Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: INTRODUCTION Hi Poetry fans from all around the world. My name is Brett Johnson. First and foremost, I would like to say thank you for purchasing a copy of this eloquent, insightful, intellectual, introspective, thought provoking, sincere body of poetry work. This is my second published poetry book. I am even more proud of the creative thought process that penetrated from page one to the last. Basically, the title of the book is called "2008 Poetic Thoughts for the Summer, Fall, and first month of December. During that whole year of 2008, I kept a notepad daily. After every sunset, I would sit down, think a few minutes, and then jot down my inquisitive thoughts on how my genuine relationship with GOD keeps me animated through my ups and downs, smiles and frowns. This poetry book is a more detailed personal account of me as a human being, an imperfect man, a young adult struggling to find his own way to fit into this cold world of sin. Deep into my own zone of thought, I would constantly ask the lord Why do I Cry? Why did this sad event happen? If I was a husband or father, "Would I be this? Would I be that? The human spirit is so hopeless without the power of GOD in our lives. To all my diehard fans and soon to be fans, I really want you to personally digest, envision a few possible scenarios that could possibly relate to you in this book. How would you handle it? Would you give up? Would you continue to fight after you weep? Even if demons invade your dream, you can still show a proud, bright beam to your family, good, true, loyal friends, and best of all to GOD.

Book excerpt: Eros is the expression of our sexual sensualities in our relationships. It is also the initial language of love. It is the magnetism of the first glance, the interlocking of eyes, and the warm and fuzzy feeling that draws us into the intimate space of another. It is the rush of euphoria that swoons our rationale; it is the eruption in our stomach that makes it flutter with butterflies; it is the adrenalin that causes us to hear and feel our heartbeats outside of our chest as our souls connect; and, it is the crazy instantaneous attachment that we develop for people we barely know. Although "Eros" is the essence of infatuation, it is also the first indication of our affection. But it is often frowned upon, as if it is shameful, to be free to express passion for someone you are attracted to. Since the beginning of time, it has been the primary building block of the structure of a loving relationship. When we examine the first couple on earth, Adam and Eve, Adam was aroused by what he saw in the woman that God created. That initial arousal made Adam agree with God that His creation of woman was indeed, "good". In its raw natural form, Eros is the stimulus that moves us to recreate and procreate. It is also the deviant that makes us explore the deeper, darker side of our sexual fantasies. In this book, I delve into the innocent and the naughty realms of Eros where you will feel both the exhilaration of romanticism as well as the liberation of erotica.

Book Sweet Surrender

Download or read book Sweet Surrender written by Dennis Hiebert and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-07-09 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Every culture has a way of perceiving and practicing marriage. Many contemporary Western Christians mistake what their culture prescribes regarding marriage with what the Bible portrays, and thereby take as biblical what is merely cultural. Uncritical conformity to cultural imperatives of marriage then becomes a Christian virtue, and a sweet surrender. Few recognize, much less question this confusion, even when its consequences are unhealthy. In Sweet Surrender Dennis Hiebert challenges Christians to comprehend what is cultural in their view of marriage, hold as optional what is not explicitly required by the Bible, and live out their marriages within the transcendent grace of God. Gaining greater awareness can free marriages from the control of culture for something more simply but deeply Christian. Marriages benefit when they are released from cultural directives that are not biblical callings, even if they choose to retain them as cultural practices. This book is for Christians who are ready to rethink their assumptions about marriage.

Book excerpt: This collection focuses on child welfare in its specific sense: welfare and social interventions with children and young people undertaken by State bodies or NGO's. In the United Kingdom child welfare tends to refer to individualised programmes for children who have experienced problems in their lives. In India, to take a contrasting example, it can also refer to major housing and nutrition programmes. This collection takes an inclusive approach to international perspectives. The collection is completed by a new general introduction by the editor, individual volume introductions, and a full index.Titles also available in this series include, Medical Sociology (November 2004, 4 Volumes, 495) and the forthcoming collection Health Care Systems (2005, 3 Volumes, c.395).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "From Empire to Humanity tells the story of a generation of American and British activists who transformed humanitarianism as they adjusted to becoming foreigners to each other in the wake of the American Revolution. In the decades before the Revolution, Americans and Britons shared an imperial approach to charitable activity. They worked together in benevolent ventures designed to strengthen the British empire, and ordinary men and women donated to help faraway members of the British community. Raised and educated in this world of connections, future activists from the British Isles, North America, and the West Indies developed expansive outlooks and transatlantic ties. For budding doctors--including Philadelphia's Benjamin Rush, Caribbean-born Londoner John Coakley Lettsom, and John Crawford, whose life took him from Ireland to India, Barbados, South America, and, finally, Baltimore--this was especially true. American independence put an end to their common imperial humanitarianism, but not their friendships, their far-reaching visions, or their belief in philanthropy as a tool of statecraft. In the postwar years, with doctor-activists at the forefront, Americans and Britons collaborated in the anti-drowning cause and other medical philanthropy, antislavery movements, prison reform, and more. No longer members of the same polity, the erstwhile compatriots adopted a universal approach to their beneficence as they reimagined their bonds with people who were now foreigners. Universal benevolence could also be a source of tension. With the new wars at the end of the century, activists' optimistic cosmopolitanism waned, even as their practices endured. Making the care of suffering strangers routine, they laid the groundwork for later generations' global undertakings "--

Book The History of Childhood

Download or read book The History of Childhood written by Lloyd deMause and published by Jason Aronson, Incorporated. This book was released on 1995-06-01 with total page 461 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: from the Foreword: Possibly the heartless treatment of children, from the practice of infanticide and abandonment through to the neglect, the rigors of swaddling, the purposeful starving, the beatings, the solitary confinement, and so on, was and is only one aspect of the basic aggressiveness and cruelty of human nature, of the inbred disregard of the rights and feelings of others. Children, being physically unable to resist aggression, were the victims of forces over which they had no control, and they were abused in many imaginable and some almost unimaginable ways by way of expressing conscious or more commonly unconscious motives of their elders... The present volume abounds in evidence of all kinds, from all periods and peoples. The story is monotonously painful, but it is high time that it should be told and that it should be taken into account...
