D But with all his predilections, all his prejudices, and all his inter ests opposed to Episcopacy, he was compelled by the weight of cv idence, to believe in the divine appointment of three orders of cler. For these acts, he was called to an account by a numerous cir cle of respectable and respected friends in the Congregational Church, in answer to whose inquiries he undertook to give in a se ries of private letters, his reasons for his conduct. But this he soon found, would occupy more time than he should be able to devote to the subject, and he therefore adopted the more expeditious course, of giving them to the public, in a Review of the Tribute to the Pilgrims, &c., which resolution gave rise to a Review, of which the following, so far as it relates to that work, is only a small abridgment.
