Book excerpt: He was prepared for everything—except her. Nick Sawyer is a veteran of the Vietnam war who works in search and rescue with his dog Cisco, an Alaskan Malamute. Haunted by memories of war, the bitter, disillusioned man is convinced no woman would want a man incapable of loving or being loved. Annie Flynn, the new veterinarian in town, struggles to raise Jimmy, a difficult 12 year old foster child. Herself a product of the foster care system, Annie has learned to count on no one but herself. When she enlists Nick to train a stray mutt, cracks begin to form in the walls of her defenses. But the feelings that emerge are threatened by Nick’s inability to put the past behind him. Can a courageous Malamute help a belligerent boy who doesn’t feel safe anywhere in the world, a woman afraid to put her trust in anyone, a man scarred by conflict, and a mangy mutt unsure of everything and everyone, find their way into each other’s hearts to discover the love that binds?

Book excerpt: This work, published in 1768, when Swedenborg was eighty years of age, was the first of the author's theological works on the title of which his name appeared. It treats of the relation of the sexes; of the nature and origin of love truly conjugial and of its indissoluble nature; of the marriage of the Lord and the Church, and its correspondence; of the spiritual conjunction of partners in true marriage; of the change effected in both sexes by marriage; of the causes of disaffection, separations, and divorces; of the causes of apparent love, friendship, and favor in marriage; and of iterated marriages. To which is appended a treatise on Adulterous or Scortatory Love in its various degrees, showing it to be in its nature the very opposite of Conjugial Love.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This classic book, written 17 years ago but still selling more than 13,000 copies every year, has been completely updated and expanded by the author. "I used to drink," writes John Bradshaw,"to solve the problems caused by drinking. The more I drank to relieve my shame-based loneliness and hurt, the more I felt ashamed." Shame is the motivator behind our toxic behaviors: the compulsion, co-dependency, addiction and drive to superachieve that breaks down the family and destroys personal lives. This book has helped millions identify their personal shame, understand the underlying reasons for it, address these root causes and release themselves from the shame that binds them to their past failures.

Book The Syntax of Desire

Download or read book The Syntax of Desire written by Elena Lombardi and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2007-01-01 with total page 393 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In medieval culture, the consideration of language is deeply connected to other aspects of the system of knowledge. One interesting connection takes place between theories of language and theories of larger concepts such as love and desire. The Syntax of Desire is an interdisciplinary examination of the interlacing operation of syntax and desire in three medieval 'grammars:' theological, linguistic, and poetic. Exploring three representative aspects of medieval language theory, Elena Lombardi uncovers the ways in which syntax and desire were interrelated in the Middle Ages. She suggests that, in Augustine's theology, the creative act of God in the universe emerges as a syntax that the human individual must interpret by means of desire; in the linguistic theory of the Modistae, she sees the syntax of language as parallel to a syntax of reality, one organized by the desiring interplay of matter and form; in Dante's poetry, she argues that the language of the fallen human is bound together by the syntax of poetry, an act of desire that restores language to its primitive innocence. In addition to detailed analyses of medieval texts, The Syntax of Desire examines some aspects of the same relationship in light of contemporary linguistics, philosophy of language, and psychoanalysis.

Download or read book In This House We Will Giggle written by Courtney DeFeo and published by WaterBrook. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What do indoor picnics and funny face contests have to do with loving Jesus? More than you realize! As a mom in the throes of parenting, Courtney DeFeo believes that instilling virtues in children starts with laughter, not lecture. That perspective propelled her to create this idea-packed book, in which she offers motivating reflections, real-life stories, and a sandbox full of inventive ways to help you turn your kids’ hearts toward God. Each chapter focuses on one virtue that is key for developing your child’s character. Along with insights into how this virtue plays out in the nitty-gritty of life, Courtney includes a memory verse, activity ideas, and discussion questions to reinforce that virtue throughout the month. Here you’ll find a full year of ways to draw your children closer to God through delightful antics like Family Olympics, One Fancy Feast, and Light ’Em Up. In This House, We Will Giggle shows you how to capture the hearts of your children through fun—so that they experience the goodness of Christ, the joy of following Him, and the difference they can make in the lives of others. Book Noah And The Tie That Binds

    Book Details:
  • Author : James Dowell

  • ISBN : 1635256550

Download or read book Noah And The Tie That Binds written by James Dowell and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 790 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Bible, the Lord tells us the story of Noah, "a righteous man, blameless in his time; Noah walked with God." Have you ever wondered what that time may have been like? What could have caused the Lord to grieve in his heart and to destroy the world he had created? How! How can any family go through an ordeal like that? We all know the answer, that is, at least we do on the surface. It is only by walking closely with the Lord. But if you want to explore the possibilities and pry open the lives between the verses given to us in Genesis, then I invite you to read about Noah and his life. Open your heart to a man who has hopes and dreams, who has blessings and trials from the Lord. And then has to change his way of life to do the Lord's bidding. Learn more of the walk Noah had with God and how the Lord's ways, his purpose, intertwine in our lives and how we are bound to him in faith, hope, and love. Learn how the world of Noah's time was not really that much different from ours. They were selling and buying and making plans for the future. And it is a time of apostasy; men seek everything but God-except for those who seek the Lord and seek his paths. In Noah's day, there were people eating and drinking and making merry. They are giving in marriage and are about their work in the fields and in the cities. So come and read between the verses of the Word of the Lord! Learn more of the possibilities of the life of Noah, his wife, and their children. Open your soul to the Lord and seek his face by exploring the possible walk that a family had with the Lord of creation. See how the Tie-That-Binds is still very much relevant in our lives today.
