Book excerpt: Malgré leur succès dans le domaine du partage de fichiers, les systèmes P2P sont capables d'évaluer uniquement des requêtes simples basées sur la recherche d'un fichier en utilisant son nom. Récemment, plusieurs travaux de recherche sont effectués afin d'étendre ces systèmes pour qu'ils permettent le partage de données avec une granularité fine (i.e. un attribut atomique) et l'évaluation de requêtes complexes (i.e. requêtes SQL). A cause des caractéristiques des systèmes P2P (e.g. grande-échelle, instabilité et autonomie de nœuds), il n'est pas pratique d'avoir un catalogue global qui contient souvent des informations sur: les schémas, les données et les hôtes des sources de données. L'absence d'un catalogue global rend plus difficiles: (i) la localisation de sources de données en prenant en compte l'hétérogénéité de schémas et (ii) l'optimisation de requêtes. Dans notre thèse, nous proposons une approche pour l'évaluation des requêtes SQL en environnement P2P. Notre approche est fondée sur une ontologie de domaine et sur des formules de similarité pour résoudre l'hétérogénéité sémantique des schémas locaux. Quant à l'hétérogénéité structurelle de ces schémas, elle est résolue grâce à l'extension d'un algorithme de routage de requêtes (i.e. le protocole Chord) par des Indexes de structure. Concernant l'optimisation de requêtes, nous proposons de profiter de la phase de localisation de sources de données pour obtenir toutes les méta-données nécessaires pour générer un plan d'exécution proche de l'optimal. Afin de montrer la faisabilité et la validité de nos propositions, nous effectuons une évaluation des performances et nous discutons les résultats obtenus.

Un de leurs principaux défauts est aussi de plus en plus remarqué: En général, les pairs se connectent sans tenir compte de leur position dans le réseau, ce qui génère du trafic réseau inutile et une utilisation inefficace des ressources. L'objectif de cette thèse est d'améliorer les applications P2P en utilisant l'information sur la localisation réseau des pairs, afin de construire des sur-couches réseaux logiques qui sont respectueuses du réseau sous-jacent. Ces applications P2P basées sur la localisation réseau peuvent distribuer plus efficacement les contenus, avec un impact minimum sur le réseau sous-jacent. Pour atteindre cet objectif, une méthodologie appropriée est adoptée dans notre étude. Nous proposons d'abord une méthode simple pour estimer les topologies réseau d'une façon collaborative, afin que l'information sur la localisation puisse être obtenue par les applications P2P. Ensuite, nous définissons un environnement réaliste pour évaluer l'impact des différents algorithmes sur un réseau à grande échelle comme Internet. Cet environnement inclut un simulateur reconnu, des cartes représentatives d'Internet et des politiques de routage réalistes, ceci pour obtenir des résultats aussi convaincants que possible sur les performances des différents algorithmes. Dans cette thèse, nous étudions comment améliorer les applications P2P pour réduire le trafic sur le réseau sous-jacent, à travers trois exemples concrets d’applications: 1) échange de fichiers comme BitTorrent ; 2) "Vidéo à la demande" déployées sur un réseau de Set-Top-Boxes ; 3) la diffusion de flux télévisuel (P2P IPTV). L'environnement de simulation défini ci-dessus est utilisé pour évaluer et comparer différentes propositions. Ce travail de thèse démontre que la localisation réseau des pairs est utile pour réduire l'impact réseau des applications P2P sur le réseau physique. Les différentes propositions peuvent être implémentées dans les applications P2P pour les rendre plus respectueuses du réseau sous-jacent et meilleures pour la distribution de contenus sur Internet.

It introduces new contributions on several different aspects of the problem, identifying research opportunities and increasing the scope for applications. It also includes an in-depth study of stream mining and a theoretical analysis of proposed methods and algorithms. The first section is concerned with the use of an adaptive sliding window algorithm (ADWIN). Since this has rigorous performance guarantees, using it in place of counters or accumulators, it offers the possibility of extending such guarantees to learning and mining algorithms not initially designed for drifting data. Testing with several methods, including Naïve Bayes, clustering, decision trees and ensemble methods, is discussed as well. The second part of the book describes a formal study of connected acyclic graphs, or 'trees', from the point of view of closure-based mining, presenting efficient algorithms for subtree testing and for mining ordered and unordered frequent closed trees. Lastly, a general methodology to identify closed patterns in a data stream is outlined. This is applied to develop an incremental method, a sliding-window based method, and a method that mines closed trees adaptively from data streams. These are used to introduce classification methods for tree data streams.

Like many multivariate methods, it was not widely used until the advent of electronic computers, but it is now weIl entrenched in virtually every statistical computer package. The central idea of principal component analysis is to reduce the dimen sionality of a data set in which there are a large number of interrelated variables, while retaining as much as possible of the variation present in the data set. This reduction is achieved by transforming to a new set of variables, the principal components, which are uncorrelated, and which are ordered so that the first few retain most of the variation present in all of the original variables. Computation of the principal components reduces to the solution of an eigenvalue-eigenvector problem for a positive-semidefinite symmetrie matrix. Thus, the definition and computation of principal components are straightforward but, as will be seen, this apparently simple technique has a wide variety of different applications, as weIl as a number of different deri vations. Any feelings that principal component analysis is a narrow subject should soon be dispelled by the present book; indeed some quite broad topics which are related to principal component analysis receive no more than a brief mention in the final two chapters.
