Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many map users have wondered why Portugal, sharing with Spain the Iberian Peninsula, ever became a separate nation. That question is answered with remarkable clarity by Dan Stanislawski. This book also presents an analysis of the factors that produce separate nations and offers a study of the evolution of national cultures generally, especially as they apply to Portugal.

This book was released on 2008-04-16 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book The Soils of Spain written by Juan F. Gallardo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-23 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides the reader with a comprehensive overview of the soils of Spain gathered by a variety of Spanish experts in the field. It presents soils in this country as particularly conditioned by the naturally diverse and drastic distribution of the Spanish landscape, characterized by mountainous ranges in the North, and arid areas in the South and the East. The first chapter sets the agricultural scenario in Spain as influenced by the Arabic culture and American agricultural products; the second chapter provides a classification and distribution of Spanish soils; the third chapter approaches the topic of soils in the characteristically humid Northern Iberia area as prone to diversity and soil evolution; the fourth focuses on the soils of the South and East of Spain as affected by lack of rainfall and abundance in calcic soil horizons; the fifth chapter deals with Mediterranean soils, having as a particular characteristic the dominance of red colors; and the last chapter discusses the challenges and future issues of Spanish soils.
Download or read book The Romanization of Central Spain written by Leonard A. Curchin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2004-05-05 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Curchin explores how, why and to what extent the peoples of Central Spain were integrated into the Roman Empire during the period from the second century BC to the second century AD. He approaches the question from a variety of angles, including the social, economic, religious and material experiences of the inhabitants as they adjusted to change, the mechanisms by which they adopted new structures and values, and the power relations between Rome and the provincials. The book also considers the peculiar cultural features of Central Spain, which made its Romanization so distinctive.

This book was released on 2003 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Early-Middle Neolithic period in northeast Spain was a period of considerable change. Through statistical analysis of four burial sites, examination of associated grave goods and use-wear analysis of stone artefacts from the graves, the author aims to reconstruct aspects of the socio-economic organisation of the people who inhabited these sites. Flint was shown to be an important part of funerary ritual and inferences are made on links between tools and the age and sex of the individual interred, and their relationship to other types of grave goods. Spanish text; short French and English abstract.

Download or read book The Birds of the Iberian Peninsula written by Eduardo de Juana and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-02-26 with total page 721 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This authoritative title is the definitive avifauna covering the Iberian Peninsula. The Iberian Peninsula is one of Europe's most ornithologically varied regions offering a host of regional specialities. It includes famous birding hotspots such as the Coto Donaña wetlands, mountainous areas such as the Picos de Europa and the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean cork and holm oak forests of the southwest, the migration crossroads of the Strait of Gibraltar and the steppe-like plains of Extremadura and Alentejo. Large numbers of birders from around Europe visit the region to see this wealth of winged wildlife, but to date there has been no comprehensive regional avifauna in English. Birds of the Iberian Peninsula is a national avifauna that fills this gap in the ornithological literature. Full-colour throughout, the book begins with authoritative introductory chapters covering subjects such as geography, climate, habitats, the history of Iberian ornithology and the composition of the avifauna. The species accounts then cover every species recorded in mainland Spain, the Balearic Islands, Portugal, Gibraltar and Andorra, including the many vagrants. For each species there is detailed treatment of distribution – with maps of breeding and wintering ranges – habitat selection, population trends, historical and current status, migration and conservation.
