Book American Wife

Download or read book American Wife written by Taya Kyle and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2015-05-04 with total page 262 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The widow of “American Sniper” Chris Kyle shares their private story: an unforgettable testament to the power of love and faith in the face of war and unimaginable loss--and a moving tribute to a man whose true heroism ran even deeper than the legend. In early 2013, Taya Kyle and her husband Chris were the happiest they ever had been. Their decade-long marriage had survived years of war that took Chris, a U.S. Navy SEAL, away from Taya and their two children for agonizingly long stretches while he put his life on the line in many major battles of the Iraq War. After struggling to readjust to life out of the military, Chris had found new purpose in redirecting his lifelong dedication to service to supporting veterans and their families. Their love had deepened, and, most special of all, their family was whole, finally. Then, the unthinkable. On February 2, 2013, Chris and his friend Chad Littlefield were killed while attempting to help a troubled vet. The life Chris and Taya fought so hard to build together was shattered. In an instant, Taya became a single parent of two. A widow. A young woman facing the rest of her life without the man she loved. Chris and Taya’s remarkable story has captivated millions through Clint Eastwood’s blockbuster, Academy Award-winning film American Sniper, starring Bradley Cooper as Chris and Sienna Miller as Taya, and because of Chris’s bestselling memoir, in which Taya contributed passages that formed the book’s emotional core. Now, with trusted collaborator Jim DeFelice, Taya writes in never-before-told detail about the hours, days, and months after his shocking death when grief threatened to overwhelm her. Then there were wearying battles to protect her husband’s legacy and reputation. And yet throughout, friendship, family, and a deepening faith were lifelines that sustained her and the kids when the sorrow became too much. Two years after her husband’s tragic death, Taya has found renewed meaning and connection to Chris by advancing their shared mission of “serving those who serve others,” particularly military and first-responder families. She and the children now are embracing a new future, one that honors the past but also looks forward with hope, gratitude, and joy. American Wife is one of the most remarkable memoirs of the year -- a universal chronicle of love and heartbreak, service and sacrifice, faith and purpose that will inspire every reader.

Book Dusk Night Dawn

Download or read book Dusk Night Dawn written by Anne Lamott and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Anne Lamott is my Oprah.” -Chicago Tribune From the bestselling author of Help, Thanks, Wow comes an inspiring guide to restoring hope and joy in our lives. In Dusk, Night, Dawn, Anne Lamott explores the tough questions that many of us grapple with. How can we recapture the confidence we once had as we stumble through the dark times that seem increasingly bleak? As bad newspiles up—from climate crises to daily assaults on civility—how can we cope? Where, she asks, “do we start to get our world and joy and hope and our faith in life itself back . . . with our sore feet, hearing loss, stiff fingers, poor digestion, stunned minds, broken hearts?” We begin, Lamott says, by accepting our flaws and embracing our humanity. Drawing from her own experiences, Lamott shows us the intimate and human ways we can adopt to move through life’s dark places and toward the light of hope that still burns ahead for all of us. As she does in Help, Thanks, Wow and her other bestselling books, Lamott explores the thorny issues of life and faith by breaking them down into manageable, human-sized questions for readers to ponder, in the process showing us how we can amplify life's small moments of joy by staying open to love and connection. As Lamott notes in Dusk, Night, Dawn, “I got Medicare three days before I got hitched, which sounds like something an old person might do, which does not describe adorably ageless me.” Marrying for the first time with a grown son and a grandson, Lamott explains that finding happiness with a partner isn't a function of age or beauty but of outlook and perspective. Full of the honesty, humor, and humanity that have made Lamott beloved by millions of readers, Dusk, Night, Dawn is classic Anne Lamott—thoughtful and comic, warm and wise—and further proof that Lamott truly speaks to the better angels in all of us.

