Download or read book Crushin Candy written by Maddison Cole and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2021-09-23 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: So damn sweet, I cause cavities. S'up? I'm Candy. Excuse the name. The old walking womb was a stripper back in her prime and I was a client gone wrong. She thought after years of group homes and rejection, I'd run back into her arms and join the family business. No thanks. The only circles I run in are the ones my bubblegum bubbles make. Don't worry about my teeth though, sugar-free as always. I'm not a complete psycho. Oh except for my passive-aggressive, potty-mouthed, imaginary best friend who happens to be a gummy bear. That part is pretty nuts. I was thoroughly enjoying myself, doing whatever the hell I wanted until a group of model-worthy bikers try to muscle in on my heist. They don't seem to realise those with barely any personal belongings tend to grow protective of what's theirs, and by taking one of my beloved possessions, they've signed their own death warrants. Fooling them with my sickly sweet smile, I'll slip past their defences and claim back what's rightfully mine, no matter the cost. Despite how hard they try, I won't be deterred from my new mission. Putting bullies back in their place when no one else can. I've got you in my sights now boys, and no one screws over Candy Crystal twice. P.S, yeah, the stripper name game is on point. Trigger Warning: This is book one of the I Love Candy series, featuring a feisty female lead. Candy is spontaneous, impulsive and reckless, which makes this book inappropriate for under 18's. She gives as good as she gets, causing chaos and leaves you wondering who is bullying who! Expect excessive amounts of steam, violence and cursing throughout. This series is a RH trilogy with a HEA...eventually.

Book excerpt: The “fascinating” true story behind the HBO Max and Hulu series about Texas housewife Candy Montgomery and the bizarre murder that shocked a community (Los Angeles Times Book Review). Candy Montgomery and Betty Gore had a lot in common: They sang together in the Methodist church choir, their daughters were best friends, and their husbands had good jobs working for technology companies in the north Dallas suburbs known as Silicon Prairie. But beneath the placid surface of their seemingly perfect lives, both women simmered with unspoken frustrations and unanswered desires. On a hot summer day in 1980, the secret passions and jealousies that linked Candy and Betty exploded into murderous rage. What happened next is usually the stuff of fiction. But the bizarre and terrible act of violence that occurred in Betty’s utility room that morning was all too real. Based on exclusive interviews with the Gore and Montgomery families, Edgar Award finalist Evidence of Love is the “superbly written” account of a gruesome tragedy and the trial that made national headlines when the defendant entered the most unexpected of pleas: not guilty by reason of self-defense (Fort Worth Star-Telegram). Adapted into the Emmy and Golden Globe Award–winning television movie A Killing in a Small Town—as well as the new limited series Candy on Hulu and Love and Death on HBO Max—this chilling tale of sin and savagery will “fascinate true crime aficionados” (Kirkus Reviews).

  • ISBN : 1760638218
  • Pages : 336 pages

Download or read book Candy written by Luke Davies and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2006-05-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There were good times and bad times, but in the beginning there were more good times. When I first met Candy those were the days of juice, when everything was bountiful. Only much later did it all start to seem like sugar and blood, blood and sugar...It's like you're cruising along in a beautiful car on a pleasant country road with the breeze in your hair and the smell of eucalyptus all around you. The horizon is always up there ahead, unfolding towards you, and at first you don't notice the gradual descent, or the way the atmosphere thickens. Bit by bit the gradient gets steeper, and before you realise you have no brakes, you're going pretty fucking fast.' Candy is a love story. It is also a novel about addiction. From the heady narcissism of the narrator's first days with his new lover, Candy, and the relative innocence of their shared habit, Candy charts their decline. Candy becomes a prostitute, the narrator becomes a scam artist, and smack becomes the total and only focus of their lives. But this is not just another junkie novel: Davies is a very fine writer and Candy is confronting, painful, sexy, tender and at times darkly hilarious. A remarkable novel.

Book excerpt: Love and Candy is a poignant New Adult/Young Adult romance that doesn't shy away from the gritty details and overwrought emotion of a young woman's coming of age. Samantha Montclare is not who she thought she was. Straitlaced and academically minded, she's knocked to her knees by an unexpected infatuation with the star of her local soccer team just as she discovers that her biological father is not the loving dad who raised her but a forbidding Italian aristocrat. Within the social hierarchy of a wealthy suburban high school, Delaney Troy is so superior to naive Samantha that she can't speak to him without provoking obscene taunts from his friends. Delaney is gorgeous, but much of Samantha's fascination stems from his brazen honesty and bristling wit. His air of confidence inspires so powerful an interest he draws her in without even looking at her. But how could she possibly date a guy like Delaney who insists he only wants to hook up -- and doesn't believe in love? Will the scandalous truth about the circumstances of her conception threaten her happy home life? Must she find a place in her life for an alarming new "father" just as she's becoming an independent young woman? Reviews of LOVE and CANDY: "A sweet, humorous and endearing coming of age story. Really something special!" "Praise for Elizabeth Famous and this beautifully written and refreshingly unique coming of age story! It made me feel a plethora of emotions...borderline bipolar (and I loved every moment of it)." "Well, I truly enjoyed it but was also greatly surprised (in a good way)."

