Book Little Lessons in Japanese Classic Reprint

Download or read book Little Lessons in Japanese Classic Reprint written by Allan Corstorphin Smith and published by . This book was released on 2015-06-30 with total page 46 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Little Lessons in Japanese The arrangement of these lessons is a Radical Departure. The Method Of Study advocated is equally radical. We shall not here attempt any justification of this, but let the success of those who study it speak for the system. Requests and commands, certainly the most useful phrases in the Japanese language, are not given here. This Little Lesson simply enfilades, as it were, a group of about one hundred verbs. In the Little Lesson on the Gerund, these verbs may be carried by frontal attack, and requests and commands formed with each and all of them ad lib. - a matter of, say, one thousand phrases with the verbs alone. If you study this system with an intelligent Japanese who will simply read the sentences with you, as per instructions, you will make more progress than you could with the most expert teacher who would teach you in the ordinary way. We cannot of course compel the student to follow our methods exactly; all we can say is that if he will follow them for this lesson, and for the lesson on the Gerund, he should be able very shortly to begin to talk, and that is more than students of most systems can do in a year. About our forests and rivers? About food? Just Enough is a book of stories and sketches that give valuable insight into what it is like to live in a sustainable society by describing life in Japan some two hundred years ago, during the late Edo period, when cities and villages faced many of the same environmental challenges we do today and met them beautifully and inventively.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first English translation of the classic Japanese novel that has sold over 2 million copies—a childhood favorite of anime master Hayao Miyazaki (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Howl’s Moving Castle), with an introduction by Neil Gaiman. First published in 1937, Genzaburō Yoshino’s How Do You Live? has long been acknowledged in Japan as a crossover classic for young readers. Academy Award–winning animator Hayao Miyazaki has called it his favorite childhood book and announced plans to emerge from retirement to make it the basis of his final film. How Do You Live? is narrated in two voices. The first belongs to Copper, fifteen, who after the death of his father must confront inevitable and enormous change, including his own betrayal of his best friend. In between episodes of Copper’s emerging story, his uncle writes to him in a journal, sharing knowledge and offering advice on life’s big questions as Copper begins to encounter them. Over the course of the story, Copper, like his namesake Copernicus, looks to the stars, and uses his discoveries about the heavens, earth, and human nature to answer the question of how he will live. This first-ever English-language translation of a Japanese classic about finding one’s place in a world both infinitely large and unimaginably small is perfect for readers of philosophical fiction like The Alchemist and The Little Prince, as well as Miyazaki fans eager to understand one of his most important influences.

Book Japan and Japanese American Relations Classic Reprint

Download or read book Japan and Japanese American Relations Classic Reprint written by George Hubbard Blakeslee and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-01-28 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Japan and Japanese-American Relations Both are young powers in the modern sense. A little over a half century ago the United States did not possess a single foot of undisputed territory on the Pacific Ocean; today it has a greater coastline than any other nation. Less than a half century ago Japan was a weak, feudalized state with a civilization much resembling that of Europe in the middle ages. Its recent progress, the accomplishment in fifty years of the advance which it took Europe five hundred years to make, is probably the most remarkable national achievement in history. SO well did Japan learn its lessons in western civilization that today, in proportion to its resources, it has probably the most efficient governmental organization in the world.
