Book Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data

Download or read book Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data written by and published by Amer Society of Civil Engineers. This book was released on 2003 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CI/ASCE Standard 38-02 presents a credible system for classifying the quality of utility location information that is placed in design plans. The Standard addresses issues such as: how utility information can be obtained, what technologies are available to obtain that information; how that information can be conveyed to the information users; who should be responsible for typical collection and depiction tasks; what factors determine which utility quality level attribute to assign to data; and what the relative costs and benefits of the various quality levels are. Used as a reference or as part of a specification, the Standard will assist engineers, project and utility owners, and constructors in developing strategies to reduce risk by improving the reliability of information on existing subsurface utilities in a defined manner.

Book Urban Informatics

  • Author : Wenzhong Shi
  • Publisher : Springer Nature
  • Release : 2021-04-06
  • ISBN : 9811589836
  • Pages : 941 pages

Download or read book Urban Informatics written by Wenzhong Shi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 941 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book is the first to systematically introduce the principles of urban informatics and its application to every aspect of the city that involves its functioning, control, management, and future planning. It introduces new models and tools being developed to understand and implement these technologies that enable cities to function more efficiently – to become ‘smart’ and ‘sustainable’. The smart city has quickly emerged as computers have become ever smaller to the point where they can be embedded into the very fabric of the city, as well as being central to new ways in which the population can communicate and act. When cities are wired in this way, they have the potential to become sentient and responsive, generating massive streams of ‘big’ data in real time as well as providing immense opportunities for extracting new forms of urban data through crowdsourcing. This book offers a comprehensive review of the methods that form the core of urban informatics from various kinds of urban remote sensing to new approaches to machine learning and statistical modelling. It provides a detailed technical introduction to the wide array of tools information scientists need to develop the key urban analytics that are fundamental to learning about the smart city, and it outlines ways in which these tools can be used to inform design and policy so that cities can become more efficient with a greater concern for environment and equity.

Book Feasibility of Mapping and Marking Underground Utilities by State Transportation Departments

Download or read book Feasibility of Mapping and Marking Underground Utilities by State Transportation Departments written by Cesar Quiroga and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A critical factor that contributes to inefficiencies in the management of utility issues in highway projects is the lack of accurate, complete information about utility facilities that might be in conflict with the project. Barriers that transportation agencies must overcome before collecting and storing utility location data include, but are not limited to, liability in connection with data accuracy, visualization of data reliability and accuracy, long-term storage and maintenance of the electronic data, access to the data, and homeland security issues. The objective of the research was to document issues associated with State transportation departments asserting their responsibility for managing utility installations within the highway right-of-way. The research focused on the use of three-dimensional (3D) techniques by State transportation departments. Activities completed to meet this objective included the following: (1) a literature review on the use of 3D technology; (2) outreach to State transportation departments to document business practices and lessons learned from a review of selected case studies; (3) an analysis of strategies, barriers for implementation, and return on investment; and (4) a review of the use of radio frequency identification technology to mark and manage underground utility installations, along with a discussion of benefits and costs. The audience for this report includes State transportation departments, utility owners, one-call notification centers, consultants, and contractors.
