Download or read book The Making of the Bibles Moralis es Volume I The Manuscripts written by and published by Penn State Press. This book was released on with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Bibles Moralisées are by far the richest and most complex attempt at biblical illustration ever undertaken. Seven of them survive today, made primarily for the kings and queens of France between the early thirteenth and late fifteenth centuries. John Lowden's pioneering two-volume study brings new material to light and offers a wholly new approach to understanding the Bibles, which contain literally thousands of figures. Volume I, based on exhaustive codicological analysis, considers the making and the later history of use of each of the manuscripts. Volume II investigates in detail the treatment of one portion of the Bible, the Book of Ruth, in all the manuscripts. Discussion is supported by many new photographs in color and black and white. Together the two volumes challenge conventional wisdom about both the Bibles Moralisées and the relationship of word and image in medieval culture.

Download or read book Lies Mentiras written by Agustin S. Contin and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2014-08-12 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most important lies about Catholicism are refuted in this book – not by the author – but by the Bible and the Gospels! For centuries, the Catholic Church has been teaching lies to its followers. Catholic clergymen pretend to be “representatives of God,” having the power to forgive the sins of other men during confession. They claim to be able to transform the host, providing wafers and wine to represent the body and blood of Jesus Christ, and the faithful eat and drink it as cannibals. Priests say their mass is a repetition of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, when Jesus died and resurrected almost 2,000 years ago. Yet God forbids us to communicate with dead people, so why would the church want Catholics to accept the great number of “saints” and “virgins” who are dead people? It is time these lies are exposed and that true Christians learn to depend on the words of the Bible, not the words of priests. Remember, The Bible never lies!

Book excerpt: ESTA ES UNA NOVELA, DE COMPLETA FANTASÍA, BASADA EN COSAS QUE PUEDEN SER POSIBLES Y PUEDEN OCURRIR EN LA VIDA REAL, SE DESARROLLA EN EL ESTADO DE JALISCO EN MEXICO.

Download or read book Pesharim written by Maurya P. Horgan and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-12-11 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Among the Hebrew documents recovered from the Qumran caves are eighteen texts distinguished by the fact that each is a continuous commentary on or an interpretation of a single biblical book. These texts are called pesharim because each section of interpretation following a biblical citation is introduced by one of several formulas using the word pēser, "interpretation" (plural: pĕsārim). The documents that are extant preserve portions of commentaries on the book of Psalms and on the prophetic books of Isaiah, Hosea, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah. The monograph presents the Hebrew texts of the pesharim, an English translation, and notes on the texts that cover features of the Hebrew language in these scrolls, suggested restorations of lacunae, and possible connections of the content of the commentary sections to historical events. Following the presentation of the texts is a discussion of the literary genre of pesher, treating the structure of the documents, the formulas employed, the modes of interpretation, and the relation of the pesharim to some other writings.
