Book Let Me Hear Your Voice

Download or read book Let Me Hear Your Voice written by Catherine Maurice and published by Ballantine Books. This book was released on 1994-07-19 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: She was a beautiful doelike child, with an intense, graceful fragility. In her first year, she picked up words, smiled and laughed, and learned to walk. But then Anne-Marie began to turn inward. And when her little girl lost some of the words she had acquired, cried inconsolably, and showed no interest in anyone around her, Catherine Maurice took her to doctors who gave her a devastating diagnosis: autism. In their desperate struggle to save their daughter, the Maurices plunged into a medical nightmare of false hopes, "miracle cures," and infuriating suggestions that Anne-Marie's autism was somehow their fault. Finally, Anne-Marie was saved by an intensive behavioral therapy. Let Me Hear Your Voice is a mother's illuminating account of how one family triumphed over autism. It is an absolutely unforgettable book, as beautifully written as it is informative. "A vivid and uplifting story . . . Offers new strength to parents who refuse to give up on their autistic children." -- Kirkus Reviews "Outstanding . . . Heartfelt . . . A lifeline to families in similar circumstances." -- Library Journal

Book Let s Hear Their Voices

Download or read book Let s Hear Their Voices written by Iraida H. López and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2019-12-01 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let's Hear Their Voices brings together works by ten distinguished and emerging Cuban American writers of the "second generation"—writers who were born between 1960 and the mid-1980s in the United States to Cuban parents or have a mixed ethnic background. Called "ABCs" (American-Born Cubans) or "AmeriCubans," these writers experiment with different formal approaches and lace their work with Cuban Spanish to give voice to hybrid identities and cultural legacies within the contemporary multicultural United States. An introduction by Iraida H. López identifies key tropes in their poetry, prose, and drama, and provides an overview of Cuban American literature since the 1960s. With both original and previously published pieces by award-winning authors—including President Obama's Second Inaugural Poet, Richard Blanco—the volume makes a welcome contribution to the fields of Latinx and American literature, as well as critical discussions across disciplines about the intersections of latinidad with race, class, gender, and sexuality.

Book How can I Hear the Voice of God

Download or read book How can I Hear the Voice of God written by Mark Craythorn and published by God and Email. This book was released on 2012-03-09 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why a book on listening to the voice of God? Surely it implies that there is a God out there that is talking to us? And if he is talking to us, why is He even interested in talking to us? There is so much pain, hurt and suffering in this world, it can seem that God is often so distant. Mark Craythorn left no stone unturned while patiently and diligently searching for an answer to the question: “Does God Exist”. He obtained the proof that he was looking for; but it was what happened afterwards that surprised him. Subsequent assent that Jesus Christ is the Son of God followed by a number of significant encounters with the Holy Spirit changed his life forever. Mark is passionate about teaching others that God is very active in our lives and communicates to us more than we give him credit for. This book contains answers to the question: "How can I hear the Voice of God". It also contains a study guide: "Forty Days of Hearing God for Yourself". This is Mark's second book; the first is titled ‘God and Email’.

Book You Can Hear the Voice of God

Download or read book You Can Hear the Voice of God written by Steve Sampson and published by Chosen Books. This book was released on 2015-03-10 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When you talk to God, do you ever feel as if you are not getting through? You're not alone. At some point, most believers find themselves grappling with difficult questions like Would God really talk to me personally? and How do I know it's truly God talking, and not my own thoughts? But here's the good news: Hearing God is simpler than you think. It's possible to have a relationship with God that involves both speaking and listening. In fact, it's God's desire; He wants to talk to you. In this revised and expanded edition of a classic work, author and teacher Steve Sampson shows you how to pray not just wishing you'd hear God's voice--but expecting to hear it. Sampson's uncomplicated, practical perspective will help you cultivate the two-way conversation with God you've always longed for. Before long, you'll hear Him speaking into your circumstances and relationships, expressing His love for you and showing you the next steps to take in your life. Don't settle for a one-sided conversation with God. Break through this barrier and develop a sensitive heart that hears--and responds to--God's still, small voice. "With clarity and humor, Steve takes you on a journey to the place of profound simplicity in Christ where hearing Him is as natural as breathing."--Bishop Mark J. Chironna, M.A., Ph.D., Church on the Living Edge, Orlando, Florida

Download or read book Hearing their Voices written by Kay Traille and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2019-12-25 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about what teachers need to know before they teach history to students of color. It is a book about the ‘inside feel’ of these students and what they think and say history is for, based on research in the United States with reflections on the United Kingdom. It gives history teachers a better understanding of why culturally relevant pedagogy, inclusion and issues surrounding diversity are of crucial importance if we are to reach these students. We live in a world where many multicultural students think they have little connection with the histories, traditions and values in which they have grown up, some look toward groups who promise them a sense of belonging and ownership of created histories which clash with and threaten democratic societies. This book begins with the belief that it is important to understand how a subject, history, makes non-White students think and feel about themselves. At its center are assertions made by students of color who think learning history that is rich in aspects they can connect with culturally and personally, is important and necessary in gaining and holding their attention. Then I make suggestions of how we best communicate and set high expectations for these students, how as history teachers we use strategies to better engage these students, and redirect the unengaged. We need to make sure history educators provide necessary and appropriate scaffolding for students of colour to better process what they learn in history lessons, making sure they are engaged in higher-order thinking in an equitable safe environment where they see and know that their diversities are respected and valued.

Book Hearing the Voice of God

Download or read book Hearing the Voice of God written by Mordecai Schreiber and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2013 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In an age when technology is making our world feel increasingly small and far-flung peoples are interacting with each other more regularly than at any other time in history, the common threads running through vastly different civilizations are not only more obvious but more important to our understanding of ourselves as members of the human race. In Hearing the Voice of God: In Search of Prophecy, Mordecai Schreiber explores one of these common threads--the Jewish prophetic tradition. Schreiber examines the roots of the prophetic tradition in Judaism and demonstrates how it has influenced the prophets of later religions, how its tenets have been replicated by major social and political figures of recent centuries, and how it ultimately has the power to define each person's understanding of his or her responsibilities as a member of the human race. This is an important text for anyone who wishes to understand the Jewish prophetic tradition that has informed the development of today's world religions and societal laws.
