Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are many books on Past-life experiences, but rare are the books that explain how it is possible to have them. INSIDE Past-Life Connections does just that. It explains how we are connected to our life experiences, how memories are recalled, and goes on to talk about non-human past-life experiences and when we have past memories that are not necessarily our own. Wonderfully written and simple to understand, author Maren Muter takes us on several journeys showing us how past-life memories may impact our lives here. She also shares more of the story behind the Book of Buried Letters. About the author: Born naked, Maren Muter grew up on the edge of a florescent green rainforest just outside Portland, Oregon. Here she silently explored the worlds within her mind, worlds connected through geometric waves, quantum theories, and an inquisition as to how her life related to what she saw. As part of this play, she wrote her findings and buried them in glass jars from the ages 4 to 17. Not realizing the significance of the letters until forty years later when hundreds of them were unearthed. As a metaphysician, she has studied consciousness, behavior, and psychology for 30 years as an independent consultant. When asked, "What is something that has influenced your life or something that stands out to you?" She says with a smile, "The Story of Cacao and why it is so special. It shows the connections I have seen and experienced throughout my life. It shares such a beautiful message, a message of connection, of life, and how you are enough - just as you are."

Book Spiritual Connection in Daily Life

Download or read book Spiritual Connection in Daily Life written by Lynn Underwood and published by Templeton Foundation Press. This book was released on 2013-05-20 with total page 241 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How often do you find moments of deep peace and satisfaction in your day-to-day life? How often does connection with other people, the divine, or nature make you feel more alive? How often are you touched by a sense of awe-inspiring beauty, compassionate love, or pure joy? For many of us, these kinds of experiences tend to be fleeting and all too rare. Fortunately, new research is suggesting that a regular practice of paying attention to experiences like these can help any of us find them more often and cultivate richer, deeper, and more satisfying lives. In Spiritual Connection in Daily Life, Lynn Underwood introduces her Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES), which is comprised of sixteen simple, multiple-choice questions that invite us to become more attuned tothese extraordinary experiences in ordinary life. The DSES is the definitive set of questions for measuring the experience of spiritual connection and has been used in hundreds of studies, translated into over twenty languages, and used around the world by counselors, therapists, nurses, social workers, clergy from multiple faiths, and business leaders. Spiritual Connection in Daily Life offers a step-by-step guide to using the DSES to improve our abilities to sense the “more than” in the midst of our days. Embraced by people from many different cultures, religious traditions, and professional backgrounds, the DSES doesn’t require any extraordinary experience like hearing divine voices or embarking upon a dramatic religious conversion. Nor does it belabor the exact definition of “spirituality.” Rather, it simply invites us to focus on aspects of our daily lives such as deep peace, sense of inner strength, longing, and compassionate love. The sixteen questions also provide a common, nonpolarizing language for communicating with others about the role of the “more than” in our lives. Adherents of all faith traditions, as well as people with no religious leanings whatsoever, have experienced profound and lasting benefits from having these experiences, including improved health behaviors, better relationships, decreased stress and burnout, and improvements in daily mood. Now all of us can reap these same long-term benefits with just a little bit of self-reflection and Dr. Underwood’s expert guidance.

Book The Costs of Connection

Download or read book The Costs of Connection written by Nick Couldry and published by Stanford University Press. This book was released on 2019-08-20 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Just about any social need is now met with an opportunity to "connect" through digital means. But this convenience is not free—it is purchased with vast amounts of personal data transferred through shadowy backchannels to corporations using it to generate profit. The Costs of Connection uncovers this process, this "data colonialism," and its designs for controlling our lives—our ways of knowing; our means of production; our political participation. Colonialism might seem like a thing of the past, but this book shows that the historic appropriation of land, bodies, and natural resources is mirrored today in this new era of pervasive datafication. Apps, platforms, and smart objects capture and translate our lives into data, and then extract information that is fed into capitalist enterprises and sold back to us. The authors argue that this development foreshadows the creation of a new social order emerging globally—and it must be challenged. Confronting the alarming degree of surveillance already tolerated, they offer a stirring call to decolonize the internet and emancipate our desire for connection.

Book Intangible Life

Download or read book Intangible Life written by A.H. Louie and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-05 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This rare publication continues an exploratory journey in relational biology, a study of biology in terms of the organization of networked connections in living systems. It builds on the author’s two earlier monographs which looked at the epistemology of life and the ontogeny of life. Here the emphasis is on the intangibility of life, that the real nature of living systems is conveyed not by their tangible material basis but by their intangible inherent processes. Relational biology is the approach that hails ‘function dictates structure’; it is mathematics decoded into biological realizations. Therefore, the work begins with a concise introduction to category theory, equiping the reader with the mathematical metalanguage of relation biology. The book is organized around three parts: Part I is a comprehensive study of the most important functor in relational biology, the power set functor. The author lays the set-theoretic foundations of the functorial connections in relational biology, exploring relations, mappings, and set-valued mappings. In Part II, Natural Law receives a new mathematical formulation founded on two axioms: ‘Everything is a set.’ and ‘Every process is a set-valued mapping.’ The reader sees how Metabolism–Repair networks, equipped with set-valued processors, expand their role from models of biological entities to generic models of all natural systems. Part III expounds the various shades of invertibility in general, and the inversion of encoding to decoding in particular. A plethora of mathematical and biological examples illustrate the category-theoretic concepts of equivalence and adjunction. This book's algebraic approach to biological models will appeal to researchers and graduate students in mathematics, biology, and the philosophy of science.
