Download or read book Lo spazzino written by andrea damiati and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-05-17 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book The New Avant garde in Italy written by John Picchione and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2004-01-01 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The debate on literature and the arts provoked by the Italian neoavant-garde (neoavanguardia) is undoubtedly one of the most animated and controversial the country has witnessed from World War II to the present. Comprising the period between the late 1950s and the late 1960s, the phenomenon of the neoavanguardia involved key writers, critics, and artists, both as insiders - Sanguineti, Balestrini, Guglielmi, Eco, and others - and adversaries such as Pasolini, Calvino, and Moravia. In The New Avant-Garde in Italy - the first book in English to document the movement - John Picchione's objective is twofold: to provide a comprehensive analysis of the theoretical tenets that inform the works of the neoavanguardia and to show how they are applied to the poetic practices of its authors. The neoavanguardia cannot, Picchione argues, be defined as a movement with a unified program expressed in the form of manifestos or shared theoretical principles. It experiences irreconcilable internal conflicts that are explored as a split between two main blocs - one that is tied to the project of modernity, the other to post-modern aesthetic postures. This study suggests that some of the contentious views proposed by the neoavanguardia anticipated a wide range of issues that continue to be significant and pressing to this day.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a remote, poverty-stricken mountain village of Sicily, a baby boy awakens to life. Today that child is an old man. His memories crop up, stone hard and fleeting as birds: of faces, of hunger and beauty, love and wounding, song and weeping, war and peace. In Sancalò, his memoirs emerge in the form of 59 brief chapters. His intimate personal experiences reflect and shed light on his surroundings. He remembers post-War Sicily, the complicated legacy of fascism, centuries-long injustices and prejudices, and the spiritual depth and memorable quirks of simple people. Says the author, “I felt a driving need to reconnect to my past while trying to recreate a part of its beauty.” Some names have been changed. His other books are The Devil’s Scourge. Exorcism in Renaissance Italy (Red Wheel/Weiser, 2002) and Poesie/Poems (AVEditoria, 2018). He is currently completing a study dealing with Jews in Renaissance Italy.
Download or read book Female Cultural Production in Modern Italy written by Sharon Hecker and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-04-13 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the first critical interdisciplinary examination in English of Italian women’s contributions to intellectual, artistic, and cultural production in modern Italy. Examining commonalities and diversities from the country’s Unification to today, the volume provides insight into the challenges that Italian women engaged in cultural production have faced, and the strategies they have deployed in order to achieve their objectives. The essays address a range of issues, from women’s self-identification and public ownership of their professional roles as laborers in the intellectual and cultural realm, to questions about motherhood and financial remuneration, to the role of creative foreign women in Italy. Through critical analysis and direct testimony from new and typically marginalized voices, including an Arab-Italian writer, an Italian-Dominican filmmaker, and a transgender activist, new forms of ongoing struggle emerge that redefine the culturally diverse landscape of female intellectual and creative production in Italy today. The volume rethinks a solely national “Made in Italy” reading of the subject of female intellectual labor, demonstrating instead the wide network of influences and relationships that have existed for Italian women in their professional aspirations.
