Book Preaching and Teaching from the Old Testament

Download or read book Preaching and Teaching from the Old Testament written by Walter C. Jr. Kaiser and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2003-03-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Viewed as antiquated and remote, the Old Testament is frequently neglected in the preaching and teaching ministry of the church. But contrary to the prevailing attitude, might the Old Testament contain relevant and meaningful application for today? Renowned author and scholar Walter Kaiser shows why the Old Testament deserves equal attention with the New Testament and offers a helpful guide on how preachers and teachers can give it the full attention it deserves. Growing out of his teaching material from the last decade, Preaching and Teaching from the Old Testament demonstrates Kaiser's celebrated straightforward exposition. Offering an apologetic for the Christian use of the Old Testament, the opening chapters deal with the value, problem, and task of preaching from it. Following a discussion of the role of expository preaching, Kaiser provides a practical focus by examining preaching and teaching from the texts of various genres. A final chapter explores the relevance of the Old Testament in speaking to a contemporary audience. Bible teachers, pastors, seminary students, and professors will appreciate Kaiser's practical focus and relevant applications. Additional helps include a glossary and suggested outlines and worksheets for expository preaching.

Download or read book Celebrating the Law written by Hetty Lalleman and published by Authentic Media Inc. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians often see the Old Testament law as out of date and irrelevant now Christ has come. Lalleman rejects this view and makes the case for the ongoing importance of the Law in the Christian life - something to celebrate. Most helpfully Lalleman sets out a model for interpreting Old Testament laws in the context of the whole of the Bible. She interacts with scholarly literature on the subject and provides some basic biblical principles for integrating the whole of God's word in our lives. Lalleman then fleshes out by applying them to three difficult topics in Old Testament law - food laws, the cancellation of debts, and warfare. At the heart of this celebration of the law, she contends, is the wholeness, holiness, and integrity of God himself. Celebrating the Law? shows how God calls us to be his distinctive people displaying the same wholeness, holiness, and integrity as he himself has.

Book A Guide to Old Testament Bible Study

Download or read book A Guide to Old Testament Bible Study written by Helen W. Driscoll and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The material in A Guide to Old Testament Bible Study has been rewritten many times during 46 years of teaching high school students in Mid-City / Crescent City High School. Those who were never before Bible students began to take an interest in God's Word because they saw the purpose running through it. Every year, the Holy Spirit used this material to help some become born-again believers. The study contains two major emphases: the history of early man (although not written as a history book, every bit of history in the Bible is true) and the Messiah (the mission of the Messiah promised in Genesis 3:15 is unfolded and developed throughout this study). This book will strengthen your faith in the Bible as God's Word, and help you to help others. Isaiah 40:8 - "The grass withereth and the flower fadeth, but the Word of our God shall stand forever." Born in Marlowe, Tennessee, Helen Wilson Driscoll graduated magma cum laude from Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee in 1941, with a B.A. in Greek (4 years of study), including three years of Bible study. In 1944, she graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary with the Master of Theology degree (including three years of Bible study and Greek, and two years of Hebrew). She then served on the seminary faculty, teaching Greek for three years. Married to J. Paul Driscoll in 1948, Mrs. Driscoll helped her husband build the Mid-City / Crescent City Baptist Church, where they served for 58 years. In 1956, they founded the Mid-City / Crescent City Baptist High School, where she served in administration and taught high school Bible classes for 46 years. She has authored two other books, Around the World in Fifty Days, and God's Redemptive Plan Revealed in the Old Testament
