Toutefois, au fil du temps, j'ai continué à recueillir les renseignements nécessaires pour une mise à jour de la LCOQ, mais uniquement à partir de la chronique « Observations saisonnières » du magazine QuébecOiseaux, qui est la traduction de la chronique similaire publiée dans North American Birds. Autrement dit, la LCOQ est ici à la fois largement amputée mais néanmoins mise à jour jusqu'au 30 novembre 2020. D'où le titre Petite Liste commentée des oiseaux du Québec. L'ouvrage comprend quatre parties : les espèces d'oiseaux dont la présence a été confirmée au Québec (la « liste principale »), ainsi que trois annexes : Espèces non admises, Espèces considérées comme originaires de captivité, Dates records d'arrivée et de départ d'environ 250 espèces.
