Could I have ventured to stay at Alexandria, I should probably have seen General Washington, as he was to be in town the next day. He and his family are well, and Miss Custis is going to be married to a Major Lewis, a respectable widower, who is a nephew of Gen. Washington. The clothes were purchased the other day. * * The President has not only issued the spirited orders published in regard to any British Men of War taking men from our armed ships, but, I am told, has displaced Captain Phillips, who gave up his men to Commodore Loring. The General Assembly of Virginia are pursuing steps which directly lead to a civil war; but there is a respectable minority struggling in defence of the General Government, and the Government itself is fully prepared for any thing they can do, resolved, if necessary, to oppose force to force, &c., &c. JAS. IREDELL. SUPREME COURT--FEBRUARY TERM. Judge Iredell sat in the Supreme Court at this term for the last time. The most interesting case decided was that of Sims vs. Irvine. Judge Iredell concurred in the judgment of the Court, but for different reasons, which, with his usual " keen, subtle, logical argumentation," he proceeded to assign in one of his " best and most carefully written opinions."
