Download or read book Be Brave in the Scared written by Mary E. Lenaburg and published by Ave Maria Press. This book was released on 2019-05-10 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of a 2020 Excellence in Publishing Award from the Association of Catholic Publishers (third place, spirituality). As a parent, do you struggle with trusting God’s will for your life and for those you love? Are you tired and afraid? In Be Brave in the Scared, Catholic writer Mary Lenaburg shares how the overwhelming demands of caring for her severely disabled daughter ultimately taught her—and can teach you—that trusting in God and accepting his will can lead to profound joy, no matter what challenges you face. Be Brave in the Scared is an uplifting account of human frailty (and stubbornness) surrendered to faith. Lenaburg tells the heart-rending story of how caring for her severely disabled daughter affected her self-image, marriage, family life, and faith. Although she initially struggled to accept God’s will and her own limitations, Lenaburg ultimately learned how to trust God. She found in that trust inexplicable joy, even during the most difficult days of her life. She writes boldly and authentically about challenges we all encounter, such as trials with control, blame, exhaustion, fear, and acceptance. Each chapter concludes with an invitation to write and a place for readers to express their thoughts and feelings. Lenaburg’s extraordinary story affirms that God’s redeeming love never fails and that he is there to help us through all of the challenges we encounter.

Download or read book Simon written by Tyler Mower and published by . This book was released on 2021-10-03 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Follow Simon of Cyrene, he who was compelled to carry Jesus's cross, on his political, social, physical, and spiritual journey leading up to, during, and after his short walk with Christ on the road to Golgotha. From Simon's hometown of Cyrene to his marketing hub in Apollonia, across the Mediterranean Sea to the massive Roman port of Caesarea Maritima and on to Jerusalem be part of Simon's journey of uncertainty, opportunity, and the complexities of the heart. As a husband, father, and leader of a bourgeoning business what will become of Simon, his family, and entrepreneurial legacy when everything comes crashing down as he is pulled from the crowd by Roman soldiers to carry a cross for a stranger? Will he be able to piece together the pieces of his shattered life? How will he react to his personal walk with the Savior of the world? Where this story of Simon came from. I was intrigued by Simon of Cyrene after watching a movie detailing the crucifixion of Jesus. Immediately I sought to learn more about Simon. Information about Simon of Cyrene is scant. He is only mentioned three times in the Bible, all referencing the moment when he was compelled to carry the cross. There is nothing about him before carrying the cross and nothing after it. However, enough puzzle pieces are available that a story emerged in my mind. I could not sit still until it was written. In the process of writing this novel I considered the atonement of Christ in a whole new light. It is my hope that through this fictional story of Simon you too may consider more deeply what Christ's infinite atonement means to you.
Download or read book The Nonviolent Atonement Second Edition written by J. Denny Weaver and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2011-01-26 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A provocative study that cuts to the very heart of Christian thought, The Nonviolent Atonement challenges the traditional, Anselmian understanding of atonement along with the assumption that heavenly justice depends on Christ s passive, innocent submission to violent death at the hands of a cruel God. Instead J. Denny Weaver offers a thoroughly nonviolent paradigm for understanding atonement, grounded in the New Testament and sensitive to the concerns of pacifist, black, feminist, and womanist theology. While many scholars have engaged the subject of violence in atonement theology, Weaver s Nonviolent Atonement is the only book that offers a radically new theory rather than simply refurbishing existing theories. Key features of this revised and updated second edition include new material on Paul and Anselm, expanded discussion on the development of violence in theology, interaction with recent scholarship on atonement, and response to criticisms of Weaver s original work. Praise for the first edition: The best current single volume on reconstructing the theology of atonement. S. Mark Heim in Anglican Theological Review Weaver provides an important contribution to atonement theories by seriously inserting the contemporary concerns of pacifist, feminist, womanist, and black theologians into the centuries-old christological conversation. . . . A provocative but faithful proposal benefiting any student of christology. Religious Studies Review A noteworthy contribution to the literature on the atonement. Weaver provides a useful critique of the history of atonement motifs; he does a fine job of placing Anselm s theology in its historical context; he creatively fuses a singular biblical vision from the earthly narrative of the Gospels and the cosmic perspective of the Apocalypse; and he attempts to relate discussions of the atonement to Christian social ethics. Trinity Journal This is a superb succinct survey and analysis of classical and contemporary theories of the atonement, ideal for students and general readers. . . . A clearly written, passionately expressed introduction to current debates on the atonement. . . . Excellent resource. Reviews in Religion and Theology
