Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent developments of experimental techniques in cellular and molecular biology have made it possible to understand the molecular biology of male gametogenesis in greater detail. This book focuses on the description of specialized proteins, which are dominantly and/or specifically expressed in germ cells and localized in spermatozoa. There is an urgent need to classify proteins of spermatogenic cells with a view of their functions, and their applications in the regulation of fertility and in understanding infertility. The understanding of structural properties of male germ cell specific proteins can offer vulnerable points for targeted intervention in testis without generalized effects on stages of spermatogenesis. Besides targeted action in male germ cells, sperm specific proteins and polypeptides may also offer potential application in the development of a contraceptive vaccine.

Download or read book Molecular Diagnostics in Cancer Patients written by Kamla Kant Shukla and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-03-15 with total page 339 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to bring together a broad variety of examples of the role of pharmacogenomics in current drug development, uncovering dynamic concentration-dependent drug responses on biological systems to understand pharmacodynamics responses in human cancer where genetic lesions serve as tumor markers and provide a basis for cancer diagnosis. The book describes methods and protocols applied in molecular diagnostics. It offers pathologists and researchers providing molecular diagnostic services an array of the most recent and readily accessible reference to compare methods and techniques. Highlights include the molecular diagnosis of genetic aberrations by quantitative polymerase reaction (qPCR), sequence-specific oligonucleotide arrays, next-generation sequencing (NGS), CGH arrays-and methodologies directed at the detection of epigenetic events, high-throughput nucleic acid and protein arrays, direct sequencing and FISH-based methodologies, currently used in the diagnosis of solid tumors. The book also includes an innovative line of treatment in relation to the molecular prognosis, diagnosis and pharmacogenomics in the actual practice of clinical findings at molecular levels. The book covers the applications of numerous genetic testing methodologies; in approximately the chronological order of discovery and high-throughput diagnosis using advanced genomic approaches to identify such genes, in the search for novel drug targets and/or key determinants of drug reactions. It also promotes a wider understanding of molecular diagnostics among physicians, medical students, and scientists in academics, industry and corporate world.

Download or read book Thermophilic Microbes in Environmental and Industrial Biotechnology written by Tulasi Satyanarayana and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-25 with total page 951 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existence of life at high temperatures is quiet fascinating. At elevated temperatures, only microorganisms are capable of growth and survival. Many thermophilic microbial genera have been isolated from man-made (washing machines, factory effluents, waste streams and acid mine effluents) and natural (volcanic areas, geothermal areas, terrestrial hot springs, submarine hydrothermal vents, geothermally heated oil reserves and oil wells, sun-heated litter and soils/sediments) thermal habitats throughout the world. Both culture-dependent and culture-independent approaches have been employed for understanding the diversity of microbes in hot environments. Interest in their diversity, ecology, and physiology has increased enormously during the past few decades as indicated by the deliberations in international conferences on extremophiles and thermophiles held every alternate year and papers published in journals such as Extremophiles. Thermophilic moulds and bacteria have been extensively studied in plant biomass bioconversion processes as sources of industrial enzymes and as gene donors. In the development of third generation biofuels such as bioethanol, thermophilic fungal and bacterial enzymes are of particular interest. The book is aimed at bringing together scattered up-to-date information on various aspects of thermophiles such as the diversity of thermophiles and viruses of thermophiles, their potential roles in pollution control and bioremediation, and composting.
Download or read book PHARMACEUTICAL BIOTECHNOLOGY written by Dr. Krishan Saini and published by JEC PUBLICATION. This book was released on with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biotechnology focuses on the safe and methodical use of biological materials and by-products in a wide range of manufacturing applications. The foundations and domain of biotechnology are widely dispersed across many fields, such as pharmaceutical sciences, microbiology, biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, genetics, genomics, genetic engineering, chemistry, and chemical and process engineering. In terms of its conception, structure, enlargement, and elaboration, the present edition of "Pharmaceutical Biotechnology" strictly follows the guidelines laid down by the AICTE syllabus for B. Pharmacy-2000. Immunology and Immunological Preparations; Gene Recombination; Antibiotics; Microbial Transformations; and Enzyme Immobilization make up the bulk of the book. Additional chapters on the "Advent of Biotechnology," "Biosensor Technology," "Bioinformatics and Data Mining," "Regulatory Issues in Biotechnology," and "Safety in Biotechnology" are included to pique students' curiosity and deepen their understanding. A short introductory note, theoretical aspects, graphics, neat, well-labeled diagrams, explanations, discussions, and professional supplements with appropriate examples have been included in each chapter to help pharmacy students in India and elsewhere better understand the relevance of each topic. It is hoped that this work will serve as a useful resource for students engaged in the study of pharmaceutical biotechnology. Researchers, professors, food technologists, factory workers, and grad students interested in "industrial microbiology" will all benefit from this pragmatic exploration of the cutting edge of biotechnology.
