Book excerpt: My memoirs are rather slanted. They include only the successes and none of the failures. Clinical vignettes that illustrate the healing process follow my career from a medical internship at Georgetown, through a fellowship in Psychiatry at Boston's Beth Israel Hospital. The discovery of the warming point in schizophrenia at D.C. General was followed by the almost miraculous healing of several thousand acutely ill schizophrenics during two years as Chief Psychiatrist. There is a detailed case history of the full recovery of a chronic schizophrenic considered untreatable. Patients with drug-resistant suicidal depression were successfully treated through a unique form of psychosurgery."Couldn't put it down, a page turner. The book is well written, interesting, and above all full of love. Publication is imperative so that what you did at D.C. General to help unravel the mystery of schizophrenia will not be forgotten, and also that new generations of psychiatrists will be inspired to follow where you have led." -Francis F. Barnes, M.D., Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and former Chief Psychiatrist at Sibley Memorial Hospital."Absolutely fascinated by your book. Did not put it down until I had read the entire book and highlighted so much of it. So thoughtful and so beautiful that it needs to be shared with as many people as possible." -Richard Miller, ESQ., Trial lawyer in Kansas City, MO."Fascinated with your book. It's spell binding." -Mrs. Patricia Normile, Professor of Economics at Montgomery College in Maryland."Very well written, flow easily and interestingly and is informative, uplifting and encouraging. It radiates the inner warmth it reports." -Phyllis Trible, Baldwin Professor of Sacred Literature, Union Theological Seminary, New York.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Healing with Love presents a highly regarded physician's practical, step-by- step program that shows how to turn on the power of our whole beings - hands, heart, and higher consciousness - to heal ourselves and others. This book, provides directions and practial tools for sefhealing and selfhelp. In his years as a physician and surgeon, Dr Leonard Laskow has come to view illness as separation, and healing as the restoration of our natural state of wholeness. He has coined the term Holoenergetic(R) Healing to describe a method that allows to dispel the illusion of separateness and to heal using the awareness and energy of the whole. Unconditional love - for self as well as others - is a crucial element of this method. Dr Laskow found that common themes that may be expressed through illness include difficulties accepting love and the belief 'I am not good enough', 'I don't deserve love'. This book shows us a way to identify and understand these limiting patterns and beliefs, release them, and replace them with life-affirming feelings of safety, nurturance, and love. Research involving Dr. Laskow reveals that deep compassion and love can produce distinctive electro-physiologic changes as measured by the electrocardiogram. This state of conscious heart coherence characterizes healing presence. Together with conscious choice and release of past conditioning, it can profoundly facilitate transformational change, and is a portal to Oneness.

Book The Compassionate Connection The Healing Power of Empathy and Mindful Listening

This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “This book explains not only the healing power of compassionate human connection, but in the most accessible and practical ways, how to cultivate our capacity to create that connection and thereby empower others to find their best selves.”—John Makransky, author of Awakening through Love All of us have an innate capacity for compassion. We recognize when others are hurting, and we want to help, but we’re not always good at it. There is another way. In The Compassionate Connection, Dr. David Rakel explains how we can strengthen our bonds with others—all the while doing emotional and physical good for ourselves. As founder and director of the University of Wisconsin Integrative Medicine program, Dr. Rakel discovered that we become the most effective helpers when we use the tool of human connection. Drawing on his own research and practice, as well as thirty years of published studies in medicine, sociology, psychology, meditation, and neuroscience, Dr. Rakel "stacks the deck" in favor of healing and introduces the concept of bio-psycho-spiritual authentic awareness. Not only are our bodies and minds connected, but also it has been scientifically proven that our capacity to feel beauty, awe, and compassion enhances our health and wellbeing. In The Compassionate Connection, Dr. Rakel provides an innovative approach to enhancing health in others and strengthening relationships through the art of connecting. These tools guide us to improve our connections—whether between doctor and patient, husband and wife, parent and child, or boss and employee—and live with clarity, wisdom, and good health.

