Book Letters on Strategy Vol 2 of 2 Classic Reprint

This book was released on 2015-07-10 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Letters on Strategy, Vol. 2 of 2 I will gladly comply with your request to write more about Strategy and its technical branch, although I must confess to being surprised at your objections to my manner of dealing with the science which you say is open to attack from the point of deep and earnest study. Frederick the Great threw off to some extent the bonds which the "scientific" rules of pedants had placed on strategy; and another hard and fast system was ruthlessly destroyed by Napoleon's genius and drastic simplicity, which gave ear to sound reason alone. Only be can become master of an art who practises it under the guidance and example of other masters, and it is from the events which have been handed down to us by history, that I seek this guidance and example. This book was released on 2017-06-22 with total page 436 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Letters on Strategy, Vol. 1 of 2 Varying circumstances, and the uncertainty of the in formation about the enemy, often make it hard even for a good strategist to hold fast to his original resolutions and to carry out the necessary steps for their execution. The Views of the strategist may often become obscured by the cloud of contradictory reports about the enemy, and so what was before perfectly clear to him is no longer so well defined. All this renders it difficult to write well about strategy. Only those who have passed through the mental struggles which form part of its execution can be sure that their ideas upon the art will be just. I gladly wrote to you about tactics, because I had had practical experience and could tell you the results of my own Observation in war and could judge of that of others. In strategy, however, I have had but little experience, for I have had very few opportunities of being present when determinations were come to, and still fewer of expressing my own views on them. A young Irishman from the neighbourhood of K who belongs to one of them, told me that an economical man could save 301. A year after the first outlay. To give you an idea of the cheapness of forage here, I may mention that Captain has con tracted for the supply of his troop with twelve pounds of oats, ten pounds of hay, and eight pounds of straw (the regular cavalry ration) per man at sixpence per day. In Ireland the average is one shilling and sixpence. This frontier was a burrow of sympathisers, and it was close to Philips burgh that Grogan was taken, whose apprehension on the wrong side of the lines made such an out. It pleased my lord I should land first with two footmen, to make haste to Gluckstadt to learn where the King of Denmark was, and he was at Rendsburg, some two days journey off, at a Reichstag, an assembly. That cor responds to our Parliament. My lord the next day landed at Gliickstadt, where I had provided an accommodation for him, though. He intended to have gone for Hamburg, but I was bold to tell him, that m rega1d there were some umbrages, and not only so, but open and actual differences betwixt the king and that town, it might be ill taken if he went thither first before he had attended the king. 80 I left my lord at Gliickstadt, and being come hither to take up 8000 rich dollars upon Mr Burlamach's bills, and fetch Mr Avery our agent here, I return to-morrow to attend my lord again I find that matters are much of the hinges be twixt the King of Denmark and this town. Book Revolutionary Feminist Narratives and Perspectives on the Italian Risorgimento

Download or read book Revolutionary Feminist Narratives and Perspectives on the Italian Risorgimento written by Sharon Worley and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2021-12-14 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study extends from the Neapolitan Revolution of 1799 to the first unification of Italy in 1861, and presents insights into the work of feminist authors who responded to the Italian Risorgimento in their writings, including novels, poetry and non-fiction political analyses. The narratives of these women form a cohesive view of emerging feminism in the nineteenth century in response to the Italian Risorgimento. A number of American and British women who lived in Italy (Emma Hamilton, Margaret Fuller and Elizabeth Barrett Browning), as well as Italian women (Eleonora Fonesca Pimentel and Cristina Belgiojoso), participated directly in the developing events of the Risorgimento revolutions for Italian independence and unification, while British, French and American authors who travelled to Italy, including Mary Shelley, George Sand, Marie d’Agoult (Daniel Stern) and Edith Wharton joined their cause and rallied support for democracy, civic justice and gender equality. These authors promoted gender equality through their feminist narratives and political analyses of the Italian Risorgimento.

This book was released on 2015-07-12 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Selection From the Letters and Despatches of the First Napoleon, Vol. 2 of 3: With Explanatory Notes The principal event of this year was undoubtedly the rupture of the treaty of Amiens - a treaty which had been hailed with such delight on both sides of the Channel, but which, thanks to the restless ambition of Bonaparte, was never more than a truce. Immediately after the rupture the "army of England" was reorganised, six large camps were formed along the coasts of France and Holland, and active preparations were made for the invasion of England. It is still a moot point whether Bonaparte ever really intended to cross the Channel, although he had medals struck in commemoration of the conquest of Great Britain, and had caused a report to be made of the treasures he would be likely to find in Oxford, which ancient seat of learning was to be pillaged as the chief towns of Italy had been pillaged. In making this grand display, he flattered the feeling of antipathy of the French nation against England, who was accused of having broken the treaty; he was furnished with an excuse for asking for more conscripts and for maintaining an enormous army which kept England in a fever of apprehension, and drained her resources.
