Book Low Cycle Fatigue of Al Mg Si Alloys

Download or read book Low Cycle Fatigue of Al Mg Si Alloys written by K. Detert and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The low cycle fatigue behavior of several age-hardened aluminum alloys with 1% Mg and 1% Si as alloying elements and varying Mn additions of up to 1% was studied. The alloy with the smallest grain size showed the highest strength as well as the highest low cycle fatigue strength. The number of cycles to failure represented by its dependency on strain range did not show any significant differences. However, one could derive from these results that one should try to reduce the number and size of inclusion particles in order to improve fatigue properties. In such a case one can expect that a small grain size of 20 ?m diameter, Mn additions of 0.2 to 0.5%, and a polished surface with a roughness below 0.5 ?m would be beneficial for low cycle fatigue properties.

Book Low Cycle Fatigue and Elasto Plastic Behaviour of Materials

Download or read book Low Cycle Fatigue and Elasto Plastic Behaviour of Materials written by K.T. Rie and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 781 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1979 the first InternationalSymposium on Low CycleFatigue and Elasto-Plastic Behaviour of Materials was held in Stuttgart, FRG. Since then research in low cycle fatigue has proceeded rapidly. The vital interest of engineers and researchers in communicating the rapid advances in the ongoing research in low cycle fatigue has encouraged me to initiate again the Second International Conference which was held in Munich, FRG, 7-11 September 1987. Failure in low cycle fatigue represents a serious problem in the design and opera tion of highly stressed structures. Under complex loading and environmental cir cumstances, especially for high temperature services, reliable life prediction can not be expected without detailed consideration of the failure mechanism and with out extensive use of mechanistic approaches. The purpose of this conference was to provide a forum to discuss the advances in recent research in the field of low cycle fatigue. The conference was intended to help to further bridge the gap between those who are involved in basic research, and the engineers who have to perform the design of highly stressed structural components.

Book Low Cycle Fatigue of Some Aluminum Alloys

Download or read book Low Cycle Fatigue of Some Aluminum Alloys written by YS. Chung and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Axial strain-controlled tests were performed on five aluminum alloys to provide information on their cyclic behavior. The alloys chosen for this investigation represent a complete survey of the strengthening mechanisms associated with commercial aluminum products. The strengthening microstructures ranged from subgrain and dislocation strengthening in the 1200 alloy, solid solution strengthening by magnesium in the 5083, and the high density of GP zones and finely dispersed precipitates in the case of the 7005, 6351, and 6061 alloys. The five alloys were plant-fabricated with commercial tempers.

Book excerpt: Aluminium is an important metal in manufacturing, due to its versatile properties and the many applications of both the processed metal and its alloys in different industries. Fundamentals of aluminium metallurgy provides a comprehensive overview of the production, properties and processing of aluminium, and its applications in manufacturing industries. Part one discusses different methods of producing and casting aluminium, covering areas such as casting of alloys, quality issues and specific production methods such as high-pressure diecasting. The metallurgical properties of aluminium and its alloys are reviewed in Part two, with chapters on such topics as hardening, precipitation processes and solute partitioning and clustering, as well as properties such as fracture resistance. Finally, Part three includes chapters on joining, laser sintering and other methods of processing aluminium, and its applications in particular areas of industry such as aerospace. With its distinguished editor and team of expert contributors, Fundamentals of aluminium metallurgy is a standard reference for researchers in metallurgy, as well as all those involved in the manufacture and use of aluminium products. Provides a comprehensive overview of the production, properties and processing of aluminium, and its applications in manufacturing industries Considers many issues of central importance in aluminium production and utilization considering quality issues and design for fatigue growth resistance Metallurgical properties of aluminium and its alloys are further explored with particular reference to work hardening and applications of industrial alloys

Book Environmental Corrosion fatigue Behavior of Aluminum Alloys

Download or read book Environmental Corrosion fatigue Behavior of Aluminum Alloys written by D. N. Williams and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of environment on fatigue behavior are quite intimately related to such test variables as stress intensity, cyclic frequency, and temperature. The effect of these variables has been shown to be quite complex. However, a consistent pattern of behavior is beginning to emerge which, it is hoped, will lead to a considerably changed understanding of the corrosion-fatigue process. It is considered probable that an increased understanding of the corrosion-fatigue process will also contribute measureably to an improved understanding of general fatigue processes. Material variables such as composition, directionality of properties, and microstructure, have important effects on corrosion-fatigue behavior of aluminum alloys. However, it appears that these variables, at least in gaseous environments, may be important largely because of their effects on the mechanical behavior of aluminum alloys. On the other hand, studies in seawater suggest that these variables become increasingly important as the corrosive nature of the environment increases. This memorandum discusses in detail the effects of both test variables and material variables on corrosion fatigue. In addition, current theories of corrosion-fatigue mechanisms are outlined, and several methods of preventing corrosion fatigue are suggested. (Author).

Book Microstructure sensitive Plasticity and Fatigue Modeling of Extruded 6061 Aluminum Alloys

Download or read book Microstructure sensitive Plasticity and Fatigue Modeling of Extruded 6061 Aluminum Alloys written by Robert Ross McCullough and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, the development of fatigue failure and stress anisotropy in light weight ductile metal alloys, specifically Al-Mg-Si aluminum alloys, was investigated. The experiments were carried out on an extruded 6061 aluminum alloy. Reverse loading experiments were performed up to a prestrain of 5% in both tension-followed-by-compression and compression-followed-by-tension. The development of isotropic and kinematic hardening and subsequent anisotropy was indicated by the observation of the Bauschinger effect phenomenon. Experimental results show that 6061 aluminum alloy exhibited a slight increase in the kinematic hardening versus applied prestrain. However, the ratio of kinematic-to-isotropic hardening remained near unity. An internal state variable (ISV) plasticity and damage model was used to capture the evolution of the anisotropy for the as-received T6 and partially annealed conditions. Following the stress anisotropy experiments, the same extruded 6061 aluminum alloy was tested under fully reversing, strain-controlled low cycle fatigue at up to 2.5% strain amplitudes and two heat treatment conditions. Observations were made of the development of striation fields up to the point of nucleation at cracked and clustered precipitants and free surfaces through localized precipitant slip band development. A finite element enabled micro-mechanics study of fatigue damage development of local strain field in the presence of hard phases was conducted. Both the FEA and experimental data sets were utilized in the implementation of a multi-stage fatigue model in order to predict the microstructure response, including fatigue nucleation and propagation contributions on the total fatigue life in AA6061. Good correlation between experimental and predicted results in the number of cycles to final failure was observed. The AA6061 material maintained relatively consistent low cycle fatigue performance despite two different heat treatments.
