Book excerpt: We all live lives of dependence in one way or another. Joree Harbeck was born thirteen weeks premature. She suffered severe seizures hours after birth that caused cerebral palsy and significant damage to her brain. Her prognosis was pessimistic. Love goes both ways when we are willing to admit there is nothing we can do to determine the outcome of our lives, and we surrender to the truth that we are all dependent on others to assist us in traveling this road of life. Joy comes when we allow others to love and care for us deeply and when we do the same in return.

Book excerpt: In Look Both Ways, respected branding consultant and design community leader Debbie Millman has constructed a series of essays that examine the close relationship between design and everyday life. You'll find inspiration on every page as you meander through illuminating observations that are both personal and universal. Each beautifully illustrated essay reveals the magic - and wonder - of the often unseen world around us. Excerpt from "Look Both Ways" It occurred to me, as I stood there, that I could simultaneously, vividly look both ways - backward and forward, in time - at once. I remembered longing to know what was coming, who I would become and how. And I suddenly saw it all over again in front of me. The light was exactly the same, and as the sun fell and the summer shadows slivered against the elegant, lean, concrete towers in the distance, I recognized the smell of the warm air, the precise pink and grey of the coming dusk and the mysterious melancholy and joy of both knowing and not-knowing, and the continuity that occurs when both collide.—Debbie Millman

Book Life Goes Both Ways

Download or read book Life Goes Both Ways written by Willy Vil and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2024-08-05 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story Life Goes Both Ways is a true story that is about a twenty-year-old who just finished high school from abroad and moved to the USA without his mom, dad, and friends. Due to the speech impediment, life was too difficult for him. When he left, he made lots of commitments to his family. In the start, he felt that everything was going to be easy, to the point where he was going to maintain a reasonable life right away. Shortly, he discovered that things didn't work like that in the United States of America. Some types of items ought to be done sooner before you could get yourself situated. At foremost, he was living with his brother J, but things didn't work out nicely between the two of them. In a brief time in the country, he was out of his brother's home with no place to stay. Luckily, an elder companion of his promised him to stay in his place until he gets his life in order. Therefore, he jumped back and forth from position to position until he chose to go to school to construct some modifications in his life. He attempted to go to school, but it didn't work out for him. It wasn't until he met a professor who used to teach French at a university in Paris who showed him some methods about how to write essays in the English language. Ever since, he observed he was doing very well in school. He managed to get his associate's in business entrepreneurship but then quit going to college. After a few years, he met his wife, and they had three boys together and bought a house. Due to union obligations and taking care of the children, he couldn't afford to go back to school. His life was focused on the children's education and work. After the children graduated from college and had successful careers, he decided to go back to school to finish what he started. After fifty-plus years during COVID time, he went back to school and managed to graduate with honors. He went to Purdue University Global, where he got himself a degree in business administration. He was an exceptional student too. Information in the book showcased that life went both ways. At certain times in life, there would be no way out; other times; things would be floating smoothly. At first, the future didn't appear very good for the young man in this country. With hard work, commitment, and the support of a few good people, he managed to adjust certain things and, at last, create an exorbitant life for himself. Things were challenging at the beginning, but he turned a bunch of negative stuff into positive ones. Nevertheless, I think that we need good tutors to teach us about the facts of life. In that case, our parents are the ideal ones. After all, I believe very strongly that we should listen to our mom and dad more often because their words contain valuable lessons to teach us.

Book Creating Optimal Relationships

Download or read book Creating Optimal Relationships written by Kathryn Elliott and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2015-10-30 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent relationship science research finds that intense, satisfying romantic love is a real phenomenon occurring in couples. Creating Optimal Relationships: Use of the Voltage Concept with Couples provides the field of marriage and family therapy with the first model for assisting couples to sustain bliss for a lifetime. The voltage concept, based on over forty years of clinical research, uses a skills-based approach from Anthetic Relationship Therapy. By providing psychodynamic skills for facilitating each partner’s psychological growth, the psychological infrastructure is then achieved for supporting optimal relating skills. The voltage concept presents a useful dichotomy of closeness levels to which partners aspire. Couples who want a more surface relationship fit a Low-Voltage Relationship model marked by less emotional intensity. With such couples, minimal skills can be taught to reduce any conflict that brought them to therapy. High-Voltage couples desire great emotional depth and receive skills to help them achieve it. Perhaps even more valuable, the voltage vocabulary equips clinicians and partners in understanding a common source of couple conflict; that is, the voltage mismatch. The book offers options for treatment when a voltage discrepancy exists in the couple.

Book Heavenly Wisdom

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is exclusively written on the foundation of sacred books called Bible and on the experience of many good and great people, for man who was created for hard work, accordingly to its given gift calls talent. (1Co. 12:4) Which is precisely given accordingly to everybodys abilities. (1Co. 12:7). To do good work and to become son of living God (Jn. 15:15) and eventually on the end to become god, (Ps. 82:6) when come time to give its record and hear; well done my faithful son, enter into my rest. In this book it is not my intention to teach anyone but only to incite everyone to think about, to speak about and to recommend in order improving life for entire humanity independent, of race, color, ethnicity, languages or religion for everyone to become in agreement according to its given gift, which is powerful Spirit of love, what we call talent. It is not my idea that proves that, but myriad of humans as modern prophets that by their work witnessed for real life directed by the powerful Spirit of love call talent is only one way only one direction toward goodness for entire humanity, which pleases only One whom we call Great Creator. We may call it as universal secular religion or secular ideology as you wish which is universal and founded on free gift, given talent and responsibility while divine religion is religion of individuals gathered in the congregation founded on faith and obedience, while both are blessed with the power of love. It is true and is easy to understand that life that is directed by the given talent as a life purpose for the love toward One who sent you to do it and for devoted love for entire humanity as a fulfillment of first law to love your Great Creator and not only your neighbor but entire humanity to be like sun that shine from above for all and rain that comes for above for all as a HEAVENLY WISDOM An end I would like to hear from you about your opinion and suggestion in order to further improve that given program suggested from many and for goodness for entire humanity. Dr. Dragan P. Bogunovic MD FAAFP.