Book Cultivating Love and Renewal in Your Life and in Your Marriage

Download or read book Cultivating Love and Renewal in Your Life and in Your Marriage written by Ken Mcgill and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2014-08-07 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cultivating Love Renewal is the first of five books in the Cultivating Love series, where the theme is to help couples recover and rebuild their relationship after discovering unfaithfulness. Cultivating Love Renewal is for couples who have decided they wish to rebuild their relationship, and this workbook provides the couple with practical, effective and clinical "tools" to assist them in their process of defining and growing healthy, safe and edifying behaviors that will produce love, and strengthen and protect their marriage. In addition to the discipline of Theology, Cultivating Love Renewal also integrates "treatment" materials from the disciplines of psychology, addiction, as well as 12 Step recovery principles, so that as you work through the "Process Point" exercises, you'll be able to holistically identify necessary and salient "ingredients" that speak to your life and could be a part of your overall growth and marital strengthening process. So why is this workbook called Cultivating Love? Because I continue to be amazed regarding how God helps us to grasp and understand supernatural concepts as we study the natural environment that we live in. One such concept is the word and process called Phytoremediation, a crucial term in the process of cultivating love. Phytoremediation is an environmentally sound technology (EST), in which plants are used to remove, detoxify, or immobilize environmental contaminants that are in the soil and in the water. Plants belonging to the Cruciferae family work the best, and these particular plants are named and are a part of this family because they have a corolla of four petals, arranged like a cross. Theologically, I am reminded of what is written in the New Testament Book of James 1:21 - "Humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you." What I interpret from this is, if we "plant" or integrate the words, some which come from the theological, psychological, addiction and 12 Step domains, into our minds (I remind the reader we came from and will return to the soil - Genesis 3:19), then we give ourselves the opportunity to remediate or heal the mind, soul and spirit of ourselves, and if the right "seeds" are planted within us, we give ourselves the opportunity to grow healthy values and different outcomes in the "micro-seasons" of our lives. If you wish to grow love in your life, then you are encouraged to focus on planting "seeds" or characteristics that will one day mature into the behavior that is called Love. Even though there is great profundity with God, the process of cultivating love is as simple as this. Cultivating Love Renewal and all of the books in the Cultivating Love series are great resources for individuals, couples, people who are challenged with addictive behaviors as well as for Counselors, Pastors, Pastoral Counselors, Clinical Interns and Clinicians. Other books in the Cultivating Love series are: 1. Enhancing Communication: Effective communication tools to facilitate dialogue, empowerment and conflict resolution. This is a staple in my counseling practice. 2. Finishing Strong: 26.2 exercises to address compulsive sexual behavior, for individual use or to be used in groups. 3. When Secrets Surface: An in depth exploration of how to deal with the discovery of unfaithfulness, with insight and practical exercises to help you make safe, informed and healthy choices regarding what direction you wish to take with your relationship. 4. Growing Character: Identifying, exploring and cultivating values that help you to determine how you wish to live your life. Thank you for your consideration of the Cultivating Love book series, and Cultivating Love Renewal. Dr. Ken McGill, LMFT Certified Sex Addiction Therapist

Book All Things New

  • Pages : 239 pages

Download or read book All Things New written by John Eldredge and published by Thomas Nelson. This book was released on 2017-09-26 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author John Eldredge offers readers a breathtaking look into God’s promise for a new heaven and a new earth. This revolutionary book about our future is based on the simple idea that, according to the Bible, heaven is not our eternal home--the New Earth is. As Jesus says in the gospel of Matthew, the next chapter of our story begins with "the renewal of all things," by which he means the earth we love in all its beauty, our own selves, and the things that make for a rich life: music, art, food, laughter and all that we hold dear. Everything shall be renewed "when the world is made new." More than anything else, how you envision your future shapes your current experience. If you knew that God was going to restore your life and everything you love any day; if you believed a great and glorious goodness was coming to you--not in a vague heaven but right here on this earth--you would have a hope to see you through anything, an anchor for your soul, "an unbreakable spiritual lifeline, reaching past all appearances right to the very presence of God" (Hebrews 6:19). Most Christians (most people for that matter) fail to look forward to their future because their view of heaven is vague, religious, and frankly boring. Hope begins when we understand that for the believer nothing is lost. Heaven is not a life in the clouds; it is not endless harp-strumming or worship-singing. Rather, the life we long for, the paradise Adam and Eve knew, is precisely the life that is coming to us. And that life is coming soon.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A deeply personal landscape of revelation and loss that guides the reader toward catharsis." -- M. "Breathtaking." -- R. "These are some of the most beautiful poems I have ever read. I find myself reading them aloud, and I pause after each line. They resonate as when water droplets drop into water, outwards then inwards. I am crying right now." -- T. A few months after my mother died, I changed my name to Elyria. It was a rite of passage suggested by a dear friend who had lost a parent some years earlier. I wish my mother could read these poems. I know some of them would have made her cry, and sometimes that would have been what she needed. But more than that, I want you to read these poems. I know some of them will make you cry, and sometimes that will be what you need. I want you to read them, remember how to heal, learn to live with the hurts and the losses you carry -- take a deep breath -- and go on living. We are all alone in our grief, sometimes. But other times, we can take comfort in sharing our sorrow with those who understand loss. We come away stronger for it. That is my hope for you. all my love, Elyria

Book The Couple s Guide to Intimacy

Download or read book The Couple s Guide to Intimacy written by Bill Bercaw and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As psychologists specializing in treating sex addiction, our jobs require us to work closely with people whose lives have fallen apart. Not all couples choose to rebuild, and that is always a very personal decision. This book is for those who do, and then often find themselves wondering, "How can we have a healthy sex life after sex addiction?" We have answered this question by developing Sexual Reintegration Therapy(SRT). If you have a vision for a better relationship, SRT gives you the plan. Even if you cannot see clearly how your wounded relationship can be healed, SRT will offer you that hope. SRT consists of a progressive series of clearly defined experiences (that we have been using successfully with our clients for years) that will help you address core intimacy issues that need upgrading. The lack of a structured program to promote healthy sexuality after sexual addiction has been a major source of frustration for many couples. It is also why so many of our professional colleagues, including Dr. Patrick Carnes, have been urging us to publish this book. A man who was nearing the end of the SRT program with his wife summed up his experience this way: "This program has been more helpful to us than anything else we've tried. We knew what we wanted- we just needed a plan that could get us there."
