Book Modelling Longevity Dynamics for Pensions and Annuity Business

Download or read book Modelling Longevity Dynamics for Pensions and Annuity Business written by Ermanno Pitacco and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-01-29 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mortality improvements, uncertainty in future mortality trends and the relevant impact on life annuities and pension plans constitute important topics in the field of actuarial mathematics and life insurance techniques. In particular, actuarial calculations concerning pensions, life annuities and other living benefits (provided, for example, by long-term care insurance products and whole life sickness covers) are based on survival probabilities which necessarily extend over a long time horizon. In order to avoid underestimation of the related liabilities, the insurance company (or the pension plan) must adopt an appropriate forecast of future mortality. Great attention is currently being devoted to the management of life annuity portfolios, both from a theoretical and a practical point of view, because of the growing importance of annuity benefits paid by private pension schemes. In particular, the progressive shift from defined benefit to defined contribution pension schemes has increased the interest in life annuities with a guaranteed annual amount. This book provides a comprehensive and detailed description of methods for projecting mortality, and an extensive introduction to some important issues concerning longevity risk in the area of life annuities and pension benefits. It relies on research work carried out by the authors, as well as on a wide teaching experience and in CPD (Continuing Professional Development) initiatives. The following topics are dealt with: life annuities in the framework of post-retirement income strategies; the basic mortality model; recent mortality trends that have been experienced; general features of projection models; discussion of stochastic projection models, with numerical illustrations; measuring and managing longevity risk.

Book Retirement Life Insurance

Download or read book Retirement Life Insurance written by Steve Heller and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2017-11-07 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Do your clients have any idea of what they can/should spend in retirement? Do they know what they need to do to optimize their retirement spending? How can you protect a spouse from the drop in social security if a client dies early? Why is it likely that buying insurance or buying a fixed annuity can dramatically increase the level of your client’s spending—even if your customer is already retired? What if you could show your client exactly what the impact would be and at what level they would need to buy to achieve a certain level of spending? How can buying a fixed annuity be a hedge against term life expiration and what level is required? When should your client start taking social security? What can your client spend now and how much can that improve if they purchase insurance or an annuity from you? All these questions and more are answered in this book and in the free software that accompanies this book. The software, though more complex than most end users would care to learn, offers you the opportunity to load in customer financial data and give them results that will calculate various options. The amazing and counter-intuitive part is that it is highly likely that most individuals can see their monthly spending capability go up dramatically by buying insurance and/or buying a fixed annuity and the software enables you to zero in on the desired level. Even though life insurance is an old, established financial product, and annuities are even older, there is one enormous market that has been overlooked: the market for additional retirement funds for a surviving spouse and replacement of Social Security payments that are lost after the death of a spouse. This book explains how to address this market, and includes instructions and a license for software that illustrates how insurance and annuities can increase sustainable spending in retirement. Most people have no idea how much they can really spend in retirement. Many are living frugal lives spending their social security while "saving for a rainy day". They buy life insurance in batches of tens thousands of dollars because it sounds good or what they think they can afford. Almost no one would believe that buying "expensive" life insurance after age 60 actually can free them to spend MUCH more on a monthly basis. Furthermore, no one is looking at an optimum return on the investment based on a certain level of potential spending. Until now. This book, and the accompanying software enable you, the life agent, to input the customer data and come up with a plan for your customer and provide proof that the plan will work for them. The book explains what goes into making these calculations, why they work the way they do and gives various case studies that quite often show that buying term insurance or buying an annuity after retirement can be great investments for them. We think your customers will be convinced. There are detailed instructions as to use of the software (at www.steveheller.org/rhino) that accompanies the book with built in case studies that you can use. But even more importantly, you can input a customer’s data and provide them with options and actually show them the benefits or give them the solutions that they would otherwise not know exist. These solutions will be invaluable to your business and offer you a distinct advantage over competition that are not selling in this manner.

This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annuitization is one asset management strategy for retirees seeking to secure lifetime income. The US annuity marketplace offers a variety of annuity contracts, including single premium annuities, advanced life deferred annuities, variable annuities with lifetime income guarantee riders, and ruin contingent deferred annuities. Advisers seeking to provide guidance to clients in or near retirement can benefit by understanding (1) the arguments both for and against annuitization and (2) how a client’s interests might be best represented in the marketplace. Important annuity contract provisions are highlighted and briefly discussed so the adviser can become more familiar with retirement-planning options.

