Book excerpt: There may be no more powerful desire in the human heart than to be loved. And not just loved, but loved anyway. In spite of what we've done or left undone, in spite of the ways we have failed or floundered. We long for an unconditional, lavish love that we know intrinsically we don't deserve. If you are tired, sad, yet always longing, bestselling author Jared C. Wilson has incredible news for you: that kind of love actually exists, and it is actually something you can experience--whether or not you're in a romantic relationship. In his signature reflective, conversational, and often humorous style, Wilson unpacks 1 Corinthians 13 to show us what real love looks like. Through engaging stories and touching anecdotes, he paints a picture of an extravagant God who not only puts the desire for love into our very souls but fulfills those desires in striking, life-changing ways.

Book Wedding Toasts I ll Never Give

Download or read book Wedding Toasts I ll Never Give written by Ada Calhoun and published by W. W. Norton & Company. This book was released on 2017-05-16 with total page 117 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seven essays celebrating the beauty of the imperfect marriage. We hear plenty about whether or not to get married, but much less about what it takes to stay married. Clichés around marriage—eternal bliss, domestic harmony, soul mates—leave out the real stuff. After marriage you may still want to sleep with other people. Sometimes your partner will bore the hell out of you. And when stuck paying for your spouse’s mistakes, you might miss being single. In Wedding Toasts I’ll Never Give, Ada Calhoun presents an unflinching but also loving portrait of her own marriage, opening a long-overdue conversation about the institution as it truly is: not the happy ending of a love story or a relic doomed by high divorce rates, but the beginning of a challenging new chapter of which “the first twenty years are the hardest.” Calhoun’s funny, poignant personal essays explore the bedrooms of modern coupledom for a nuanced discussion of infidelity, existential anxiety, and the many other obstacles to staying together. Both realistic and openhearted, Wedding Toasts I’ll Never Give offers a refreshing new way to think about marriage as a brave, tough, creative decision to stay with another person for the rest of your life. “What a burden,” Calhoun calls marriage, “and what a gift.”

Book Anna Karenina Annotated with Biography and Critical Essay

Download or read book Anna Karenina Annotated with Biography and Critical Essay written by Leo Tolstoy and published by Golgotha Press. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 1397 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina is the story of a woman, Anna, wife of Alexei Alexandrovich Karenin. She is an apparently happily married matron of the Russian upper class. The novel begins with her attempt to smooth the troubled waters of her brother’s adulterous affair. Due to circumstances surrounding this situation she ends up in an adulterous affair of her own with a wealthy army officer, Count Vronsky. The novel is about the choices people make and the consequences of their actions in a society of strict social rules, hypocrisies and prejudices. Tolstoy weaves a story of great intricacy with a myriad of characters that move the action forward. Anna’s actions as a married woman involved in an extramarital affair eventually lead her to be outcast from her own society. She goes into an emotional decline and in time, commits suicide. The novel has a subplot about a young woman named Kitty who is courted by both Count Vronsky and a landowner, Konstantin Dmitrich Levin. She prefers Vronsky, but when she finds out about his affair with Anna, she is devastated and turns to Levin for comfort, and marries him. Their situation is a positive note in the novel - they enjoy a contented marriage. This annotated edition includes a biography and critical essay.

My goal no matter what therapists told me was to get around in a manual chair and to live independently."e;My treatment got so bad that all alone I took a plane from Colorado to Tennessee with only two backpacks to reach the spinal cord center. There they continued my therapy, took care of my wounds, and even taught me to drive."e;I wrote this book not to just tell people my story, but to show people who have given up, lost hope, or don't think they can make it another day to not give up, life is full of obstacles. That's what makes it interesting. Though I've learned as long as I kept moving forward, even if it was baby steps, I was doing well. Even when sometimes I took a few steps back or fell down, I learned with God's help to get back up and keep moving. I hope the people who read this will find the determination in themselves and not give up."e;Jenny Maher now lives in Richmond, Virginia, where she has bought a house and has two cats Pouncy and Sly to love and keep her entertained. She plans to continue writing and the next book she is working on is a murder mystery.Publisher's website: http://sbpra.com/JennyMaher
