Book excerpt: Winner of a 2018 Catholic Press Association Award: First-Time Author, Spirituality Softcover (First Place) and a 2018 Association of Catholic Publishers Award: Inspirational (Second Place). For more than four-hundred years, Introduction to the Devout Life by Doctor of the Church St. Francis de Sales has been regarded as the essential guide to holiness and loving God. This spiritual classic takes on new life in Lift Up Your Heart, where Rev. John Burns has interpreted ten meditations for the modern reader and distilled them into a ten-day mini-retreat that can easily be completed in the midst of a busy life. This practical book goes right to the heart of helping you kick the habit of floating along on your spiritual journey to start actively pursuing holiness and devotion to God. During the course of the retreat, you'll learn the basics of forming a daily prayer routine, including how to offer yourself to God, meditate on his love, and maintain peace in the face of suffering and clarity in the midst of temptation. The meditations will help you: Adopt gratitude as a daily prayer practice. Examine and reorder your priorities and relationships to better reflect your love for God. Discern between good and evil in your life. Desire to love and serve as Jesus did. In a very real sense, Burns helps you take St. Francis de Sales as your spiritual director for ten days. As you do so, you’ll feel God’s fatherly love and restart your faith life, equipped with the tools to connect with God and live for heaven now.

Book What Your Heart Needs for the Hard Days

Download or read book What Your Heart Needs for the Hard Days written by Holley Gerth and published by Revell. This book was released on 2014-08-26 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this uplifting book, Holley Gerth invites readers to sit down with her to be filled with the strength, peace, and joy that come from God's promises to us. Each of the 52 devotions based on the Psalms will help weary women remember that God is good and we're all in this together. Whether it's a bad hair day or a broken heart, Holley offers hope and encouragement to get us through whatever life brings. Women need that kind of encouragement because we all have hard days--days that make us want to give up, retreat inside ourselves, and drown our sorrows in a pint of ice cream. And while we may crave all sorts of things to ease the pain we feel in our hearts, what we really need is truth. We need to be confident in God's character and his promises. We need to remember--and celebrate--who he made us to be. And we need exactly the kind of encouragement Holley Gerth loves to offer.

Book Building a Eucharistic Pedagogy for the Presbyterian Church of Korea

Download or read book Building a Eucharistic Pedagogy for the Presbyterian Church of Korea written by Hyoung Seop Shin and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-04-29 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on the critical conversations between education, liturgy, sociology, and theology, this book suggests an alternative eucharistic pedagogy for the Presbyterian Church of Korea by reforming eucharistic and curricular practices with attention to students' specific local contexts. This process includes the formulation of the definition of the new eucharistic pedagogy, the reconceptualization of concepts regarding the eucharistic pedagogy, and five steps as pedagogical strategies for a new eucharistic pedagogy for the Presbyterian Church of Korea including pedagogical guidelines for teachers and students. This book will open the door for further educational and liturgical discussions of the work of contextualization in churches around the world. Even though this study investigates a contextual pedagogy limited to the PCK, this task needs attention and study in a larger context beyond the PCK. The gospel is the worldwide truth that cannot be limited to a certain culture but becomes incarnated into each local culture. Therefore, this kind of contextual investigation between the gospel and culture will not be optional, but imperative to all churches.
