When Suzanne Mullins, forty-two, gets the call from her father to come back home to Texas because her mother has gone off the deep end, she knows it will mean having to look at the faulty foundations of their marriage as well as her own. Betty Lynne has always upheld a perfect facade of home and family, and Suzanne has followed suit. But her life with husband Mike and son Oliver is cracking under the pressure of its own unspoken history. Looking her past in the eye once and for all, Suzanne hopes that trusting in God’s love and mercy will set all of this craziness straight—even if it does mean having to watch her father give the eulogy at his own funeral. Book excerpt: Dottie Meyers, 35, is a real-life Dorothy Gale living with her little black dog on a small farm in Kansas that’s about to be hit by a tornado. Knocked unconscious by the storm, she awakes three months later at a recovery facility in California where her father, last seen when she was four, has left her a mysterious pair of ruby slippers. But unlike The Wizard of Oz, this isn’t a dream, and the yellow brick road journey that Dottie and three friends are about to take from Los Angeles to Seattle in search of her dad will show the realities of a broken childhood. More importantly, everything connected to those sparkling red shoes will prove to Dottie that there’s only one true wonder worker behind the so-called curtain who can heal her wounds and prepare the heart for love.

The story centers on the fate of twin adolescent boys and their victimization arising from a dysfunctional domestic environment, the murder of their mother in an episode of domestic violence, and the subsequent involvement of the daughter of the district court judge whose duplicitous mentoring serves her own dark agenda at the expense of the twins' welfare and emotional needs.

  • Author : Ted Riddle
  • Publisher : Page Publishing Inc
  • Release : 2019-08-30

  • Pages : 322 pages

Download or read book No Lookin Back written by Ted Riddle and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: No Looking Back was brought to life early one Sunday morning in Tonkawa, Oklahoma, where the author's Ted and Linda Riddle lived. Ted Sat straight up in bed and said, "I know how I died." That startled Linda, who was asleep next to him. His story flowed in such a way, it brought tears and laughter to her. She grabbed a yellow tablet and pencil and began writing. He did not slow down, so she could catch up. Soon she found a tape recorder and began recording this saga. Linda knew that this was not a dream. The tone of his voice was different and even the dialogue was strange, as Ted continued well into the morning. Later, when they both realized that this "gift", had to be published, Ted asked Linda to "add the sunsets and the eagles flying." She went to libraries as they traveled, even to Alaska twice, with their work and researched for facts for the book. She took pictures of locations where the story took place and drew illustrations. Names of their family members and friends were added, as the story developed. The story begins during the Civil War, when Thomas Summers and his brother John, join the Union Army. As Ted continues with his tale, he even knows the name of his wife, children, places and events. He knows how he died, so that is the first chapter in the book. The journey takes Tom and the reader through many life-threatening adventures, at every turn. Based on facts from Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma Territory, Texas, Kansas and Colorado, and a timeline of early western history, you feel that you are living each moment. There has never been a time or place like the early American West. Freedom was the quest of all who sought her.