Book excerpt: Along with thousands of other women in the '60s, Candy was swept along by the women's movement, unprepared for the attack on everything she believed to be true as she entered a small teachers' college in the mountains of North Carolina in the fall of 1961. The feminist rhetoric sounded good yet pitted her against the very nature of men-their masculinity and the desire to provide for her and protect her. "I can take care of myself," she defiantly proclaimed. Reaping the lies of the sexual revolution and a failed marriage, wounded and broken, Candy found herself alone with two children to raise, carrying a dark secret of shame and regret. When Candy found the answer to her heart's cry to be truly liberated- and to be loved unconditionally and unreservedly-she also found healing and deliverance out of the lies she had believed for so many years. Finally, she was able to love, respect, and honor one special and imperfect man, the man who finally found her and pledged his love to her and her two children. This is a story of overcoming the past, of restoration and redemption, and of finding the truth that sets us all free.

Book excerpt: "Candy is beside me, drenched in sweat. She's breathing gently, long slow breaths. I imagine her soul going in and out: wanting to leave, wanting to come back, wanting to leave, wanting to come back. The day will soon harden into what we need to do. But for now we have each other. . . ." He met Candy amid a lush Sydney summer. Gorgeous, sexy, free-spirited Candy. They fell in love fast, lots of laughter and lust, the days melting warmly into each other. He never planned to give her a habit. But she wanted a taste. And wasn't love, after all, about sharing lives? Candy had a bit of money and in the beginning, everything was beautiful. Heady, heroin-hazed days, the world open and inviting. But when the money ran out, the craving remained, and the days ceased their luxurious stretch. But there was still love. Only now, it was a threesome. Heroin had its own demands, its own timetable, and thoughts of nabbing the next fix hurled them into each day. Then, when desperation sets in, Candy will stop at nothing to secure a blast, as she and her lover become hostage to the nightmarish world of addiction. Painful, sexy, tender, and charged with dark humor, Candy provocatively charts the daily rituals of two lovers maintaining a long-term junk habit. Told in stunningly vivid prose and set against the backdrop of suburban and urban Australia, Candy is both an electrifying and frightening glimpse of contemporary life and love.

Book A Candy for All Seasons

Download or read book A Candy for All Seasons written by Lisame! and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2009-09 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When I was just a little girl, I began to hear about Jesus. I learned wonderful songs of how he walks with me and talks with me along life's narrow way. And how to Trust and Obey for there is no other way. And a little light that was 'mine' I was supposed to let it shine. As I began to grow up I had many questions in my heart. I loved Jesus there was no question of that. But I never really understood how He could walk with me and talk with me, or what it meant to truly trust and obey. And I was not sure at all about having a light that would shine. God used candy to help teach me the answers to many of these questions. He became real to me through the years of seeking Him, in how to share Him with others, so they could truly know Him and experience Him, without pretence. I invite you into the world of A Candy Ministry where candy becomes the focal point. (Candy is a non-threatening (focal point/subject) to begin sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others). Where candy is coded not coated so it melts in your heart not your hands. You will experience messages that will speak to the nature of the heart of the child inside of you, no matter your age. This touch, taste, and feel ministry is brought to you with the hope that you will have a better understanding of God and His love for you. I pray as you read this book that you will experience "life changes". We experience trials of many kinds and need support and encouragement as we go through them. Candy messages offer a new way to look at things based on God's word.

Book Passionate Friendship

Download or read book Passionate Friendship written by Deborah M. Shamoon and published by University of Hawaii Press. This book was released on 2012-03-13 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shojo manga are romance comics for teenage girls. Characterized by a very dense visual style, featuring flowery backgrounds and big-eyed, androgynous boys and girls, it is an extremely popular and prominent genre in Japan. Why is this genre so appealing? Where did it come from? Why do so many of the stories feature androgynous characters and homosexual romance? Passionate Friendship answers these questions by reviewing Japanese girls’ print culture from its origins in 1920s and 1930s girls’ literary magazines to the 1970s “revolution” shojo manga, when young women artists took over the genre. It looks at the narrative and aesthetic features of girls’ literature and illustration across the twentieth century, both pre- and postwar, and discusses how these texts addressed and formed a reading community of girls, even as they were informed by competing political and social ideologies. The author traces the development of girls’ culture in pre–World War II magazines and links it to postwar teenage girls’ comics and popular culture. Within this culture, as private and cloistered as the schools most readers attended, a discourse of girlhood arose that avoided heterosexual romance in favor of “S relationships,” passionate friendships between girls. This preference for homogeneity is echoed in the postwar genre of boys’ love manga written for girls. Both prewar S relationships and postwar boys’ love stories gave girls a protected space to develop and explore their identities and sexuality apart from the pressures of a patriarchal society. Shojo manga offered to a reading community of girls a place to share the difficulties of adolescence as well as an alternative to the image of girls purveyed by the media to boys and men. Passionate Friendship’s close literary and visual analysis of modern Japanese girls’ culture will appeal to a wide range of readers, including scholars and students of Japanese studies, gender studies, and popular culture.
