This book was released on 2018-10-24 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Endangered and Threatened Species - Determination of Nine Distinct Population Segments of Loggerhead Sea Turtles as Endangered or Threatened (US Fish and Wildlife Service Regulation) (FWS) (2018 Edition) The Law Library presents the complete text of the Endangered and Threatened Species - Determination of Nine Distinct Population Segments of Loggerhead Sea Turtles as Endangered or Threatened (US Fish and Wildlife Service Regulation) (FWS) (2018 Edition). Updated as of May 29, 2018 We (NMFS and USFWS; also collectively referred to as the Services) have determined that the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta) is composed of nine distinct population segments (DPSs) that constitute "species" that may be listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). In this final rule, we are listing four DPSs as threatened and five as endangered under the ESA. We will propose to designate critical habitat for the two loggerhead sea turtle DPSs occurring within the United States in a future rulemaking. We encourage interested parties to provide any information related to the identification of critical habitat and essential physical or biological features for this species, as well as economic or other relevant impacts of designation of critical habitat, to assist us with this effort. This book contains: - The complete text of the Endangered and Threatened Species - Determination of Nine Distinct Population Segments of Loggerhead Sea Turtles as Endangered or Threatened (US Fish and Wildlife Service Regulation) (FWS) (2018 Edition) - A table of contents with the page number of each section

Offering a fascinating and informative overview of five sea turtle species, the volume discusses sea turtles' feeding habits, preferred nesting areas, and migration routes; examines their status in U.S. waters; and cites examples of conservation measures under way and under consideration.

Book Biological Report on the Designation of Marine Critical Habitat for the Loggerhead Sea Turtle Caretta Caretta

Download or read book Biological Report on the Designation of Marine Critical Habitat for the Loggerhead Sea Turtle Caretta Caretta written by and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report contains a biological assessment of specific areas that may be considered for designation of critical habitat for the threatened Northwest Atlantic Ocean and the endangered North Pacific Ocean Distinct Population Segments (DPSs) of the loggerhead sea turtle (Caretta caretta). The designation of critical habitat was prompted by a 2011 final rule revising the listing of loggerhead sea turtles under the ESA from a single worldwide listing of the species as threatened to nine DPSs, listed as either threatened or endangered. The two DPSs that are the subject of this biological report - the Northwest Atlantic Ocean and North Pacific Ocean - are the only DPSs of loggerheads that occur within U.S. jurisdiction. Although American Samoa, an unincorporated territory of the United States, is located within the general geographical area associated with the South Pacific Ocean DPS, loggerheads are not known to occur there"--Executive summary.

Book The U S Commercial Sea Turtle Landings

Download or read book The U S Commercial Sea Turtle Landings written by W. N. Witzell and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The commercial landings of threatened and endangered species of marine turtles throughout U.S. waters have never been reported in detail. The early commercial sea turtle landings were sporadically collected and were published in a series of U.S. Government fisheries documents. Unfortunately, they have never been collated and summarized into a single data base or document. These are important base-line fisheries data on U.S. threatened and endangered species of sea turtles and provide considerable insight into the sociology and economics of the turtle fishery. Additionally, these data also provide basic biological information, such as species composition, seasonality, and sizes. These factors are necessary for understanding the ecology of these unique reptiles and enable resource managers to formulate sound management and conservation strategies, as mandated by the Endangered Species Act of 1973, and subsequent amendments. In this report, I summarize the commercial U.S. sea turtle landings as reported by the U.S. Fisheries Commission, Bureau of Commercial Fisheries and National Marine Fisheries Service for the continental U.S., Puerto Rico, and Hawaii"--Introduction
