Wolanski and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2015-08-20 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Estuarine Ecohydrology, Second Edition, provides an ecohydrology viewpoint of an estuary as an ecosystem by focusing on its principal components, the river, the estuarine waters, the sediment, the nutrients, the wetlands, the oceanic influence, and the aquatic food web, as well as models of the health of an estuary ecosystem. Estuaries, the intersection of freshwater and coastal ecosystems, exhibit complex physical and biological processes which must be understood in order to sustain and restore them when necessary. This book demonstrates how, based on an understanding of the processes controlling estuarine ecosystem health, one can quantify its ability to cope with human stresses. The theories, models, and real-world solutions presented serve as a toolkit for designing a management plan for the ecologically sustainable development of estuaries. Provides a sound knowledge of the physical functioning of an estuary, a critical component of understanding its ecological functioning Ideal reference for those interested in marine biology, oceanography, coastal management, and sustainable development Describes the essentials behind conceptual and numerical models of the health of an estuary ecosystem and how to use these models to quantify both human impacts and the value of remediation and management measures Chapters are written in an accessible way that encourages collaboration between aquatic, marine, and wetland biologists, ecologists, oceanographers, geologists, geomorphologists, chemists, and ecosystem modelers Covers the physical, chemical, and biological elements of estuary environments, indicating that the essence of an estuary’s functioning lies in its connectivity with the adjacent catchment and the marine/coastal system

Book State hydrodynamics Identification in the Lower St Johns River Using the Ensemble Kalman Filter

Download or read book State hydrodynamics Identification in the Lower St Johns River Using the Ensemble Kalman Filter written by Hitoshi Tamura and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis presents a method, Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF), applied to a high-resolution, shallow water equations model (DG ADCIRC-2DDI) of the Lower St. Johns River with observation data at four gauging stations. EnKF, a sequential data assimilation method for non-linear problems, is developed for tidal flow simulation for estimation of state variables, i.e., water levels and depth-integrated currents for overland unstructured finite element meshes. The shallow water equations model is combined with observation data, which provides the basis of the EnKF applications. In this thesis, EnKF is incorporated into DG ADCIRC-2DDI code to estimate the state variables. Upon its development, DG ADCIRC-2DDI with EnKF is first validated by implementing to a low-resolution, shallow water equations model of a quarter annular harbor with synthetic observation data at six gauging stations. Second, DG ADCIRC-2DDI with EnKF is implemented to a high-resolution, shallow water equations model of the Lower St. Johns River with real observation data at four gauging stations. Third, four different experiments are performed by applying DG ADCIRC-2DDI with EnKF to the Lower St. Johns River.
