This book was released on 1950 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A low-speed investigation has been conducted in the Langley two-dimensional low-turbulence tunnel to study a sweptback wing-root air-inlet configuration believed suitable for transonic-speed jet-powered airplanes. The test configurations consisted of a basic model with an NACA 64-008 wing with quarter-chord sweepback of 45 degrees mounted in the midwing position on a fuselage of fineness ratio 6.7, and an inlet model which had a triangular-shaped sweptback inlet installed in the wing root.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now reissued by Cambridge University Press, this sixth edition covers the fundamentals of aerodynamics using clear explanations and real-world examples. Aerodynamics concept boxes throughout showcase real-world applications, chapter objectives provide readers with a better understanding of the goal of each chapter and highlight the key 'take-home' concepts, and example problems aid understanding of how to apply core concepts. Coverage also includes the importance of aerodynamics to aircraft performance, applications of potential flow theory to aerodynamics, high-lift military airfoils, subsonic compressible transformations, and the distinguishing characteristics of hypersonic flow. Supported online by a solutions manual for instructors, MATLAB® files for example problems, and lecture slides for most chapters, this is an ideal textbook for undergraduates taking introductory courses in aerodynamics, and for graduates taking preparatory courses in aerodynamics before progressing to more advanced study.

Book Summary and Analysis of Horizontal tail Contribution to Longitudinal Stability of Swept wing Airplanes at Low Speeds

Download or read book Summary and Analysis of Horizontal tail Contribution to Longitudinal Stability of Swept wing Airplanes at Low Speeds written by Robert H. Neely and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 100 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Air-flow characteristics behind wings and wing-body combinations are described and are related to the downwash at specific tail locations for unseparated and separated flow conditions. The effects of various parameters and control devices on the air-flow characteristics and tail contribution are analyzed and demonstrated. An attempt has been made to summarize certain data in a form useful for design. The experimental data herein were obtained mostly at Reynolds numbers greater than 4 x 105 and at Mach numbers less than 0.25.

Book Aerodynamic Design of Transport Aircraft

Download or read book Aerodynamic Design of Transport Aircraft written by E. Obert and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2009-04-16 with total page 656 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The origin of Aerodynamic Design of Transport Aircraft stems from the time when the author was appointed part-time professor in the Aerospace Faculty of Delft University of Technology. At the time his main activities were those of leading the departments of Aerodynamics, Performance and Preliminary Design at Fokker Aircraft Company. The groundwork for this book started in 1987 as a series of lecture notes consisting mainly of pictorial material with a minimum of English explanatory text. After the demise of Fokker in 1996 one feared that interest in aeronautical engineering would strongly diminish. As a result of this, the course was discontinued and the relationship between the author and the faculty came to an end. Two years later the situation was reappraised, and the interest in aeronautical engineering remained, so the course was reinstated with a former Fokker colleague Ronald Slingerland as lecturer. The lecture notes from these courses form the foundation of this publication.

Book Airplane Stability and Control

Download or read book Airplane Stability and Control written by Malcolm J. Abzug and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-09-23 with total page 417 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the early machines to today's sophisticated aircraft, stability and control have always been crucial considerations. In this second edition, Abzug and Larrabee again forge through the history of aviation technologies to present an informal history of the personalities and the events, the art and the science of airplane stability and control. The book includes never-before-available impressions of those active in the field, from pre-Wright brothers airplane and glider builders through to contemporary aircraft designers. Arranged thematically, the book deals with early developments, research centers, the effects of power on stability and control, the discovery of inertial coupling, the challenge of stealth aerodynamics, a look toward the future, and much more. It is profusely illustrated with photographs and figures, and includes brief biographies of noted stability and control figures along with a core bibliography. Professionals, students, and aviation enthusiasts alike will appreciate this readable history of airplane stability and control.

Book The Theory of Diffusion in Strained Systems

Download or read book The Theory of Diffusion in Strained Systems written by Louis A. Girifalco and published by . This book was released on 1959 with total page 1082 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general theory of solid-state diffusion in strained systems is developed on a molecular-kinetic basis. The theory predicts that for simple strains the diffusion coefficient is an exponential function of the lattice parameter and that the rate of change of the diffusion coefficient with strain is linearly related to the interatomic forces. It has also been shown that for plastic flow the diffusion coefficient is a linear function of strain rate. All the conclusions are confirmed by the data available in the literature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: General Aviation Aircraft Design, Second Edition, continues to be the engineer's best source for answers to realistic aircraft design questions. The book has been expanded to provide design guidance for additional classes of aircraft, including seaplanes, biplanes, UAS, high-speed business jets, and electric airplanes. In addition to conventional powerplants, design guidance for battery systems, electric motors, and complete electric powertrains is offered. The second edition contains new chapters: - Thrust Modeling for Gas Turbines - Longitudinal Stability and Control - Lateral and Directional Stability and Control These new chapters offer multiple practical methods to simplify the estimation of stability derivatives and introduce hinge moments and basic control system design. Furthermore, all chapters have been reorganized and feature updated material with additional analysis methods. This edition also provides an introduction to design optimization using a wing optimization as an example for the beginner. Written by an engineer with more than 25 years of design experience, professional engineers, aircraft designers, aerodynamicists, structural analysts, performance analysts, researchers, and aerospace engineering students will value the book as the classic go-to for aircraft design. - The printed book is now in color, with 1011 figures and illustrations! - Presents the most common methods for conceptual aircraft design - Clear presentation splits text into shaded regions, separating engineering topics from mathematical derivations and examples - Design topics range from the "new" 14 CFR Part 23 to analysis of ducted fans. All chapters feature updated material with additional analysis methods. Many chapters have been reorganized for further help. Introduction to design optimization is provided using a wing optimization as an example for the beginner - Three new chapters are offered, two of which focus on stability and control.
