Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Mgr Ndongmo et la Question Bamil k au Cameroun written by Andre Segue and published by African Books Collective. This book was released on 2022-06-06 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book La nouvelle question religieuse

Download or read book La nouvelle question religieuse written by Pauline Côté and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2006 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. In a context of increasing polarization of public opinion about religious questions, how do issues involving religion appear in France, the United States, Belgium, and Canada? Parliamentary commissions, governmental reports, and laws pertaining to Islam and to so-called sects often lead to the promulgation of regulations that reflect the public's anxiety that religious diversity per se is threatening. The purpose of this book is to examine some of the identities, values, images, and myths that are perceived by decision makers and by participants in civil societies when boundaries are drawn between the public and the religious at the place where globalization and universal human rights meet.

Book Politics of Religion in Western Europe

Download or read book Politics of Religion in Western Europe written by François Foret and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-17 with total page 290 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion is becoming increasingly important to the study of political science and to re-examine key concepts, such as democracy, securitization, foreign policy analysis, and international relations. The secularization of Europe is often understood according to the concept of ‘multiple modernities’—the idea that there may be several roads to modernity, which do not all mean the eradication of religion. This framework provides support for the view that different traditions, societies and groups can come to terms with the components of modernity (capitalism, democracy, human rights, science and reason) while keeping in touch with their religious background, faith and practice. Contributors examine the interaction between EU-integration processes and Western European countries, such as Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Austria, Scandinavia, Italy, and the UK, and shine fresh light on the economic and cultural contexts brought about by relationships between politics and religion, including immigrant religions and new religious movements. This volume combines theoretical perspectives from political sociology and international relations to consider the role of religion as a source of power, identity and ethics in institutions and societies. Politics of Religion in Western Europe will be of interest to scholars of politics, religion, the European Union and political sociology.

Book Sociologie Et Religions

  • Pages : 268 pages

Download or read book Sociologie Et Religions written by Liliane Voyé and published by Leuven University Press. This book was released on 1999 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What are the relations between sociology and the different religions--Christianity with its various branches, Judaism, Islam, Oriental religions, sects and New Religious Movements? That is the question which this work, conceived on the occasion of the XXVth Conference of the International Society for the Sociology of Religion/Société Internationale de Sociologie des Religions (SISR), wishes to clarify. The book retraces the varied and troubled history of these relations and also reveals how in opening up its research to other religions besides the Christian, sociology is forced to redefine the very object of its field of study. What is the religious? This question, which until recently was considered impertinent, informs this book throughout. If confronts the necessity of rethinking theories and methodological approaches which, constructed in the context of 19th and early 20th century Western Europe, prove to be rather inadequate for encompassing contemporary religious phenomena and religious manifestations in other contexts. To these new theoretical and methodological demands is added, for the sociologist, a deontological imperative, which takes on all the more importance today as the religious provokes passionate social debate.

Book State Responses to Minority Religions

Download or read book State Responses to Minority Religions written by David M. Kirkham and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-05-15 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The response of states to demands for free exercise of religion or belief varies greatly across the world. In some places, religions come as close as imaginable to autonomous existences with little interference from government. In other cases religion finds itself grinding out a meagre living, if at all, under the jealously watchful eye of the state. This book provides a legal and normative overview of the variety of responses to minority religions available to states. Exploring case studies ranging from Islamic regions such as Indonesia, Pakistan, and the wider Middle East, to Western Europe, Eastern Europe, China, Russia, Canada, and the Baltics, contributors include international scholars and experts in law, sociology, religious studies, and political science. This book offers invaluable perspectives on how minority religions are currently being received, reviewed, challenged, or ignored in different parts of the world.

Book Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights

Download or read book Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights written by Jean-François Renucci and published by Council of Europe. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 116 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights guarantees freedom of thought, conscience and religion. The protection it affords is of such significance that the judges of the European Court of Human Rights regard it as one of the cornerstones of d'mocratic society. The freedoms Article 9 guarantees have two essential aspects: internal, covering the freedom to hold convictions and beliefs, and external, covering the freedom to manifest one's convictions and beliefs. The first of these freedoms is absolute, the second relative, but in neither case can their importance be undervalued.

Book L Europe des religions

Download or read book L Europe des religions written by Richard Friedli and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2004 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Law Religion Constitution written by W. Cole Durham and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-29 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is the place assigned to religion in the constitutions of contemporary States? What role is religion expected to perform in the fields that are the object of constitutional regulation? Is separation of religion and politics a necessary precondition for democracy and the rule of law? These questions are addressed in this book through an analysis of the constitutional texts that are in force in different parts of the world. Constitutions are at the centre of almost all contemporary legal systems and provide the principles and values that inspire the action of the national law-makers. After a discussion of some topics that are central to the constitutional regulation of religion, the book considers a number of national systems covering countries with a variety of religious and cultural backgrounds. The final section of the book is devoted to the discussion of the constitutional regulation of some particularly controversial issues, such as religious education, the relation between freedom of speech and freedom of religion, abortion, and freedom of conscience.

The first section surveys the Maghrib as a whole; the second focuses on individual countries of the Maghrib; and the third explores theoretical issues and case studies. Cutting across chronological categories, the book encompasses historiographical writing dealing with all eras, from the ancient Maghrib to the contemporary period.
