Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now a Hallmark Hall of Fame special, "When Love is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story, " this is the biography of Al-Anon creator and wife of AA cofounder Bill W. Lois Wilson, the wife of Alcoholics Anonymous cofounder Bill W., knew better than anyone that families, friends, and loved ones of alcoholics are also affected and need informed support and advice. The Lois Wilson Story: When Love Is Not Enough is both a testament to Wilson's spirit and a guiding light for those whose lives parallel hers."Bill Borchert came into my life during our astounding screen collaboration in My Name is Bill W. What a joy to revisit this friendship in his new achievement, The Lois Wilson Story. Bill Borchert will always be a seminal part of my life and now millions of others will get to appreciate his selfless devotion to the woman who founded Al-Anon and her mesmerizing story. Bravo, my friend." Emmy A ward-winning actor (My Name is Bill W.) James Woods"Bill Borchert shares the intimate recollections of Lois Wilson in an authentic and powerful tale of helplessness, hope, and fulfillment. This view of Lois' life with Bill Wilson and the birth and nurturing of the Twelve Step movement is awesome and rewarding. It is a page-turning read and a tribute to Lois, cofounder of Al-Anon, and her passion to bring healing to everyone affected by the family disease of alcoholism." -Johnny Allen, President/CEO, The Johnson Institute"The story that would complement that of Bill W's had yet to be written. And now, William Borchert has done the job. Borchert begins his book with an easy-flowing, active tense, almost fictional style that keeps you riveted on Lois and her love story. It's well done. I'll be reading and utilizing for research the Borchert story for many years." Dick B. (a pseudonym) Writer, Historian, retired Attorney, Author of 25 published titles on the history and spiritual roots of A.A.

Book excerpt: How should your community respond when an organized group known for spreading hatred of others announces it wants to build a training camp in your town? It is a big question that ten-year old Lois must consider when it happens in her town where her Father is a respected minister. Based on a true story that happened in Southbury, CT in 1937, the story begins with members of the German American Bund, an American organization based on the teachings of Adolph Hitler, confronting Lois's father to try to convince him to support the building of a large camp on private land. Lois understands that her Father is conflicted. With her encouragement, she convinces him that he should preach about this to his congregants the next Sunday. This sets in motion events that result in the peaceful termination of the plans for building the training camp. The book comes with an introduction for Parents and Teachers to help put this story in context. In addition, the moving illustrations by Betty Ann Medeiros help the reader understand the world Lois finds herself in November 1937.The author, Ed Edelson, was First Selectman (Mayor) of Southbury from 2011 through 2015. Along with Rabbi Eric Polokoff and Reverend Shannon Wall, they revived the story through the production of a documentary film that has resonated with adults and older children. Ed was convinced that a younger audience needed to learn the important lessons that can be gleaned from the real events. This book is the result of what he learned from both the oral and written history developed as part of making and screening the documentary film. The film was first shown in 2012 to commemorate the 75th anniversary. The Southbury story became part of an important exhibit at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Book excerpt: The two-time Newbery medalist has crafted “a loving representation of a relationship between parent and child” in post-WWII America (Publishers Weekly, starred review). This is the story of young Liz, her father, and their strained relationship. Dad has been away at WWII for longer than she can remember, and they begin their journey of reconnection through a hunting shirt, cherry pie, tender conversation, and the crow call. This allegorical story shows how, like the birds gathering above, the relationship between the girl and her father is graced with the chance to fly. “The memory of a treasured day spent with a special person will resonate with readers everywhere.” —School Library Journal (starred review) “Beautifully written, the piece reads much like a traditional short story . . . the details of [Ibatoulline’s] renderings gracefully capture a moment in time that was lost. Relevant for families whose parents are returning from war, the text is also ripe for classroom discussion and for advanced readers.” —Kirkus Reviews

From terrorist violence to “mere” complacency with institutionalized harm, the book weds case study to cross-disciplinary theory. It builds upon timely work in the field of narrative criminology and provides a thorough analysis of how stories can promote or inhibit harmful action. Book excerpt: In the early 1970s, two young filmmaking brothers unloaded their camera and recording equipment on the collapsing front porch of a dilapidated manor in East Hampton. The seemingly abandoned, decaying shell of a once-glorious home belonged to Edith Bouvier Beale. She and her daughter Edie Beale were the aunt and first cousin of former First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.Lois Erdmann Wright was one of only a handful of outsiders allowed into Grey Gardens. During the decades before the documentary, Lois and her mother had formed a close, family-like bond with the Bouvier-Beale women, and Lois learned to overlook the destruction and disarray of the home. For many years, the Beales lived alone in the crumbling estate, physically and financially unable to keep the house up to the codes demanded by the local Board of Health.Lois understood the Beale family. The two Edies were outsiders, trying to eke out a reclusive existence among their haughty, East Hampton neighbors. Surrounded by dozens of cats, raccoons, and piles of trash, Lois found acceptance, security, and unconditional love in the company of Grey Gardens' unlikely inhabitants. She never questioned her dear friends' lives, and they never questioned Lois. Much like the Beale ladies, and the mysterious mansion disintegrating around them, Lois held onto her own secrets, including one impossible rumor that connected her to the Bouvier-Beales in a way she never expected, and would never forget.Nearly a half-century later, the worldwide appeal and fascination with Grey Gardens hasn't dampened. The story has been recreated as a Tony Award winning Broadway musical, as well as a feature length film, and a second documentary. Now, Lois Wright, the "Ghost of Grey Gardens," tells the truth embedded in the cult-classic fable. For the first time ever, Lois recounts her ninety years of life, including the perfectly-imperfect years she spend with the Beales. Featuring never before seen personal photos, documents, and letters, and revealing jaw-dropping facts, this book is a must read for any Grey Gardens fan.
