Book Supercapacitors

Download or read book Supercapacitors written by Francois Beguin and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-04-02 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supercapacitors are a relatively new energy storage system that provides higher energy density than dielectric capacitors and higher power density than batteries. They are particularly suited to applications that require energy pulses during short periods of time, e.g., seconds or tens of seconds. They are recommended for automobiles, tramways, buses, cranes, fork-lifts, wind turbines, electricity load leveling in stationary and transportation systems, etc. Despite the technological maturity of supercapacitors, there is a lack of comprehensive literature on the topic. Many high performance materials have been developed and new scientific concepts have been introduced. Taking into account the commercial interest in these systems and the new scientific and technological developments now is the ideal time to publish this book, capturing all this new knowledge. The book starts by giving an introduction to the general principles of electrochemistry, the properties of electrochemical capacitors, and electrochemical characterization techniques. Electrical double layer capacitors and pseudocapacitors are then discussed, followed by the various electrolyte systems. Modelling, manufacture of industrial capacitors, constraints, testing, and reliability as well as applications are also covered. 'Supercapacitors - Materials, Systems, and Applications' is part of the series on Materials for Sustainable Energy and Development edited by Prof. G.Q. Max Lu. The series covers advances in materials science and innovation for renewable energy, clean use of fossil energy, and greenhouse gas mitigation and associated environmental technologies.

Book Honey Bee

Download or read book Honey Bee written by Anatole France and published by Library of Alexandria. This book was released on 2020-09-28 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The sea covers to-day what was once the Duchy of Clarides. No trace of the town or the castle remains. But when it is calm there can be seen, it is said, within the circumference of a mile, huge trunks of trees standing on the bottom of the sea. A spot on the banks, which now serves as a station for the customhouse officers, is still called "The Tailor's Booth," and it is quite probable that this name is in memory of a certain Master Jean who is mentioned in this story. The sea, which encroaches year by year, will soon cover this spot so curiously named. Such changes are in the nature of things. The mountains sink in the course of ages, and the depths of the seas, on the contrary, rise until their shells and corals are carried to the regions of clouds and ice. Nothing endures. The face of land and sea is for ever changing. Tradition alone preserves the memory of men and places across the ages and renders real to us what has long ceased to exist. In telling you of Clarides I wish to take you back to times that have long since vanished. Thus I begin: The Countess of Blanchelande having placed on her golden hair a little black hood embroidered with pearls.... But before proceeding I must beg very serious persons not to read this. It is not written for them. It is not written for grave people who despise trifles and who always require to be instructed. I only venture to offer this to those who like to be entertained, and whose minds are both young and gay. Only those who are amused by innocent pleasures will read this to the end. Of these I beg, should they have little children, that they will tell them about my Honey-Bee. I wish this story to please both boys and girls and yet I hardly dare to hope it will. It is too frivolous for them and, really, only suitable for old-fashioned children. I have a pretty little neighbour of nine whose library I examined the other day. I found many books on the microscope and the zoophytes, as well as several scientific story-books. One of these I opened at the following lines: "The cuttle-fish Sepia Officinalis is a cephalopodic mollusc whose body includes a spongy organ containing a chylaqueous fluid saturated with carbonate of lime." My pretty little neighbour finds this story very interesting. I beg of her, unless she wishes me to die of mortification, never to read the story of Honey-Bee.

Book Bulk and Surface Chemistry Modification of Highly Porous Carbon for Supercapacitors

Download or read book Bulk and Surface Chemistry Modification of Highly Porous Carbon for Supercapacitors written by Stephanie L. Candelaria and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Highly porous carbon prepared through sol-gel processing is an excellent electrode material for supercapacitors, also known as electrochemical capacitors, because of its high surface area and pore volume, good conductivity, and low cost. Research has mostly focused on increasing the surface area of the carbon to improve charge storage, but there are limits to how large this value can be while still maintaining good electrochemical performance of the material. Alternatively, carbon can be modified with foreign elements, either in the bulk or on the pore surfaces, to induce pseudocapacitive reactions that can increase capacitance. Modified samples can also be tested at higher working voltages, which significantly increase the energy and power densities. In this work, highly porous carbon is modified with nitrogen and tested as electrodes in supercapacitors. Modification significantly increases the wettability of the carbon, and the capacitance increases with increasing nitrogen added. However, too much nitrogen can cause pore blockage and decrease accessible surface area, limiting the capacitance. Highly porous carbon, both with and without nitrogen on the pore surfaces, is then tested at higher working voltages. Increasing the voltage from 2V to 3V significantly improves both the energy density and power density. Finally, porous carbon was also synthesized from lignin, a complex polymer derived from natural resources and a waste product in the paper industry. Purification removed over half of the impurities and resulted in porous carbon with four times the internal surface area compared to unpurified lignin. When tested in devices, lignin-derived carbon shows promise as low-cost, renewable material for high performance supercapacitors.

Book Carbon and Metal Oxides Based Nanomaterials for Flexible High Performance Asymmetric Supercapacitors

Download or read book Carbon and Metal Oxides Based Nanomaterials for Flexible High Performance Asymmetric Supercapacitors written by Yating Hu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-06-23 with total page 124 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis examines electrode materials such as mesoporous carbons, manganese oxides, iron oxides and their nanohybrids with graphene. It also explores several of the key scientific issues that act as the governing principles for future development of supercapacitors, which are a promising class of high-efficiency energy storage devices for tackling a key aspect of the energy crisis. However, critical technical issues, such as the low energy density and reliability, need to be addressed before they can be extended to a wide range of applications with much improved performance. Currently available material candidates for the electrodes all have their disadvantages, such as a low specific capacitance or poor conductivity for transition metal oxide/hydroxide-based materials. This thesis addresses these important issues, and develops a high-performance, flexible asymmetric supercapacitor with manganese oxides/reduced graphene oxide as the positive electrode and iron oxide/reduced graphene oxide as the anode, which delivers a high energy density of 0.056 Wh cm-3.
