Book Anti pollution Technologies for Vehicles

Download or read book Anti pollution Technologies for Vehicles written by Matthew Rowell and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the past decade significant reductions in new vehicle emissions have been attained as a result of improvements in basic automotive technology. These improvements are a result of improvements in basic engine and exhaust technology; they are not the result of the incorporation of expensive and exotic new equipment. Today, many (but of course not all) gasoline powered vehicles are capable of meeting the California LEV emissions standards. Further reductions in new vehicle emissions can be attained through further refinements of the basic technology of the gasoline engine (and exhaust system). Even under the most pessimistic assumptions, passenger vehicle emissions of three (hydrocarbon, nitrogen oxide, and particulate matter) out of the four major pollutants are likely to fall considerably over the next twenty-five years. Emissions of carbon monoxide are forecast to rise. While the presence of carbon monoxide is a health hazard it has not been of principal concern in the Phoenix area. This is because our summer ozone problem is caused by hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxide emissions and our winter "brown cloud" problem is attributed to particulate matter. Thus, Phoenix's two major air pollution problems are likely to be mitigated substantially by the Federal Tier 2 standards. However, the increases in carbon monoxide emissions may lead to new problems for the Phoenix area

Book Urban Airborne Particulate Matter

Download or read book Urban Airborne Particulate Matter written by Fathi Zereini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-02-16 with total page 663 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the most up-to-date research and information regarding the origin, chemistry, fate and health impacts of airborne particulate matter in urban areas, a topic which has received a great deal of attention in recent years due to documented relationships between exposure and health effects such as asthma. With internationally recognised researchers and academics presenting their work and key concepts and approaches from a variety of disciplines, including environmental and analytical chemistry, biology, toxicology, mineralogy and the geosciences, this book addresses the topic of urban airborne particulate matter in a comprehensive, multidisciplinary manner. Topics and research addressed in the book range from common methodological approaches used to sample and analyse the composition of airborne particulates to our knowledge regarding their potential to impact human health and the various policy approaches taken internationally to regulate particulate matter levels.

Book Ozone Forming Potential of Reformulated Gasoline

Download or read book Ozone Forming Potential of Reformulated Gasoline written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1999-09-23 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Committee on Ozone-Forming Potential for Reformulated Gasoline was asked whether the existing body of scientific and technical information is sufficient to permit a robust evaluation and comparison of the emissions from motor vehicles using different reformulated gasolines based on their ozone-forming potentials and to assess the concomitant impact of that approach on air-quality benefits of the use of oxygenates within the RFG program. As part of its charge, the committee was asked to consider (1) the technical soundness of various approaches for evaluating and comparing the relative ozone-forming potentials of RFG blends, (2) technical aspects of various air-quality issues related to RFG assessment, and (3) the sensitivity of evaluations of the relative ozone-forming potentials to factors related to fuel properties and the variability of vehicle technologies and driving patterns.
