Book Light Emitting Silicon for Microphotonics

Download or read book Light Emitting Silicon for Microphotonics written by Stefano Ossicini and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-11-12 with total page 300 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fascinating insight into the state-of-the-art in silicon microphotonics and on what we can expect in the near future. The book presents an overview of the current understanding of getting light from silicon. It concentrates mainly on low dimensional silicon structures, like quantum dots, wires and wells, but covers also alternative approaches like porous silicon and the doping of silicon with rare-earths. The emphasis is on the experimental and theoretical achievements concerning the optoelectronic properties of confined silicon structures obtained during recent years. Silicon based photonic crystals are in particular considered. An in depth discussion of the route towards a silicon laser is presented.

Book Light Emission from Silicon

Download or read book Light Emission from Silicon written by A. Ferrari and published by Trans Tech Publications Ltd. This book was released on 1997-08-25 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the most recent results concerning the various approaches to obtaining light emission from silicon. This dream of silicon technologists is inspired by the fact that an efficient and stable silicon light emitting device would open the way to the production of monolithic optoelectronic integrated circuits, that were based entirely upon silicon. In fact, some of the main building blocks of optoelectronic devices, such as waveguides and photodetectors have already been developed by using silicon technology. The above possibility would sharply reduce the price of optoelectronic circuits as compared with hybrid ones.

Book From Physics to Devices Light Emissions in Silicon

Download or read book From Physics to Devices Light Emissions in Silicon written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1997-11-14 with total page 369 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its inception in 1966, the series of numbered volumes known as Semiconductors and Semimetals has distinguished itself through the careful selection of well-known authors, editors, and contributors. The"Willardson and Beer"Series, as it is widely known, has succeeded in publishing numerous landmark volumes and chapters. Not only did many of these volumes make an impact at the time of their publication, but they continue to be well-cited years after their original release. Recently, Professor Eicke R. Weber of the University of California at Berkeley joined as a co-editor of the series. Professor Weber, a well-known expert in the field of semiconductor materials, will further contribute to continuing the series' tradition of publishing timely, highly relevant, and long-impacting volumes. Some of the recent volumes, such as Hydrogen in Semiconductors, Imperfections in III/V Materials, Epitaxial Microstructures, High-Speed Heterostructure Devices,Oxygen in Silicon, and others promise indeed that this tradition will be maintained and even expanded.Reflecting the truly interdisciplinary nature of the field that the series covers, the volumes in Semiconductors and Semimetals have been and will continue to be of great interest to physicists, chemists, materials scientists, and device engineers in modern industry.

Book Silicon Light Emitting Diodes and Lasers

Download or read book Silicon Light Emitting Diodes and Lasers written by Motoichi Ohtsu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-07-28 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book focuses on a novel phenomenon named photon breeding. It is applied to realizing light-emitting diodes and lasers made of indirect-transition-type silicon bulk crystals in which the light-emission principle is based on dressed photons. After presenting physical pictures of dressed photons and dressed-photon phonons, the principle of light emission by using dressed-photon phonons is reviewed. A novel phenomenon named photon breeding is also reviewed. Next, the fabrication and operation of light emitting diodes and lasers are described The role of coherent phonons in these devices is discussed. Finally, light-emitting diodes using other relevant crystals are described and other relevant devices are also reviewed.

Book Light Emission from Silicon

Download or read book Light Emission from Silicon written by Jean-Claude Vial and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An important characteristic of the scientific activity surrounding the light emission from silicon is its ability to progress quickly in many different directions and to open new questions as soon as it is tried to answer others. Researchers have now the choice between different and concurrent explanations of the visible light emission. The characterisation of the material and optical properties are more and more advanced. New silicon structures show similar properties. Abinitio calculations are able to handle some aspects of the light emission. The application of porous silicon for electro-optical devices also shows progress, the efficiency of electroluminescence has been enhanced and it can be tuned continuously over the whole visible range, the photoluminesence can be modulated by an external voltage, etc. All these aspects and numerous others are presented in this book.