Book The Calculus of Retirement Income

Download or read book The Calculus of Retirement Income written by Moshe A. Milevsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-03-13 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2006 book introduces and develops the basic actuarial models and underlying pricing of life-contingent pension annuities and life insurance from a unique financial perspective. The ideas and techniques are then applied to the real-world problem of generating sustainable retirement income towards the end of the human life-cycle. The role of lifetime income, longevity insurance, and systematic withdrawal plans are investigated in a parsimonious framework. The underlying technology and terminology of the book are based on continuous-time financial economics by merging analytic laws of mortality with the dynamics of equity markets and interest rates. Nonetheless, the book requires a minimal background in mathematics and emphasizes applications and examples more than proofs and theorems. It can serve as an ideal textbook for an applied course on wealth management and retirement planning in addition to being a reference for quantitatively-inclined financial planners.

Book Retirement Income

Download or read book Retirement Income written by Mark Warshawsky and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2012 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Strategies, products, and public policies that will help a new generation of retirees maximize income and minimize risk. As members of the baby boom generation head into retirement, they face an economic environment that has changed noticeably since their parents retired. Most of these new retirees will not be equipped, as many in the earlier generation were, with private pension plans, early retirement options, and fully paid retiree health benefits in addition to Social Security and Medicare. Today it is increasingly left to retirees themselves to plan how to maximize retirement income and minimize risk. In Retirement Income, Mark Warshawsky and his colleagues describe strategies, products, and public policies that will help a new generation achieve financial security and income growth in retirement. Warshawsky, a noted expert in the field who has worked in both government and private industry, analyzes two insurance vehicles, life annuities and long-term care insurance, and their capacity to protect against the extra costs arising from longevity and disability. He proposes two innovations. The first is a strategy that includes a set percentage withdrawal from a balanced portfolio, which is gradually used to purchase a ladder of life annuities. The second proposal, which includes a description of the potential choices in product design and available tax characteristics, is a product that integrates the immediate life annuity and long-term care insurance. With Retirement Income, Warshawsky offers practical ideas based on the results of empirical investigations and analyses, which can be applied to household decision making by retirees and their financial planners and to the design of insurance products and public policy.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication helps policy makers to better understand annuity products and the guarantees they provide in order to optimise the role that these products can play in financing retirement. Product design is a crucial factor in the potential role of annuity products within the pension system, along with the cost and demand for these products, and the resulting risks that are borne by the annuity providers. Increasingly complex products, however, pose additional challenges concerning consumer protection. Consumers need to be aware of their options and have access to unbiased and comprehensible advice and information about these products.

Book Understanding TIAA CREF

Download or read book Understanding TIAA CREF written by Irving S. Schloss and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2001-03-01 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TIAA-CREF is the largest private pension plan in the world, with more than $260 billion under management, including an estimated 1% of all shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange. And yet, while there is a wealth of information on IRAs, 401(k)s and other investment vehicles, until now there has been little guidance for the millions of TIAA-CREF plan participants and their advisors. The TIAA-CREF Book offers the definitive guide to TIAA-CREF for participants, estate planners, and financial advisors. Simply and clearly--and with a droll sense of humor--the authors explain the often complex legal and financial aspects of how the TIAA-CREF plan works, how the investment choices new participants make can affect the funds available at retirement, what the distribution options are for withdrawing money either before or after retirement, and how to leave the fund as an inheritance. For participants in the accumulation stage of their careers, the authors explain the important differences between fixed income securities (TIAA) and equity securities (CREF), and examine the investment choices for both. They address such important issues as how to allocate contributions, how portable an account really is, and how plans differ from employer to employer. In addition to the valuable primer on estate planning--from how to quantify assets, needs, and income to how the Federal Estate Tax affects TIAA-CREF accounts--the authors explore in detail the distribution options available and help weigh the pros and cons of each choice. Drawing on their extensive work in the field of estate planning, the authors cover the gamut of what it takes to make the most out of a TIAA-CREF plan. TIAA-CREF is a registered trademark of the Teachers Insurance and Annunity Association/College Retirement Equities Fund Corporation.
