Book Long range Oil and Gas Forecasting Methodologies

Download or read book Long range Oil and Gas Forecasting Methodologies written by and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Performance of long-range energy system analyses requires the capability to project conventional domestic oil and gas supplies in the long term. The objective of the Long-range Forecasting Methodology project is to formulate an approach to this problem which will be compatible with the principal tool employed by the Energy Information Administration of the Department of Energy for long-range energy system analyses, the Long-term Energy Analysis Package (LEAP). This paper reports on projection methodologies that have appeared in the literature, evaluates them in terms of their applicability to the LEAP framework, and discusses the principal determinants of conventional domestic oil and gas supply in the long run.

Book Oil gas Supply Modeling Considerations in Long range Forecasting Use of LEAP

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Oil- and gas-supply modeling may not only generate forecasts on a stand-alone basis, but may provide input data and assumptions to large-scale, long-range integrated energy economy models. In such a framework, parameters that may not have seemed especially crucial in the stand-alone formulation may be found to have an unexpectedly great influence on the results. Additionally, it may become necessary to incorporate considerations that are usually omitted from conventional oil- and gas-supply models; this paper discusses two such examples: the decline rate, or more generally the production profile, and the treatment of resource exhaustion. This investigation arose in connection with a project for the Energy Information Administration (EIA). One part of the project was to incorporate the assumptions and input data of EIA's Midterm Oil and Gas Modeling System (MOGSMS) into EIA's Long-Term Energy-Analysis Program (LEAP). Two important areas for oil- and gas-supply model development and data collection are representation of the decline rate or production schedule from reserves, and the treatment of resource depletion including the subeconomic resource base and enhanced recovery. Both aspects receive relatively little attention in oil- and gas-supply models, but play key roles when the assumptions of these models are integrated into a long-term model such as LEAP.

Book Computing Risk for Oil Prospects Principles and Programs

Download or read book Computing Risk for Oil Prospects Principles and Programs written by J.W. Harbaugh and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1995-11-22 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The petroleum industry is enduring difficult financial times because of the continuing depressed price of crude oil on the world market. This has caused major corporate restructuring and reductions in staff throughout the industry. Because oil exploration must now be done with fewer people under more difficult economic constraints, it is essential that the most effective and efficient procedures be used. Computing Risk for Oil Prospects describes how prospect risk assessment — predicting the distribution of financial gains or losses that may result from the drilling of an exploration well — can be done using objective procedures implemented on personal computers. The procedures include analyses of historical data, interpretation of geological and geophysical data, and financial calculations to yield a spectrum of the possible consequences of decisions. All aspects of petroleum risk assessment are covered, from evaluating regional resources, through delineating an individual prospect, to calculation of the financial consequences of alternative decisions and their possible results. The bottom lines are given both in terms of the probable volumes of oil that may be discovered and the expected monetary returns. Statistical procedures are linked with computer mapping and interpretation algorithms, which feed their results directly into routines for financial analysis. The programs in the included library of computer programs are tailored to fit seamlessly together, and are designed for ease and simplicity of operation. The two diskettes supplied are IBM compatible. Full information on loading is given in Appendix A - Software Installation. Risk I diskette contains data files and executables and Risk 2 diskette contains only executables. The authors contend that the explorationist who develops a prospect should be involved in every facet of its analysis, including risk and financial assessments. This book provides the tools necessary for these tasks.

Book A Guide to Energy Forecasting

Download or read book A Guide to Energy Forecasting written by Graham Duxbury and published by Troubador Publishing Ltd. This book was released on 2017-09-26 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the purposes, methodologies, modelling techniques and weaknesses in energy forecasting. It provides a rare appraisal of what is generally known as the ‘end use sector’ approach to global demand forecasting. It exposes the fallibilities that are hidden in the seductive power point presentations of forecasters and the false sense of accuracy bestowed upon them. It nevertheless stresses that forecasting remains crucial and of value to the industry. By raising awareness of the forecasting risks and the often ‘smoke and mirrors’ nature of the exercise as well as offering commentary on how the process and use of forecasts could be improved, although not necessarily the accuracy, this book is must-read for those in government, corporate planning and financing sectors of the energy industry who rely on forecasts to make policy, investment and trading decisions.
