Book Advances in Lighting Technology

Download or read book Advances in Lighting Technology written by Daniel J. Holt and published by SAE International. This book was released on 2003-01-01 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dark ages of vehicle lighting are coming to an end, with state-of-the-art lighting technologies offering bright ideas to automobile engineers and owners. Advances in Lighting Technology illuminates these possibilities by presenting 40 papers that focus on innovative lighting breakthroughs. Advances in Lighting Technology is an essential resource for anyone involved or interested in vehicle lighting. Daniel J. Holt (Editor-at-Large for SAE's Automotive Engineering International magazine) has divided this publication into two comprehensive sections-Part I focuses on Adaptive Lighting and Part II highlights High-Performance Lighting. Each section features an extensive collection of papers, offering important research, details and graphics for maximum comprehension. Adaptive lighting systems involve numerous features and components, all of which are designed to provide customized lighting for particular situations. For example, some systems feature moveable headlights that are able to follow the curves of a road. Other systems can analyze the darkness surrounding the vehicle and vary the intensity of projected light according to this reading.A key advancement in this field is the high intensity discharge (HID) light, which utilizes xenon gas for enhanced visibility and illumination. The future is bright for vehicle lighting, and Advances in Lighting Technology is an ideal resource, providing the latest information in this exciting field.

Book excerpt: Promoting the design, application and evaluation of visually and electrically effective LED light sources and luminaires for general indoor lighting as well as outdoor and vehicle lighting, this book combines the knowledge of LED lighting technology with human perceptual aspects for lighting scientists and engineers. After an introduction to the human visual system and current radiometry, photometry and color science, the basics of LED chip and phosphor technology are described followed by specific issues of LED radiometry and the optical, thermal and electric modeling of LEDs. This is supplemented by the relevant practical issues of pulsed LEDs, remote phosphor LEDs and the aging of LED light sources. Relevant human visual aspects closely related to LED technology are described in detail for the photopic and the mesopic range of vision, including color rendering, binning, whiteness, Circadian issues, as well as flicker perception, brightness, visual performance, conspicuity and disability glare. The topic of LED luminaires is discussed in a separate chapter, including retrofit LED lamps, LED-based road and street luminaires and LED luminaires for museum and school lighting. Specific sections are devoted to the modularity of LED luminaires, their aging and the planning and evaluation methods of new LED installations. The whole is rounded off by a summary and a look towards future developments.

Book Tech Impact The lights and shadows of technological development

Download or read book Tech Impact The lights and shadows of technological development written by Gianmarco Montanari and published by goWare e Edizioni Guerini e Associati. This book was released on 2020-01-02 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Macrotrend of our present: instructions for use. We live in the age of endless change. Technological innovations are profoundly and irreversibly affecting our everyday life. Progress seems somehow to subvert individual and collective parametres in such a way that often we tend to ask ourselves what we can do for machines more than what they can do for us. In these pages the author shares a participating and curious gaze to the deep changes of our times, with the ongoing tension to draw together the scattered pieces of information left by our uncertain present and to gain new keys to interpretation. From the new technologies of AI and ubiquitous computing to the growing issues of international security , from the so called Fourth Industral Revolution to the new paradigm of the sharing economy, from the role of the technological mammoths in the new world order to the changes in the labour market and the increasing societal inequality: a bunch of burning issues are here addressed both with intellectual commitment and conversational levity, with the aim to foster public debate and awareness and to help present day and future leaders to shape new policies, both at business and governamental level.
