Book Compact Overhead Line Design

Download or read book Compact Overhead Line Design written by Rob Stephen and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-01-26 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Green Book provides the design engineer with an understanding of the electrical parameters and methods required in designing compact AC and DC lines. Compact AC and DC lines are becoming increasingly necessary due to the limitation of right of way access and the need to upgrade power transfer in existing, narrower line corridors. Another requirement for compact AC lines is the lower impedance permitting increased power flow. For DC power lines, increased power flow can only be realised by increasing the current through the conductors and/or increasing line voltage. In AC it can also be achieved by bundle expansion and phase compaction due to the variation of impedance. The effect of compaction on AC and DC lines is not identical as with the constraints. The Green Book covers the theory relating to the constraints such as corona, audible noise, insulation coordination, electric and magnetic fields and others for both AC and DC lines. In addition to the theory, the Green Book includes actual calculations of electric parameters for different pole (DC) and phase (AC) configurations. Standards applied by various countries are tabulated for easy comparison of practices internationally. Case studies on line compaction designs for both AC and DC are described with relation to pole compaction, pole rearrangement and phase configuration. Voltage upgrading is also treated in this book, and some case studies for both AC and DC are considered.

Book Contact Lines for Electric Railways

Download or read book Contact Lines for Electric Railways written by Friedrich Kiessling and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-01-03 with total page 994 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electric traction is the most favourable type of power supply for electric railways from both an ecological and an economic perspective. In the case of urban mass transit and high-speed trains it is the only possible type of traction. Its reliability largely depends on contact lines, which must operate in all climatic conditions with as high availability and as little maintenance as possible. Extreme demands arise when overhead contact lines are required to provide reliable and safe power transmission to traction vehicles travelling at speeds in excess of 250 km/h. The authors have used their worldwide experience to provide comprehensive descriptions of configuration, mechanical and electrical design, installation, operation and maintenance of contact lines for local and long-distance transportation systems, including high-speed lines. In this book, railway company professionals and manufacturers of contact line systems, students and those embarking on a career in this field will find practical guidance in the planning and implementation of systems, product descriptions, specifications and technical data, including standards and other regulations. Special emphasis is laid on the interaction of the individual components of power supply, especially between contact lines and pantographs. Since large sections of the book are dedicated to system aspects, consultant engineers can also use it as a basis for designing systems as well as interfaces to other subsystems of electric railway engineering. The contents of the book are rounded off by examples of running systems.

Book Design of Nonplanar Microstrip Antennas and Transmission Lines

Download or read book Design of Nonplanar Microstrip Antennas and Transmission Lines written by Kin-Lu Wong and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2004-04-07 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A one-stop reference to the design and analysis of nonplanar microstrip structures. Owing to their conformal capability, nonplanar microstrip antennas and transmission lines have been intensely investigated over the past decade. Yet most of the accumulated research has been too scattered across the literature to be useful to scientists and engineers working on these curved structures. Now, antenna expert Kin-Lu Wong compiles and organizes the latest research results and other cutting-edge developments into an extensive survey of the characteristics of microstrip antennas mounted on canonical nonplanar surfaces. Demonstrating a variety of theoretical techniques and deducing the general characteristics of nonplanar microstrip antennas from calculated results, Wong thoroughly addresses the problems of cylindrical, spherical, and conical structures and gives readers powerful design and optimization tools. Up-to-date topics range from specific applications of spherical and conical microstrip arrays to the curvature effects on the analysis of cylindrical microstrip lines and coplanar waveguides. With 256 illustrations and an exhaustive list of references, Design of Nonplanar Microstrip Antennas and Transmission Lines is an indispensable guide for antenna designers in wireless and personal communications and in radar systems, and an invaluable reference for researchers and students interested in this important technology.
