Book Ordinary Differential Equations and Linear Algebra

Download or read book Ordinary Differential Equations and Linear Algebra written by Todd Kapitula and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2015-11-17 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ordinary differential equations (ODEs) and linear algebra are foundational postcalculus mathematics courses in the sciences. The goal of this text is to help students master both subject areas in a one-semester course. Linear algebra is developed first, with an eye toward solving linear systems of ODEs. A computer algebra system is used for intermediate calculations (Gaussian elimination, complicated integrals, etc.); however, the text is not tailored toward a particular system. Ordinary Differential Equations and Linear Algebra: A Systems Approach systematically develops the linear algebra needed to solve systems of ODEs and includes over 15 distinct applications of the theory, many of which are not typically seen in a textbook at this level (e.g., lead poisoning, SIR models, digital filters). It emphasizes mathematical modeling and contains group projects at the end of each chapter that allow students to more fully explore the interaction between the modeling of a system, the solution of the model, and the resulting physical description.

Book Linear Algebra and Differential Equations

Download or read book Linear Algebra and Differential Equations written by Alexander Givental and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2001 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material presented in this book corresponds to a semester-long course, ``Linear Algebra and Differential Equations'', taught to sophomore students at UC Berkeley. In contrast with typical undergraduate texts, the book offers a unifying point of view on the subject, namely that linear algebra solves several clearly-posed classification problems about such geometric objects as quadratic forms and linear transformations. This attractive viewpoint on the classical theory agrees well with modern tendencies in advanced mathematics and is shared by many research mathematicians. However, the idea of classification seldom finds its way to basic programs in mathematics, and is usually unfamiliar to undergraduates. To meet the challenge, the book first guides the reader through the entire agenda of linear algebra in the elementary environment of two-dimensional geometry, and prior to spelling out the general idea and employing it in higher dimensions, shows how it works in applications such as linear ODE systems or stability of equilibria. Appropriate as a text for regular junior and honors sophomore level college classes, the book is accessible to high school students familiar with basic calculus, and can also be useful to engineering graduate students.

Book Linear Algebra and Ordinary Differential Equations softcover

Download or read book Linear Algebra and Ordinary Differential Equations softcover written by Alan Jeffrey and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1991-03-03 with total page 1136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, written for undergraduate engineering and applied mathematics students, incorporates a broad coverage of essential standard topics in differential equations with material important to the engineering and applied mathematics fields. Because linear differential equations and systems play an essential role in many applications, the book presents linear algebra using a detailed development of matrix algebra, preceded by a short discussion of the algebra of vectors. New ideas are introduced with carefully chosen illustrative examples, which in turn are reinforced by the problem sets at the end of each section. The problem sets are divided into two parts. The first part contains straightforward problems similar to those in the text that are designed to emphasize key concepts and develop manipulative skills. The second part provides a more difficult group of problems that both extend the text and provide a deeper insight into the subject.

Book Linear Algebra and Linear Operators in Engineering

Download or read book Linear Algebra and Linear Operators in Engineering written by H. Ted Davis and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2000-07-12 with total page 561 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Designed for advanced engineering, physical science, and applied mathematics students, this innovative textbook is an introduction to both the theory and practical application of linear algebra and functional analysis. The book is self-contained, beginning with elementary principles, basic concepts, and definitions. The important theorems of the subject are covered and effective application tools are developed, working up to a thorough treatment of eigenanalysis and the spectral resolution theorem. Building on a fundamental understanding of finite vector spaces, infinite dimensional Hilbert spaces are introduced from analogy. Wherever possible, theorems and definitions from matrix theory are called upon to drive the analogy home. The result is a clear and intuitive segue to functional analysis, culminating in a practical introduction to the functional theory of integral and differential operators. Numerous examples, problems, and illustrations highlight applications from all over engineering and the physical sciences. Also included are several numerical applications, complete with Mathematica solutions and code, giving the student a "hands-on" introduction to numerical analysis. Linear Algebra and Linear Operators in Engineering is ideally suited as the main text of an introductory graduate course, and is a fine instrument for self-study or as a general reference for those applying mathematics. Contains numerous Mathematica examples complete with full code and solutions Provides complete numerical algorithms for solving linear and nonlinear problems Spans elementary notions to the functional theory of linear integral and differential equations Includes over 130 examples, illustrations, and exercises and over 220 problems ranging from basic concepts to challenging applications Presents real-life applications from chemical, mechanical, and electrical engineering and the physical sciences

Book Linear Algebra to Differential Equations

Download or read book Linear Algebra to Differential Equations written by J. Vasundhara Devi and published by Chapman & Hall/CRC. This book was released on 2021 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Linear Algebra to Differential Equations concentrates on the essential topics necessary for all engineering students in general and computer science branch students, in particular. Specifically, the topics dealt will help the reader in applying linear algebra as a tool. The advent of high-speed computers has paved the way for studying large systems of linear equations as well as large systems of linear differential equations. Along with the standard numerical methods, methods that curb the progress of error are given for solving linear systems of equations. The topics of linear algebra and differential equations are linked by Kronecker products and calculus of matrices. These topics are useful in dealing with linear systems of differential equations and matrix differential equations. Differential equations are treated in terms of vector and matrix differential systems, as they naturally arise while formulating practical problems. The essential concepts dealing with the solutions and their stability are briefly presented to motivate the reader towards further investigation. This book caters to the needs of Engineering students in general and in particular, to students of Computer Science & Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Robotics. Further, the book provides a quick and complete overview of linear algebra and introduces linear differential systems, serving the basic requirements of scientists and researchers in applied fields. Book Differential Equations with Mathematica

Download or read book Differential Equations with Mathematica written by Martha L. Abell and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2016-09-19 with total page 882 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Differential Equations with Mathematica, Fourth Edition is a supplementing reference which uses the fundamental concepts of the popular platform to solve (analytically, numerically, and/or graphically) differential equations of interest to students, instructors, and scientists. Mathematica’s diversity makes it particularly well suited to performing calculations encountered when solving many ordinary and partial differential equations. In some cases, Mathematica’s built-in functions can immediately solve a differential equation by providing an explicit, implicit, or numerical solution. In other cases, mathematica can be used to perform the calculations encountered when solving a differential equation. Because one goal of elementary differential equations courses is to introduce students to basic methods and algorithms so that they gain proficiency in them, nearly every topic covered this book introduces basic commands, also including typical examples of their application. A study of differential equations relies on concepts from calculus and linear algebra, so this text also includes discussions of relevant commands useful in those areas. In many cases, seeing a solution graphically is most meaningful, so the book relies heavily on Mathematica’s outstanding graphics capabilities. Demonstrates how to take advantage of the advanced features of Mathematica 10 Introduces the fundamental theory of ordinary and partial differential equations using Mathematica to solve typical problems of interest to students, instructors, scientists, and practitioners in many fields Showcases practical applications and case studies drawn from biology, physics, and engineering
