Kirby to Governor William Schley (Governor of Georgia, 1835-1837) regarding some unpaid claims from (Major Marcus?) Huson. Kirby says that he has enclosed one of Huson's vouchers and asks the governor for help. Kirby also mentions two of the governor's own receipts that might contain errors. He goes on to tell the governor that the court of inquiry in Frederic (possibly Frederica, Glynn County, Georgia) has decided to first investigate the Florida campaign against the Seminole Indians and postpone discussion of the Creek war until General Thomas S. Jesup and others have returned from Florida. He suggests that the governor might want to attend the session on the Creek war.

Wellborn at the executive office in Milledgeville writes to Georgia Governor William Schley (1835-1837) on June 19, 1836 to update Schley on recent communications and transactions, particularly those related to arms shipments. Wellborn explains that he sent arms to Floyd and Walker counties and will send a shipment to Cherokee County shortly. He tells Schley that he responded to a letter from General Hemphill that pertained to Indians, but Wellborn believes that there is little danger imminent, except to citizens of the lower territory that borders Alabama. Colonel (Charles H.?) Nelson's position is discussed with regard to the end of what he refers to as "the Creek War" and the "difficulties with the Cherokees". Nelson reported to Wellborn that he heard of the ratification of a treaty (possibly the Treaty of New Echota, 1835) in the Forsyth Court House. This letter is related to a later letter tcc582 from Wellborn to Schley.

Wilson calls Schley's attention to the case of Joseph Espey, who received a receipt for money owed to claimants under the provisions of the Treaty of Indian Springs (probably the second Treaty of Indian Springs, February 12, 1825, concluded between a faction of Creek Indians and U.S. commissioners). Lumpkin says that the money had already been paid to the heirs of Espey's father, Thomas, and that Joseph Espey pointed out this error and agreed to send the incorrect receipt back to the governor. Lumpkin asks the governor to send Espey a corrected receipt showing that the claim had already been paid, and he refers Schley to (Alfred?) Cuthbert should he have any further questions about the case.

According to Crawford, approximately 150 volunteers are available for service in the Cherokee Nation or the Upper Creek territory; however, they prefer not to be sent to Florida to fight the Seminoles, especially during the warmer months. Crawford mentions that the Seminole leader Osceola "out-generaled" both Winfield Scott and Duncan L. Clinch. The original enclosure is no longer attached.
