Download or read book Let s Get Focused written by Ronald F. Jackson and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2024-08-21 with total page 45 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The public has been disaffected with politics for some time. The ordinary person feels unheard and ignored. Part of this comes from the elevation of politicians to “royalty” status versus public servants. The other part comes from the disengagement and laziness of the public. Political office has become a career, instead of a term of service. Disinformation and lies from special interest groups keep the public uninformed and victims of whatever is the outrage of the day. In Let's Get Focused Ronald F. Jackson addresses eleven constitutional amendments and eleven policy/law changes that will make American society more democratic and fairer to all. Issues such as term limits, voting rights, the second amendment, reproductive rights, and more are addressed, with reasonings for each change. Further, policies and laws that need to be implemented or changed are addressed, such as tax policy, the filibuster, and social media. About the Author Ronald F. Jackson is a retired engineer who spent forty years working in the power industry in design, construction, and startup of a variety of projects both governmental and commercial. He was born in1951 in Atlanta, GA. He came of age with a bird’s eye view of the civil rights era and the leaders that directed it. He observed the promise and progress of a nation beginning to confront its shortcomings with a determination to make progress. He has also observed a pullback in the will to address issues and has written this book to focus attention on significant issues.
Download or read book Let s Get Free written by Paul Butler and published by The New Press. This book was released on 2010-06-08 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Radical ideas for changing the justice system, rooted in the real-life experiences of those in overpoliced communities, from the acclaimed former federal prosecutor and author of Chokehold Paul Butler was an ambitious federal prosecutor, a Harvard Law grad who gave up his corporate law salary to fight the good fight—until one day he was arrested on the street and charged with a crime he didn't commit. In a book Harvard Law professor Charles Ogletree calls “a must-read,” Butler looks at places where ordinary citizens meet the justice system—as jurors, witnesses, and in encounters with the police—and explores what “doing the right thing” means in a corrupt system. No matter how powerless those caught up in the web of the law may feel, there is a chance to regain agency, argues Butler. Through groundbreaking and sometimes controversial methods—jury nullification (voting “not guilty” in drug cases as a form of protest), just saying “no” when the police request your permission to search, and refusing to work inside the system as a snitch or a prosecutor—ordinary people can tip the system towards actual justice. Let’s Get Free is an evocative, compelling look at the steps we can collectively take to reform our broken system.
Download or read book Let s Get Frank written by Robin Brunet and published by Douglas & McIntyre. This book was released on 2018-02-17 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frank Palmer is a legend in the Canadian advertising world. He not only developed Palmer Jarvis, one of the country’s most acclaimed marketing communications agencies (and then became chairman and CEO of DDB Canada after selling Palmer Jarvis to the multinational ad giant), he is also credited with changing the face of Canadian advertising. “He’s the only Western Canadian ad man who went to Toronto and wound up owning the town,” says former employee and now friendly rival Chris Staples. Fellow ad man Bob Bryant elaborates, “What Frank also did that no other agency owner was able to do was become a star. No one else personified a company the way he did. He became the iconic brand of his own business.” Palmer has earned a reputation for obtaining clients at any cost. He has clawed his way to prominence with wit, an uncanny knowledge of what constitutes effective advertising, and a business acumen nothing short of encyclopedic. Having started out as the boy last chosen for the baseball team by his peers, he set his sights on living his life in the role of the chooser—not the one waiting to be chosen. Palmer is a fascinating study in contrasts. Though he always took his role as an employer seriously, at times his private life was a mess. And while his bald head and thick neck give him the look of someone you wouldn’t want to encounter on a dark street, he’s a notorious trickster—be it by placing an octopus under a colleague’s pillow or lacing a friend’s coffee cup with dental anaesthesia. At the same time, Palmer is almost as well known for his philanthropic work as for his business acuity and practical jokes. In this lively biography, Robin Brunet captures the exhilarating experience of being in the presence of such a charismatic and driven man. Brunet’s wealth of interviews with the man himself and those who know him best get to the root of what it means to be Frank Palmer.
