Book Dynamic Plastic Buckling of Spherical Shells During Collapse

Download or read book Dynamic Plastic Buckling of Spherical Shells During Collapse written by and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Conditions are established that lead to the growth of initial displacement imperfections (buckling) of complete spherical shells during significant inward motion. This preliminary study is limited to axisymmetric buckling modes only. Shell thickening during inward motion is taken into account, and its effect is found to be important for the stability and maximum growth of a given initial imperfection mode. Upper and lower bounds on the initial, uniform impulsive velocity loading are found (in terms of spherical shell geometry and material parameters) such that growth of initial displacement imperfections remains less than a prescribed multiplier when initial inward velocity lies outside the bounded region. 10 refs., 8 figs.

Book Bifurcation Buckling of Spherical Caps

Download or read book Bifurcation Buckling of Spherical Caps written by Edward L. Reiss and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A nonlinear boundary value problem was considered for the axisymmetric buckling of thin spherical shells subjected to uniform external pressure. The uniformly compressed spherical state is a solution of this problem for all values of the pressure. It was proven, using Poincare's method, that for pressures sufficiently near each simple eigenvalue of the linearized shell buckling theory, there is another (buckled) solution of the nonlinear problem. A convergent perturbation expansion was used to analyze the buckled solutions near the eigenvalues. For a limited range of caps, it was proven that one or three buckled solutions bifurcate from the multiple (double) eigenvalues depending on their order. The existence of a lowest intermediate buckling was established and precise upper and lower bounds were given on its magnitude.

Download or read book Newton Raphson written by Harry G. Schaeffer and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feasibility of utilizing mathematical programing techniques for determining stable equilibrium states of nonlinear structural systems is explored. The physical problem chosen for evaluation of this methodology was the nonlinear behavior of a shallow spherical shell subjected to uniform pressure. The procedure found most useful was a hybrid method consisting principally of a generalized Newton-Raphson technique with intermittent application of the conjugate-gradient search technique. The variation of buckling pressure with changes in edge restraint and shell geometry is found for a uniformly loaded shell.

Book Buckling And Postbuckling Structures Ii Experimental Analytical And Numerical Studies

Download or read book Buckling And Postbuckling Structures Ii Experimental Analytical And Numerical Studies written by Brian G Falzon and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2018-02-14 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an in-depth treatment of the study of the stability of engineering structures. Contributions from internationally recognized leaders in the field ensure a wide coverage of engineering disciplines in which structural stability is of importance, in particular the experimental, analytical and numerical modelling of structural stability applied to aeronautical, civil and marine structures. This second volume in buckling and postbuckling structures builds on the first, and reports on the development of fast semi-analytical methods for the rapid characterization of postbuckling structures; optimization approaches for the design of stiffened composite panels, and a discourse on imperfection sensitivity. This book will be a particularly useful reference to professional engineers, graduate students and researchers interested in structural stability.

Book Buckling of a Complete Spherical Shell Under Uniform External Pressure

Download or read book Buckling of a Complete Spherical Shell Under Uniform External Pressure written by Harry E. Rauch and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Non-linear axisymmetric bucking of a complete spherical elastic shell under uniform external pressure is treated numerically. Particular attention is given to the lower critical load, which is the theoretical least failure load. Among the new results are the evaluation of this load for thinner shells than those treated in the existing literature; in particular, the values 6.73% and 4.9% of the classical linear buckling loads are obtained for the radius-to-thickness ratios 100 and 200, respectively. The shapes of the buckled shells are computed for the first time in an unexpected hint that there is an asymptotic (ratios-to-thickness ration-independent) buckled shape. Numerical solution is by means of spectral (Galerkin) expansions of up to 60 modes in associated Legendre functions of order one applied to the quadratically non-linear version of E. Reissner's equations. (Author).
