Book Lessons Learned in Obscurity

Download or read book Lessons Learned in Obscurity written by Ken Duggan and published by Xulon Press. This book was released on 2008-09 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Lessons Learned in Obscurity" is a journey of one church and the pastor who learned the hard way how to develop a unique and healthy fellowship in today's culture. It is a candid look at the things that worked and those that failed. It will be a handy guide to anyone who is more concerned with being a part of a Christian environment that is more relevant than religious. This book should be required reading for those who are not afraid of "coloring outside the lines" and want to be more effective in reaching a world that is increasingly less interested in traditional church. Ken Duggan is senior pastor of Dallas Bay Baptist Church in Hixson, Tennessee. While leading the church since 1990 the fellowship has grown from the original 8 members to nearly 2,300 today. Ken, and his wife Marilyn, are natives of Tennessee and were approved as church planters for the Southern Baptist Convention. Ken has a bachelors' degree in political science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and spent several years in a secular career before entering seminary and earning his Doctorate of Theology. He is also the writer of "Out of the Box" a weekly web log which looks at life from a creative Christian's perspective at www.kenduggan.net.

As the “culture of the people,” popular culture provides a sense of identity that binds individuals to the greater society and unites the masses on ideals of acceptable forms of behavior. Lessons Learned from Popular Culture offers an informative and entertaining look at the social relevance of popular culture. Focusing on a wide range of topics, including film, television, social media, music, radio, cartoons and comics, books, fashion, celebrities, sports, and virtual reality, Tim Delaney and Tim Madigan demonstrate how popular culture, in contrast to folk or high culture, gives individuals an opportunity to impact, modify, or even change prevailing sentiments and norms of behavior. Whether you’re a fan of The Big Bang Theory or Seinfeld, the Beatles or Beyoncé, Charlie Brown or Superman, there’s something for everyone.

Book Whispers of the Obscure

Download or read book Whispers of the Obscure written by D. J. Peterson and published by D. J. Peterson. This book was released on 2023-12-19 with total page 211 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Whispers of the Obscure," the inaugural entry in the Chronicles of Dingus, weaves a rich tapestry of magic, intrigue, and character development set against the backdrop of the fictional realm of Thang. The narrative follows the adventures of Dingus, a young apprentice alchemist, as he uncovers hidden truths and embraces a destiny larger than he ever imagined. The story begins in the quaint village of Elmbrook, where Dingus, under the tutelage of the wise but eccentric alchemist Shemp, learns the subtle art of potion-making and basic spellwork. Dingus's life takes a dramatic turn when Selbin, a mysterious traveler with a past intertwined with Shemp’s, arrives in the village. Selbin brings tales of a world beyond Elmbrook, filled with ancient relics, forgotten magics, and a powerful group known as The Order. As the story unfolds, Dingus is unwittingly drawn into a larger world of magic and power. He discovers that he possesses latent magical abilities, setting him on a path to uncovering his true potential. Alongside Selbin and Shemp, Dingus embarks on a quest to find a mystical relic, believed to be key in tilting the balance of power in a world dominated by The Order. Throughout their journey, the trio encounters a range of characters, from the enigmatic Brute, a seemingly simple blacksmith with hidden depths, to the members of The Order, who seek to control magic and maintain their grip on the kingdom. The novel masterfully intertwines Dingus’s personal growth with the broader theme of freedom versus control in the world of magic. The climax of the book is set in Apollyon, an ancient magical city now in ruins. Here, Dingus and his companions face the ultimate test of their abilities and convictions. The quest concludes with the discovery of the relic, awakening Dingus's magical powers and setting the stage for future adventures.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I couldn't lose. No matter what I set my mind to, I sunk my teeth in, gave it an alligator death shake and emerged victorious. I got jobs I wanted, achieved goals I set for myself and assumed I had this life thing figured out. Then, in 2010, I embarked on a journey that would prove to me how little I knew. I became the biggest failure I had ever known, or could even imagine. No matter what the pursuit, I simply COULD NOT WIN. My consistent failures drove me into a deep depression and set me on a path that led to losing everything. Possessions, self confidence, self worth, sense of humour and my faith. What began as therapeutic journaling, morphed into an introspective, comedic perspective that helped me claw my way back to reality. What do you do when stuff goes sideways, roll over and wet on yourself or get through it? I got through it...and so will you....