  • Pages : 17 pages

Download or read book The Seven Mystic Sounds written by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and published by Philaletheians UK. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. The first is like the nightingale’s sweet voice chanting a song of parting to its mate. 2. The second comes as the sound of a silver cymbal of the Dhyanis, awakening the twinkling stars. Our body is an Aeolian harp chorded with two sets of strings: one made of pure silver, the other of catgut. 3. The next is as the plaint melodious of the ocean-sprite imprisoned in its shell. It is the Voice of Divine Wisdom and last word of the Secret Doctrine. 4. And this is followed by the chant of Vina, attuning fellow disciples to the harmonies of Wisdom. Even the memory of the sleeper is like the seven-stringed Aeolian harp, his mind sweeping over the chords. 5. The fifth like sound of bamboo-flute shrills in thine ear, bestowing knowledge of the awful mysteries and priceless secrets of initiation. 6. It changes next into a trumpet-blast, beckoning the Dragon of Esoteric Wisdom to come out of Darkness. 7. The last vibrates like the dull rumbling of a thunder-cloud. When the six are slain and at the Master’s feet are laid, then is the pupil merged into the One, becomes that One, and lives therein. The seventh swallows all the other sounds: they die, and then are heard no more. The two Opposing Forces are finally harmonised. The freed Spirit rises to its former glory. The Great Serpent uncoils. Only Sat remains. The Higher Self is swallowed up by the Great Serpent; the lower, disappears forever.

Book Heart Doctrine and Higher Ethics

Download or read book Heart Doctrine and Higher Ethics written by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky and published by Philaletheians UK. This book was released on 2017-10-28 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Heart Doctrine is enshrined like a pearl within the shell of every religion. Altruism, or the universal code of Higher Ethics, is its moral basis as embodied in “Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.” The Eye Doctrine is mere head-learning: a non-issue for the masses and for those who, though capable and fit, are unwilling to serve anyone but themselves. We are mad, not only individually, but nationally. We check manslaughter and isolated murders; but what of war and the much-vaunted crime of genocide? Theosophy is the pith and marrow of the Heart Doctrine, for its noble aim is the “Great Renunciation of self.” Service to, and love of, humanity is every true Theosophists’ religion and dogma. For pure love creates, selfish love corrupts. The one is sympathy; the other, fascination. The one is pure and holy; the other, evil and unnatural. Self-love is love misdirected and misapplied but love, nonetheless. For, the loving essence can never be extinguished but only perverted. Live for Humanity, the great Orphan, the only disinherited one upon this earth. The White Lodge aims to help us humanise our animal nature and thus awaken compassion for our fellow men and all that lives. After death one can choose between personal rest in Devachan and altruistic service on Earth. Spurning Devachan and remaining on Earth for the salvation of mankind, the Elect are the germ of a Hierarchy which never died since “there was no more going up and down” for Them. All workers for the Lodge are helped out of Devachan, if they consent.

Book True prayer is mental utterance in secret

Download or read book True prayer is mental utterance in secret written by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, William Quan Judge and published by Philaletheians UK. This book was released on 2022-01-17 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True prayer is unselfish love of humanity. It is an act of will and a command but, unless enacted, prayer is pathetic. Prayers should be for blessings on all that lives. We shall be able to pray to Him properly, only when we approach by ourselves alone to the Alone. Our prayers and supplications are vain, unless to potential words we add potent acts. And thus make the aura which surrounds each one of us so pure and divine that the God within us may act outwardly, or in other words, become as it were an extraneous potency. To produce beneficial effects, the prayer must be uttered by “one who knows how to make himself heard in silence,” when it is no longer a “prayer” but a command. A clear conscience and a firm desire of benefiting humanity afford the best protection from air elementals, which throng public places. Loud prayers are disastrous. Woe to the unholy man who invokes the Sacred Trinity for personal advancement or pronounces It after the commission of some far-reaching sin. The Devotional Prayers of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Alexander Pope.

Book The Lost Art of Healing

Download or read book The Lost Art of Healing written by Bernard Lown and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 1999-02-02 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The real crisis in medicine today is not about economics, insurance, or managed care--it's about the loss of the fundamental human relationship between doctor and patient. In this wise and passionate book, one of our most eminent physicians reacquaints us with a classic notion often overlooked in modern medicine: health care with a human face, in which the time-honored art of healing guides doctors in their approach to patient care and their use of medical technology. Drawing on four decades of practice as a cardiologist and a vast knowledge of literature and medical history, Dr. Lown probes the heart and soul of the doctor-patient relationship. Insightful and accessible to all, The Lost Art of Healing describes how true healers use sympathetic listening and touch to hone their diagnostic skills, how language affects the perception of illness, how doctors and patients can cultivate a relationship of trust, and how patients can obtain the most complete and beneficial care through a combination of healing techniques and conventional practices. As Dr. Lown explains, the art of healing does not mean abandoning the spectacular advances of modern science, but rather incorporating them into a sensitive, humane, enlightened approach to medical care. With its urgent message and poignant, fascinating vignettes, The Lost Art of Healing is a book of vital, universal importance.
